She's going back to SKorea

My beautiful, talented, smart youngest child just told us she's returning to SKorea for another year. Oh, my poor heart is broken. SKorea is soooo far away. I don't want her to live with us forever and ever (well...maybe I do) but I wish she'd stay in-country, at least.

She loves SK, and she loved her job there (she teaches English to med school students) and says the culture, country and people are all wonderful. She's also lived in Ireland, which, of course, she loved and has returned to for visits, and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. For some reason, SKorea has her heart. Nuts.

I'm just venting, I'll get over it. But her daddy and I are sad at the moment.

i'd cry too, if my kids went that far away...but hopefuly she'll come home for extended visits during school breaks...

heard the other night on tv, teaching english overseas is becoming a biggie in the unemployment world...like one young man said it's a great way to save money..he was getting tax-free salery (not much) but free housing, so planned on sending most of the cash home.

(formerly GKGK): Good to hear about the baby leaves! That is a good sign. I suggest waiting to feed until you can confirm the leaves go beyond the small size and you have a few inches of new branch growth. I have a Wash.Navel and Red Blush that were recovering from over feeding (with small "baby" leaves) last July. i gave them more food - - and that stopped the growth. The Red Blush is just now starting to grow again. The WN is stagnant - but i have been flushing.... Stunted growth is a symptom of Nitrogen deficiency. If you have damaged the roots then the plant cannot take up the nutrients and only gets hammered by the salts.

It's sad that she has hit this point, but, like you said, iti's the best thing that could ever happen to her. Some people have to be shattered, not just cracked, before they realize they need to be fixed. If she can stick with this, she will come out an even better and wiser mother than she was to begin with. And the girls are still young enough that she can repair the damage she's done and they may not even remember much of it. Doodle - you are a special person caring for someone who has hurt you over and over. Most of us don't have that capability. You are an example for the girls and they will appreciate the grace you showed their mother.

Looks like I'm lucky, as I only get them occasionally. I got one the other day telling me that there was something wrong in my computer and they could fix it. When I asked how they got into my computer, and insisted ... ... she hung up. The ones that get me (and I haven't got them often - and none lately ... but don't tell them that, please) are the ones where you reply to a dead line ... which goes on for about 10 - 12 seconds ... then there's a click, followed by the busy signal. May be a robodialer, that gets a person on the line and the warm body can pick it up and start talking, if they've finished with another person(victim?). Sometimes when that happens, I have an interesting conversation with myself. What's this they say ... that talking to yourself isn't so bad ... but it's when you start answering yourself back that things start getting a bit sticky? ole joyful ... who figures that talking to one's self can be an intelligent conversation ... i.e. monologue

She's cute! Yes sorry, necrose is just the technical term for 'death/dying'; it's used particularly to describe when cells/tissues/organs die (for example, liver necrosis). When something severely injures cells in the skin, whether it be due to a toxin, trauma, etc., it can cause necrotic lesions that appear similar to scabs, but look different in that they are black in color (think black=death). Depending on the cause/extent of injury, instead of getting smaller and shrinking like a normal scab does as it heals, a necrotic lesion can actually get larger as the tissue around the original wound site dies. Continue to look for any sores, which should pop up in the next few days if she was bit since cellular death happens fairly quickly. If you see any, I would definitely take her to the vet to see what your treatment options are - antibiotics to prevent any secondary infection may be necessary. Also let her 'show' you if she was bit somewhere - pay attention to if she's excessively licking a particular spot. Hopefully she won that battle without any injuries - they can be quite brave huh?! I know if I came across a venomous snake, I'd run away, not try to attack it with my mouth! I'd keep a sharp shovel or something similar nearby when you're outside for your own defense. I don't think we have moccasins in So Cal (at least not that I've encountered), but we do have plenty of rattle snakes. My FIL has a walking stick with a sharp metal tip that he's speared a few rattlers with on hikes.

Add me to the list of those clutching a box of tissues if it were me. I've often said I'm a Walton at heart. ("Goodnight, John Boy......") But some people have a sense of travel adventure, and I have to respect that.

I guess we can be glad this isn't 150 years ago and your daughter isn't embarking on a trip across the U.S. in a covered wagon. Thank heavens for modern forms of communication!

Oh yes, I can understand that you are feeling sad. We want to keep our kids near us--it's only natural. Is there a chance you and DH could make a trip to see her at some point?

Sherry my daughter did this for 10 years. Then one day, she just didn't get the job, and was out of a work visa, somewhat disillusioned and came back. So far, so good. She actually does pretty much the same thing here now, only not for "just South Koreans". She has students from all over the world.

She now lives 15 minutes per car from us, and seems to like it. But, this was after going back and forth 3 times.

Hang in there. Someday, yours might come around too.

Go for a visit! Sounds like a wonderful excuse to travel.
One of my friends went to Egypt, and another to Japan to visit their working far-far-away children.
