how to introduce new puppy to a
Comments (10)I think 12 years as an only furbaby might be a problem. I've seen success with keeping the puppy crated in a common place, letting the cat approach as it wants, then taking turns with the run of the house for a while. Let the puppy have some time to roam free while the cat is tucked away someplace safe, then do the same with the cat. After a few days of this, then try uncrated contact. They will have become used to at least seeing each other and both their scents will be throughout the house....See MoreNew puppy & old dog. Anyone have a answer on how to deal with this ?
Comments (1)you received some great advice on your other thread. i will add my thoughts. feed the older dog first., basically do everything for & with the older dog first, greeting, putting leash on, attention etc... don't "rescue" the puppy, unless of course its in danger. they have to figure it out and they will. when we adopted a puppy and had a 7 year old dog, it literally took about 6 months to have consistent normal days. it takes time!!!! it was rough and i was home with them 24/7., almost thought i had to re-home the puppy. but they became best friends and my older dog began to depend on the younger one to hear what she "should" bark at. i will say when the old one passed, my younger one was depressed for about 6 months, it was so sad. she was always waiting for her to come back. we couldn't even say her name b/c young one would perk up and look around......See MoreOld dog and new puppy problems.
Comments (17)I'd always recommend buying a dog from a reputable breeder. The animal is much more likely to be healthy, and a breeder is selective about choosing owners. If we're serious about helping dogs, we need to eliminate pet shops. This would decrease puppy mill operations and prevent impulse buyers. I invite you to complain to the American Kennel Club on their 'no oversight' attitude towards registration applications -- enabling mills to sell AKC dogs on virtually no evidence of existing line. I agree with bossyvossy. Our Westie Rescue (puppy mill dog) was ridiculously expensive from the start....See MoreHelp name new puppy
Comments (28)Well I thank u all for your kind input into our fur babies name. I still love all these names but ironically none were chosen. My husband insisted on Stella and she's very feisty so it fits her well!...See Moreyayagal
