American Standard Accuclean and HVAC system
Comments (1)There is a lot of fancy filter systems out there. I have cats, two dogs, and a large bird, lots of dust and hair. I made sure on my ac unit that i have a good fit on my air filters, and i use standard 1" filters. But i made large slide out filters so i do not move more than 200 CFM of air per 1 sq.' of filter area. then i use a filter spray and it does a great job of catching the dirt, hair, and what ever. In the summer months i buy my filters by the case and change them eaery two weeks. If you need to change them every week, BUT USE THE SPRAY. http://www.smithfilter.com/index.html When you go here, click on product, and then miscellaneous items.. Comments (9)I'll focus on the HVAC side since I don't know much about direct vent hot water tanks. The quote provides enough information about what they plan to do which gives me a good feeling about this installer. However since you are providing the equipment, the quote is high in my opinion. Sounds like they are still quoting the job as if they provided it and marked it up. I think it can come down at least $5k. Who is providing high voltage power to these units, or is this an additional cost paid to another contractor? Also to clarify, will there be multiple returns on the first floor as well or one central return in the living room? I would clarify with the dealer about the ductwork system. By the quote it sounds like it is all hard metal, with no flex duct even in the attic where it is common. If this is the case, great. This could account for why the quote is on the higher end. I would strongly consider upgrading to the 15 SEER condensers if the unit price increase is not more than a couple hundred per unit. They should be quieter and are overall nicer units in my opinion even if they have the same cabinet. Another upgrade to look into is a high efficiency media filter for each unit. They typically get replaced every 6 months or in some cases up to a year, and they provide better filtration of the air and hence protection of the equipment. These may add a couple hundred per unit installation....See MoreCarrier or American Standard HVAC
Comments (16)So, we've decided to go with Bryant Evolution. The installation was done last week. It took 5 guys about 6 hrs to complete it. Everything went very well, but off course, only time will tell whether the installation was successful. Due to weather now in Maryland we didn't really have a chance to see AC or heat in action. So if anyone in DC metropolitan area is interested, I highly recommend this company. They are first in the Bryant authorized list of dealers. By the way, they were the only company that recommended we need 2 combustion grill openings since the gas furnace is located in closed storage room in the basement. Otherwise we would fail the gas inspection. After some negotiation the total cost (after instant Pepco and Bryant rebates) comes to $7K exactly. That include the equipment as described above, AprilAire 2410 filter cabinet, additional ductwork to accommodate new filter cabinet, servicing and re-positioning of existing AprilAire humidifier, 2 combustion grills, 10 years labor warranty, 2 maintenance appointments during 1st year and 12 month 0% APR financing. I think this time of year is kind of slow for HVAC contractors, I don't think they would be so willing to negotiate during busy summer months. Our attic HVAC system is also 16 years old, so most likely we will be replacing it next spring. I doubt we need something as sophisticated as Evolution or Infinity for second floor where we are during nights mostly. I'd rather spend more money towards insulating the attic. I'm sure I will be back with questions when time comes :-) Thanks everyone for your help! Happy Rosh Hashanah to everyone who celebrates it today! May your HVAC system never fail!...See MoreHVAC Proposal - Good system?
Comments (6)The east side of the house is a large great room/kitchen/dining area with 12 foot ceilings, many windows and most of the walls are exterior walls. It currently has a 4 ton unit and 100k BTU furnace. The west side currently has a 2.5 ton unit and supplies the bedrooms and baths. This side of the house has varying ceiling heights under 10 ft. He said that from the load calc that I was undersized on the west side and slightly oversized on the east side. So I could possibly get a 3.5 ton on the east side but I wanted to go with a 2 stage and they don't come in .5 size. I am no expert in HVAC that is for sure and have tried to educate myself somewhat but I still feel a bit lost. Everyone tells you something different. I also find it hard to find good contractors. This one I am thinking about going with comes with decent recommendations from a friend and I like the AS brand....See Morewaynejs
