I do have a few I do over and over. A few pages have seen better days.
Glenda, I love pineapple casserole but my family and inlaws don't. Last year I made it and not much was eaten so that recipe will not be repeated. Have you ever made a smaller portion just for yourself? Someday when I open a pineapple I may just try to make a small dish for just me. Freezing isn't the answer, I'd just forget it was there.

I love buying old cookbooks and love it when I run across an old recipe with stains and notations.
I still have my mom's chocolate chip oatmeal cookie recipe she wrote down in 1946.

I love old cookbooks too, especially the handwritten notes.

my all time fave cookbook is from my local small home town Louisiana Catholic Church, they have only put out 2 cookbooks, I have both. The first one is looking much like your picture after years of use, I know every person in the book that contributed recipes and they are all fabulous recipes, I would be lost with out it. I got the 2nd version a few years ago as a Christmas gift from my sister. So many people have asked me over the years how can they get a copy and honestly I do not think the first one is available any more, the second one may be but you can only buy them from the ladies church group so you really have to know someone LOL.

Those are the kind of cookbooks I love to collect.

I'm enjoying this. I have collected in Canada the 'Five Roses' flour cookbooks. I have my Grandmothers first edition - 1922 or 25 (in a box right now) and some later editions. The first edition had wartime recipes with replacements for lack of eggs and stuff like that. And her special boiled raisin cake recipe handed down to her from family in the UK.

I have a cookbook ,I think it is from the 30's Household Searchlight, it is chock full of notes on recipes and some handwritten recipes, even some clipped out of magazines, and the local paper. Many of these are recipes I grew up on,and I can remember pulling it out every Christmas for the candy making. Mom has been gone now almost 20 years, but I have a little piece of her in those recipes. That book is one of my most cherished possessions!

Have a Good Housekeeping Cookbook received as wedding gift in 62. It is spinelss, coverless, index brittle, falling apart, but I still use it.

Showed it to ds not too long ago, and told him, many great meals were enjoyed from that book.

I need to put if in a bag to preserve it.

I was very interested to find that Cacholic Churches in La. do church cookbooks. I thought it might be a regional thing, I'm in NE Pa. This is very timely, as my church is preparing it's 2nd cookbook now. The church was founded by Polish immigrants, so the 1st one was heavy with Polish recipes. Now the church is multi ethnic, I'm curious to see what kind of recipes it will have.

I have a cookbook that I treasure. It was given to me by my first serious boyfriend a few years ago after his mom passed away. He told me she had told him many times to be sure I got it when she passed. So, he came for a visit and brought it with him along with a few other things from her. Most of the pages are handwritten and well used and loved. It is an honor to have this cookbook.

I have some I copied of my mother's that look pretty bad. Some day I will have her's. I have my grandmother's, many written on whatever scrap paper she had to hand, including wedding invitations! Some are in her writting, lots with "swell" written on them, and many clippings. Eventually I will have them all typed into the computer with notes on what it was written on. She was very good about writting on the recipe who gave it to her. When I finally finish it, I will copy it to cd and give copies to all my cousins.

Mare_wbpa, My late MIL was Polish, our parish church was Polish and was closed a couple of years ago. Is there any way you can get your hands on a copy of the 1st cookbook that I can buy? And can I purchase one of the new ones thru you? I would love to get either or both! So many of my MIL's recipes are gone. I have a lot of them in our first church cookbook, but many more disappeared. I thought I got them when she passed away, but the box I thought they were in has something totally different in it!
We put out a second one, but none of us thought to put the old recipes in it, so it isn't as good as the first, only because we lost all those in the first one. As the grandkids do not have any of grandma's recipes, I took my copy of the first one, now almost 30 years old, took the coil binding off, and spent hours scanning it, then took it to Staples on cd to have printed and bound for my neices and nephew, and my kids. Glenda, that might be an idea for Park and Park, Jr. if they would like to have your recipes.

I have some favorite recipes framed and on top of my kitchen cabinets. One is the Divinity candy recipe my Mom always used.

I love cookbooks but rarely use recipes when I cook. I just like reading them! lol My MIL gave me a cookbook for Christmas that's title is "Cooking With Alexis". Alexis was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, when she was 2yrs. old. She fought a really hard battle and right now she is cancer free and doing great! The cookbook was one of the fundraisers they did to raise money for Alexis and all the other kids!

One of my other faves is by the Lake Charles,LA. Jr. League called Pirates Pantry and Lo and Behold I looked it up on google and found it in several places including amazon

as you can tell from the glowing reviews on the amazon site it is a very worthwhile one to get.

The 2 from the church are 1st one Country Cooking by Cookbook Publishers for Our Lady of Seven Dolors church.
Number 2 is Centennial cookbook A collection of recipes by Our Lady of Seven Dolors it is a Morris Press cookbook.
There is an address in the back to order them and a phone number no idea if they would still have any.

One place I have found that I can find some very interesting local cookbooks is at Cracker Barrel Restaurant stores.

I treasure every single one that I have had handed down to me and look forward to passing it forward.

country bumpkin, I love the idea of framing old recipes! I have several that are favorites that were my Grandmothers. I think framing and showing them off in the kitchen is a fabulous idea! Thank you so much for posting!

Tami, the 1st cookbook must be 20 yrs old, doubt that there are any to be purchased, but I will check. The 2nd one is still in the developing stages, I have no idea when it will be for sale, but I will will let you know when that happens.

I love this thread! Yes, I have some recipes that look like that. I have my grandmothers recipes, and also my husband's great grandmothers recipes. (no one wanted her recipes, so they gave them to me) By the way, I copied the bread recipe with potato water, and the pineapple casserole. I just had to have them so I thank you for them.

Carolyn, I was so touched by your post. You must have meant a lot to your old boyfriends's mother. What a wonderful thing to receive. That would have meant so much to me. I started writing down my favorite recipes to make a cookbook for my kids. that was over twenty years ago. The kids never got the cookbook but it has grown into three cookbooks where I have gathered favorite recipes. There are too many to copy so they can fight over these cookbooks when I'm gone. Actually, only two of my kids are into cooking. Daughter #2 and son #2. Although son #1 occasionally calls for a recipe. Daughter #1 isn't into cooking at all. Don't know why, she's very creative and I consider cooking a creative activity.

Anyone can do a cookbook they are quite easy, you can get a FREE cookbook kit from Morris Press, I highly recommened getting this kit it is awesome, contains some free software to do your recipes in a great cookbook format and comes with several free sample cookbooks. It is the the same company that the 2nd church cookbook was done by.
I have the free kit, at one time was seriously considering creating a cookbook from them for family and friends, just never did finish the project.

Great idea for schools and clubs etc to earn a little money. I have been thinking of having our Ladies Garden Club do one, we can use lots of our old family recipes in it and make a little money for our club by selling them at our yearly events.
When I ordered my kit they somehow got confused and I got 2 kits instead of one, so I shared the other with someone else that was interested. I called the company to send it back and they were so nice and said just keep and share!
