I've cut my own hair since I was in junior high. And that was a really long time ago. I always wear my hair short.
I find it is getting harder and harder to get the back cut right. I never thought I was getting stiff but my arm don't reach back there like they used to.

No, I don't cut my own hair, but my husband has cut his for 50 plus years. Can't say I like his hair cuts, but he cuts it anyway.

It is too bad you cut it already. There is a cancer association that uses the longer hair and makes wigs out of it for cancer patients. Can't remember what the name is but my GD donated her hair and she felt good as did the group.

I quite often trim the layers around my face. Doesn't seem worth it to go to the salon for just that. I figure whatever I screw up they can easily fix if necessary! So far no one is laughing at me so I guess I do an OK job. :)

I've done it several times because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have always been sorry after. LOL I;m in the process of growing it out from a short cut. My hair grows fast. I do cut Hubs hair. The clipper set I payed 18.00 for has paid for its self many times over. I hope you like your new 'do' Dottie

The name of the cancer group is "Locks of Love". When my grandson was 10 years old he had beautiful blonde curly very thick hair (think little orphan Annie)& grew it to 10" which is how much they need to make up a wig. His hair was so thick they thought they could make 2 wigs out of it. So some child/adult is walking around with a beautiful head of hair. He got teased a lot at school while growing it but took the teasing very well. Bless his heart....he's a good kid.

Yep, cut it myself almost all the time. Ever once in a while, I get a "real cut", but then I am usually not happy with it.

I can be unhappy with my own cut, and it doesn't cost me anything. LOL

They do prefer children's hair for Locks of Love. They will not accept gray hair, hair that has ever been permed, hair that has been bleached, or colored. Most adult hair is not 'virgin' hair like this. They also will not take super curly hair or nappy hair. Men are more likely not to have had chemical processes done on their hair than women and make better candidates. Even so, sun damage and detergent damage can make it worthless for wigs too.

I looked d deeply into this program when I was going to cut my long hair. I was not eligible to donate. I do have a guy friend who donated his ponytail to the program. (Everyone say he looks better without it too.)

I can cut the front and top of my hair quite easily but have problems with the back. So, for those of you who cut your own hair, do you have any tips for technique in cutting the back? Such as parting off or how you get it even?

Nope - but I'd save a lot of $ if I did. The only time I cut my own hair was when I knew it was going to fall out from chemo. It was all one length and I decided I'd try kind of a bangs type do because if I didn't like it I knew it would all be gone in a few days. Then I cut it again after it had kind of fallen out but a little left here and there. I cut all the wisps off short and nice and even.

No Never!! I still have my cosmetology licence but could never cut my hair the way it like on my own.

Both my girls have given to locks of love. One gave over a foot of honey blond hair and the other gave 10 inches of super thick snow white hair. I told my white haired dd her hair would make good highlights for a wig! She now has hair at least halfway down her back, not quite as white. We won't be getting scissor happy with her, she doesn't want to cut it until its past her buns. I told her she might hurt someone when she's playing basketball games, her pony flings all over the place. She sticking to her guns on this one.

pris, I hang a mirror behind me, while standing in front of the BIG mirror, and do the best I can using it to see. but, since I really can't see how straight it is... who cares. LOL

Yes, I keep trimming it until it doesn't look too good, then go in for a haircut, start trimming again when it starts growing out.

I've sometimes cut my bangs, it is usually not a good thing. I can't even style the back of my hair, no way could I ever cut it!

My oldest son gave his 12" long ponytail to Locks of Love a couple years ago. He had/has the most beautiful thick honey-brown colored hair. It took 3 girls to cut it for him.... he's a very hansom man. Now he gets his head shaved. I may have to try that as I couldn't cut my own hair. I can't even a straight line!

I buzz cut grandson's hair, but he wants to go to the barber next time and not get it cut as short. I always knew this day was coming, start saving up those $$$. I also cut DH's hair. My vet cuts my hair (just trims about 3-4") and in exchange I cut her dog's nails. She gets the bargain, believe me!!

I've cut mine in between trips to the salon.I bought one of those razor combs and that's what i use.I Have been cutting DH hair for more than 10 years now,and when my boys were little i always cut their hair,and some of the neighbor boys hair as well.

I normally cut my bangs with no problem. However, the hot tip is not to cut your bangs when you are angry.

I just donated another foot of hair a week ago. I have donated to Locks of Love 3 times now. I wanted to mention that the guidelines must have changed since Dilly looked into it. They do accept colored or permed hair, as well as curly hair. Bleached hair is still not usable, but they will accept gray hair. According to the Donation page, they sell the gray hair to offset costs.

my daughter is a professional hairdresser. She cuts my hair. She noticed I'm going bald on the right side of my head.

The girl that cuts my hair does a wonderful job and is extremely reasonable,so no way would I even think of it.She charges me $45.00 to highlight[2 colors]and cut my short blonde hair.$ 10.00 to wax my eyebrows and $ 10.00 for atip.$ 65.00 every 5 weeks is well worth it to me.She is also very accomodating.I couldnt ask for anything else.I also get lots of compliments on my and spend no more than 5 mins a day to fix.
