If the files on the Maxtor were put there by a Backup utility then they can only be Restored by the same utility. As Mikie said, this is doable but involved. Import / Export is normally the easiest, 'assuming' your email client supports that, otherwise you should be able to cut and paste. With the Maxtor on the XP machine it becomes the Destination Drive for the Export or Cut files. Once that is done, hook it to the Vista machine and it becomes the Source Drive for the info. right you can only have one antivirus program on the pc at one time, you can have multiples of the malware programs that you run the scans manually with they are not running all the time so would not conflict. here are my instructions (I now just keep them in a document) McAfee removal directions these are the full directions for Mcafee removal, I used this exact procedure and it went well and have since shared it with others for their removal. be sure you use the mcafee removal tool after you have removed it from add remove programs or much will be left behind. First turn off Mcafee at the icon in the systray. I had to go into msconfig and turn off all mcafee items from startup prior to trying to uninstall, just turning them off did not work it would say the program was still running. So if you run into this when going to add remove programs try doing that. I then removed everything using add remove programs, leaving Security center till last. Then used the removal tool, after that I went to Program Files and deleted all mcafee files. Also set Windows explorer to show all hidden files and folders and deleted the mcafee folders. I found these instructions on how to do this on the mcafee forums. 1. Uninstall all mcafee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel". 2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported mcafee consumer products using the mcafee Consumer Products removal tool (MCPR.exe). Ravencajun, Last night I did another scan, It was very slow. I use Charter's High speed internet Security Suiet. It comes with my internet service. This trojan is not listed in their definitions. To be honest I have run into it previously and thought if they didn't do anything with it, it must not be serious. It was the email that allerted me to a possible connection. Oh yeah vista is almost as outdated as xp. You can still find a lot of new ones with windows 7 but the newest will have windows 8 on them. As to transfer of files I too would not let BB touch my computers. It is not difficult to transfer files, pictures, etc. You can plug in a thumb flash drive into the old pc select the files or folders you want to copy to the new one then drag to the flash drive icon or right click on the selected files and select the flash drive to copy to. Windows 7 has a built in feature for doing this easily, you will need to install it to the xp machine but it is pretty easy.
