I use MasterCook...it prints and emails.

I just store recipes in a word program....It doesn't translate into calories and fat grams....but I think I'd rather not know.
I can copy, paste, email, save print and about anything else you could imagine.

I just type them up in e-mail, to check the spelling, then Copy & Paste to Notepad and Save them in my Recipe folders... Notepad files are plain text files that can be read on any computer... So, if you like you can just Attach them to your e-mail, if not just Copy & Paste... The best part of using Notepad is that you can use the Windows Search to find recipes by name or use the Text search and find any ingredient, word or phrase you're looking for in every recipe... And, if you have a Windows Machine it's FREE!

As for privacy, get yourself a SanDiskCrusier/Flash Drive/Thumb Drive or whatever and keep your recipes on there... You can pick up an 8 GB SanDisk for under 20 bucks, a lot less on sale... I have over 400 recipes and they only take up a little under 5 MB.

I had no idea what Notepad is for Rita. I'll have to start experimenting.

Since I'm using an older Office program, when someone sends me a word document in a 2010 format, with the "x" at the end, I can't open it.

I wonder if Notepad would eliminate that.

Notepad is a very old Windows accessory. Since Windows 1.0 in 1985. Just search for Windows accessories and you'll see it.

With Word, you can import pictures into documents.

jasdip, go the the Computer Forum and ask somesone to recommend a free utility to convert .docx.

Hi, Someone told me about "myrecipes.com so I emailed to ask if the entered recipes could be kept private. Here is their reply:

"If you enter personal recipes in your account, you can mark them Public or Private. Also, your account is password protected. So recipes you save from our site--and your own personal recipes--cannot be touched by anyone else.

Have any of you tried this site? One requirement is that if my computer crashes I won't lose everything (Yes that happened about 15 years ago and I still have nightmares)

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am in my 70's and can work a computer ok, but cannot make it dance and jump, so I want to keep it simple.

Most all recipe programs I've ever tried let you print them. I can't think of one that didn't. I keep mine in a variety of places. Started coordinating them some years ago but never kept up on them and still have a lot of "to try" recipes.

Jasdip, Notepad will not open any Word Document. Abiword will open many - it's free. OpenOffice will open many and is also free. There's also the (also free) Word Viewer. And you can also ask the sender to save it in the Word format you can open, or better yet in .RTF Rich Text Format which is more universal.

I use Google Docs. I love that I can access it from anywhere not just my home computer.

It also lets me to cut and paste, import, create multiple recipe files (ie appetizers, breads, desserts etc) it handles pictures, you can email it and it's free!

Another Google docs user here....its easy to just cut and paste a recipe into it, and I can access my recipes from any device available.

Comes in very handy when In a casual "Best Bloody Mary" recipe showdown at brunch, away from home.

I just copy and paste into a Word document, then save them in a folder called Recipes. If I were more organized I would create categories for them. They are easy to print or attach to an email.

I've got to look into Google docs. Makes sense.

A third recommendation for Google Docs. Free, available anywhere (home, work, smartphone) and if you're a total nerd, you can use the spreadsheet function with formulas to scale recipes. You can easily import and export files from Word, or you can mark the recipe as public and Google Docs will give you a link to share with others.
