Need Kitchen Design Help!

We are getting ready to gut our kitchen and design a more functional plan. The kitchen is rather narrow and now has a peninsula that cuts the room in half and backs up to a kitchen table. The space is too cramped with all the stools and chairs! In our new layout we would have a large island with counter seating for at least 5 that runs the long-way of the room and get rid of the kitchen table. Is this a big mistake to remove the table? We have a formal dining room that connects to the kitchen that we could use for table seating when needed. We have 2 children and everyone always seems to gravitate to the counter seating. I'm just worried that removing the table will be a design/ re-sale mistake. We will be using a single piece of granite for the 4' x 10' island. I just need my nerves calmed about the table issue. Thanks in advance for your advice!
