My wife bought a Calphalon set few years ago. She loves them. A few days ago, I fumbled the lid and it dropped to the tile floor. The glass survived, but it separated from the stainless steel rim. If you look at it, you'll see that the rim encircles and encloses the glass portion, so that the glass cannot pop out of the steel rim -- unless you drop it on a tile floor, apparently. It was also apparent that no amount of forcing was going to squeeze the glass back into the rim. But if you know the secret, it's an easy fix, with no forcing required: 1) Put the glass in the freezer for a few hours. 2) Heat the rim. I just waved it over a gas stovetop burner for about 30 seconds. 3) Now, quickly, lay the rim on a hard surface, and drop the frigid glass into it. With the rim expanded, and the glass contracted, they fit together easily. The cold glass will cool the rim almost instantaneously, and they're wedded together once again. Apparently this is not a common problem -- I found no references to it via a Google search -- and replacement lids are available, but this is a good trick to know. I suspect this will work for all such lids, but have only tested it on our Calphalon.

For my smaller, every day stainless steel cookware drawer, I use a 28" wide x about 12" high x 23" deep drawers for my pots/pans. I don't have a current photo, but try to envision the following description of this drawer moving left to right, starting in the top/back left corner of the drawer. I line my drawers with the cushy/spongy liner bought from Wal Mart so nothing will slide around inside the drawers. This is important for storing lids. Towards the very back left corner of the drawer, I have my largest fry pan of about 16" on the bottom with 2 or 3 smaller fry pans nested inside it. I store the largest fry pan lid, about 16" or so and turn it upside down inside the top, smallest nested fry pan. The other nested pan lids are placed at an angle in the front of the drawer, leaning towards the front slab. I put the smallest lid inside the drawer first, then graduate the next size up leaning against the smaller lid, until I have even the 12" lid leaning next. I also put any pot lids in this stack, too. ALL of the lids have hard, raised handles on the top of the lid. ALSO, I have even angled the largest lid against these other lids, too, there is that much room. Since I have the deep drawer, there is plent of room to turn the largest lid upside down and still close the drawer, so this is the preferred method. Sometimes a teen will store the largest lid like all of the other lids. Either way still works. On the right back side of the drawer, I have a deep 8 qt. post, stored in the same drawer with a colander inside it. I have colander from another pot nested in this pot. In the front of that pot, towards the right front of the same drawer, I have my 4 qt pot with the 2 qt. pot nested inside it. All in all, in this modest sized drawer, all of this gets stored and the pot lids do not move around at all. I don't have to have any special racks or anything. If you cannot envision this, I will try to post a photo. I am working on finishing my drawer glaze, so I don't have fronts on these drawers yet. Hope this helps.

I've seen people on this forum mention the dividers from Lee Valley. This style is for dividing flatware,etc, however they've got steel barbed channel as well, for dividing larger drawers into sections. I've included a link. Here is a link that might be useful: Lee Valley Dividers

You read my mind with your last paragraph. A lot of people really prefer to store their lids with the pots. I've read up quite a bit on all the different options. One of my favorites is actually the company Glideware. They were sold recently to Rev-A-Shelf, but they have some nice options for organizing pans and lids including a turntable option where you could hang the pots and put the lids on the bottom rack. You might check out Glideware's other options, too, which include some retracting racks that you can use for either pots or lids depending on how you hang things. IKEA also has some lid storage accessories that you can possibly put into your existing cabinetry. Otherwise if you have a drawer the correct size, you can just stack them upright in the drawer. Many people find that all the interior organizational accessories end up taking up a lot of space, so if your kitchen is on the smaller side, it turns out usually to be better to organize your items without the organizational accessories in the way.
