KitchenAid dishwasher won't mix detergent with water
Comments (21)After the tub fills, I can put my ear up to the door and hear a thumping noise for about 10-20 seconds, then nothing for about 30 minutes, then a drain, then it repeats. When I open the door mid-cycle I do not see any water being sprayed about, although when I put silverware with food on it in there it gets wet enough to clump up a bit. I placed bowls face-up and level in both racks to test water distribution. Water did get to the bowls, but neither one filled up much more than 1/4 way. Also, follow-up on the water temperature: I was able to get the HOA to increase it to 118ð at the faucet, and used the Hi-Temp and Sani-Rinse wash options to get it up to 121ð in the tub (see link below, note that I did test with the probe not touching the heating element before snapping the photo). So I think I can rule temperature out as the primary issue. Here is a link that might be useful: Photo of water temperature at 121°...See MoreCosmetic defect 2014 Kitchen Aid knob area? Comments (17)Looks like at least one other person had this problem - do a Ctrl-F and search for "peeling" on this page: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/kit_stoves.html?page=2 However, that's all I could find. I know that a lot of people probably won't complain about cosmetic issues, but still, since this is affecting ranges from a few years ago at least, I would expect to find more complaints out there if this were a common problem. Make sure you aren't using very tall pots on the back burners. I have seen issues with this before, but it usually manifests itself in electronics problems with the oven control. That said, I can easily imagine how it might lead to peeling problems like this. Don't misinterpret me here, I'm not saying that this is necessarily happening due to user error. Just trying to come up with ideas and things to check. Looking up the part number, it looks like the current available part has replaced several other part numbers over the past few years, indicating that multiple revisions were made to the part. It's possible that the quality of the part has improved since you got your range and that the problem would not reoccur if you replaced it. It sounds like you've been dealing directly with the warranty company up until this point? If so, what I'd recommend is giving Kitchenaid a call directly, describe your problem, and politely, but firmly, make the case that even though it's a cosmetic issue, there isn't really a probable way this kind of damage could have been your fault (unlike a scratch or dent or something). And, since it's a basic customer expectation that an appliance that's been used and cared for properly should look good for years, they really should help you out with the cost of the replacement panel. Even if they don't help you, at a bare minimum this will cause them to log your problem. If lots of other people have the same issue, this could lead to them coming up with a fix if they haven't already....See MoreNew Dishwasher: KitchenAid vs Bosch
Comments (46)Just to add a data point, I will never buy KA again. Two years ago, KA actually bought back my top-of-the-line dw at full price because the board kept fritzing out and they couldn't replace it. So, because KA did the right thing, I bought another top-model KA (KDTM404) because I'm naive like that. After one year, the new model stopped cleaning dishes. It's out of mechanical warranty by this time and, not wanting to endure any more of KA's "customer service," I and my engineer dad embarked upon repairs. We narrowed the problem down to the pump assembly and purchased another (over $200) to replace it. Get the dw apart and, surprise, the assembly doesn't fit. It's identical to the old assembly, but something is off. I disassemble the old assembly and discover that the metal impeller in the old pump has shredded itself. So we frankensteined the old assembly to the pump from the new assembly and after a weekend's worth of labor the dw now works again, who knows for how long. None of this answers the question of why a pump in a year-old, very expensive dishwasher would spontaneously self-destruct. No, I do not place auto parts, road gravel, or shrapnel in the dw. It also doesn't answer why KA can't make parts correctly. So no more KA. Ever....See MoreWood Flooring Help With Leaky Kitchen Aid Dishwasher
Comments (4)We had some water damage to the kitchen’s hardwood floors from a window left open during a torrential rain storm. Our floor is solid red oak, not an engineered product. Time of year was autumn, and as you say, dry air set in pretty shortly. It took about 3 weeks for the cupping to go away. The floor looked like nothing had happened. What is interesting is we have a den that is about a foot below grade. Building Code in our area does not permit hardwood flooring below grade, but does permit engineered wood flooring below grade. So our below-grade den has engineered wood flooring. I had assumed the Code requirement is because engineered wood flooring could handle a flood or water damage better than hardwood flooring....See Morelolog72
