CONCERNED: What is you Kitchen Aid Dishwasher Repair Experience?

I decided upon the KUDE70 panel ready dishwasher after bringing my dishes to try them out, They would not fit easily into Miele or Bosch. A friend just told me about her KA dishwasher from hell - she bought it about 7 years ago. After about 6 months things started to go wrong and Kitchen Aid was no help. Computer replaced three times, door that opens mid cycle and crashes down if not held up, leaking causing her to have to replace her wet kickplate 2 or 3 times, etc. To avoid another $150 service call she now has it pulled slightly from the counter so she can clamp it shut. About 2 or 3 years ago she warned a friend who ended up purchasing it anyway and her friend is now experiencing similar problems. Both bought the top of the line at the time - paying around $1200. I looked on the consumer compaint website and saw others with similar complaints - many saying they thought they just had a lemon until they read the posts on that website. This is making me leary about my purchase but I have not seen complaints like this on Garden Web. Does anyone know if these problems have been fixed? Is the KUDE series too new to tell? Are you problem free?

I've had a top-of-the-line KA DW (S model) for over 7 years and no problems at all except the door gasket seal came a little loose about a year ago and I had to reattach it with silicone - no big deal. The DW cleans and dries well and is very quiet. I have no idea about the current models but like any brand I'm sure there are problems with some units.

I have had my KA DW for 5 years now and not one problem. Had the one before that for the entire time we were in that home (5 years) and no problems there either. Nice and quiet and does a great job every time. Not to minimize the bad experiences of others, but every KA appliance I've ever had has been fantastic and very reliable.

Just bought a DW So new just installed yesterday. I have not ran my first load, maybe tomorrow. But I just did tons of research. I looked at KA, Bosh, Miele. I ruled out KA due to info on website kitchenaidfires.com Apparently per website fires not limited to KA but lots of stuff made by Whirlpool, no true link proven yet. after more research, just tossed out the KA, and all whirlpool stuff based on fire risk alone. Bosh was my 2nd choice, Miele 1st. Bosh won due to price/cost Miele just not in my budget. Just got the Bosh SHX7ER55UC. Hope I'm happy, but in the end just a matter of getting something that you like, is in budget and if it breaks hope its affordable to fix. Oh, and for the sales stuff I got 10% instant rebate offered by Bosh. I think that sale goes to end of April, and Sears they offered me 25% discount when I told sales person I was going to leave, but would consider buying soon. Presented me a card with well..if you come back to me I will get you an extra 25% off that DW. (I was looking at a Kenmore made by Bosh( I was told that it would be discontinued and no longer available once they are out of stock.).

LemiShine is NOT rinse aid. It's a concentrated citric acid powder intended for cleaning calcium and hard water deposits from glassware and the dishwasher interior. As weissman says, all liquid rinse aids are pretty much the same, other than one may work better under whatever may be the specific water conditions at any particular location. Too high a dose of any rinse agent can cause excess foaming during the final rinse when it's dispensed. More likely, the film is due to the detergent your SIL is using, and/or too high or too low a dose of said detergent.

Our KitchenAid dishwasher had been leaking water that was not visible to us. I thought something was odd when I cleaned the filter, I felt a familiar electric tingle as I touched the metal part of the interior. We had a Pergo floating floor which became saturated. The tingle was water leaking to the AC voltage to the dishwasher. I don't know if it could have killed me or not under the right circumstances. Out Pergo floor was ruined and had to be replaced. The repair insurer, AIG, attempted to fix the machine 3 times. They finally gave up and gave us a few hundred dollars to junk the machine. As far as I am concerned, both AiG and KitchenAid are both worthless. It costed me a new machine and several thousand dollars to replace the Pergo floor.

Purple, you probably can fix your machine for a small expense. *The door counterbalance can be repaired with part #8194001. See the link for further discussion. The repair parts should be around $20. *The water feed tube in held in place with stainless steel clips fitted to the tub ceiling. You'll want to remove the cutlery trays, adjust the upper rack to its lower position for clearance, then you can reach up into the tub and firmly press the feed tube into the clips. The clips are to the left & right of the sprayer. If the clips don't hold the plastic tube securely, gently bend them inward. *What kind of detergent are you using? The new non phosphate stuff causes all sorts of trouble. Finish Powerball or Quantum tablets give really good results. Try them. Make sure you are using rinse aid as well. Selecting the high temperature option improves results with the new detergents. Here is a link that might be useful: Door link repair

We have had a KUDK03 for a little over a year and have no complaints (knock on wood). The house we moved from had a superba (I think it was called) that worked fine for the 15 years we lived there, requiring only minor service to replace worn out spray arm couplings. Good luck!

We also had a KA dw, it was 6 years old before I got rid of it.
We too, had the door gasket come off when opening the door and it leaked a couple of times. The final straw was, we, after many detergent changes, had to start washing (mostly glasses) because it had braille all over them = gross!

I've only had my KUDE60 since July of last year. So far so good. Course the thing could go south on us tomorrow and that's why I bought Lowe's 4 yr extended warranty that starts after the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty. KA dishwashers have a good reputaion. Their ovens...not so much!
