Amazing Race 01-13-08

Hi Kids,

Don't forget...Amazing Race is on tonight! I think I saw that tonight is the last one before the final. Could that be right? I don't think there is any football on tonight but we better check.

I'm with you, judys. In fact...I think I'll light my 'hopethewhinersareouttonight' candle as I watch. I would love to see them lose! (yikes...that sounds so mean...) Any of the other three teams would be fine with me.

A couple of notes because the rest is going to be rather long and involved: Lynda, I have the Vitex marked for you and in your baggie! And thank you for the marigolds! They will be very interesting with my others! Dessie I would be more than happy to receive your little helper's seed packets! I think it's great! Wendy Try some Chai Spice tea, it works wonders in helping clear up colds and flu. I always add a dollop of honey to help sooth the throat. It's a staple in our house and really does help. Alright, here is my take on this.. I can understand how many were hoping that the two swaps would not coincide, but, we all knew there was a fair chance of that happening. For myself, I know that I continued to update my list, even well after Patty's swap's mailing deadline. I did my updates using the same method we did for Patty's swap- using an updated date. Even had I not, I knew there was a good chance the two swaps would overlap. I joined this one knowing full well- according to the guidelines posted for it- that I may NOT receive as many as I sent in. That I would receive as many as were sent in FOR me, up to five packets of the SAME item. I recall there being some issue with this and a member who became very rude in their comments about this fact. Yes, my package from the What's Left swap is in the second batch to go out. No, I did not keep strict record of what I sent to those who were in the What's Left swap. I did keep better records of what I'm sending for this swap. I also know that a lot of people will be sending in baggies of seeds marked as extras- not dedicated for anyone, but to add in when it's seen those items are on someone's list. No, these may not be some of the rarer or more exclusively wanted items on someone's list. But if someone has some of those rarer or more specific items to share, I'm sure they would have put them into your baggie before they mailed. So, I don't see that anyone would be missing out on anything. The only way I could see having updated one's list further as complicating Patty's swap would be if someone had removed things from their list. Updating and adding items would not have conflicted. Because if there were any extras of what you were wanting, Patty would have included them. So, I guess I'm not really understanding how there is such a need to update the lists just because one is in both swaps. If I receive duplicates, wonderful! Because the things on my list are things I want! If I don't receive something on my list, then no one had it to share. If I receive so many of something that I can't plant it all, then I can bless someone else by offering it up for a trade. So, perhaps I'm being dense here, but how would one not receive something sent in specifically for them (up to FIVE packets of the same item!) that was on their wants list in this swap? Everyone has the chance to see your wants as posted and you have had the option to add to that list, as many including myself have this whole time. The only thing I could really see the two swaps happening almost simultaneously possibly affecting would be one's have's list. I'm sorry, I don't mean to upset or offend anyone. I'm just honestly trying to understand why this is such an issue. So please don't take this as meaning to offend or as pointed to anyone in particular. This is just me trying to understand why so many are upset about this. If you prefer to email me privately and help me understand it, I would be pleased with that and please do! Perhaps there are aspects and issues with this that I'm not readily seeing and should consider. I don't want to keep the thread off track by my question becoming a debate here. Perhaps there can be some adjustments of dates if this swap happens in the late summer or again next winter, but for this year it is as it is and personally, I'm really enjoying it! Nancy, I hope you don't decide to drop out, because I know that I should have at least a couple of things from your list, perhaps more. But I'll respect your choice and be your Garden Buddy either way :) Fran, you have a real job ahead of you and I don't know how those like you and Patty do it! Leave me hosting my "pair em up and let em go" or true RR type swaps! I think those of you that host this kind of swap are awesome! Angela, you have been a wonderful help to Fran and all of us in this swap! I know the time it can take to code pages like that, though updates are easier once the initial work is done, and I want to say THANK YOU for the time and work you are putting in on this swap for everyone's benefit! Kathy~ heading off to stuff more little baggies and envelopes.

I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!

Nate and his Ditzy Blonde Chick are gone. He cried at the end when He lost. She comforted him by wrapping Her body around him like a Toad in Heat.

Glad they are gone.

YES!!!

It worked! The YUCKIE couple is GONE! I was ever so happy about that. And...on her BIRTHDAY...how sad...

I know the editing makes it difficult to know exactly what happens at the end...how close it really is, etc. But this one had me guessing the entire time. I think we all knew that the Father and Daughter team was in the lead the entire time. They got the first flight out of Japan which was just enough to make them first at every clue box and the first to the Pit stop.

Rachel and TK came in second, even with the Speed Bump! Good for them. I like their attitude. After they ran through all the FireWorks and were on their way back to the train station, TK said something like, 'if we come in last at least we went out with a bang'.

I think GrandPa is getting tired. His Grandson carries his back pack most of the time...nice boy! When they had to get to the tea house (?) and not many cab drivers knew how to get there, I thought they would be sunk...we all remember the Grandsons 'issues' with directions and finding his way...

All three teams picked the 'earth' challenge which looked easy. If you can just set your mind to it, forget how much it's going to hurt your feet, get it over with, you're home free. At least they were not hot coals.

What do you think made the difference? Do you think it was Matt and Jens decission to take the subway & bus to the park when the other teams took cabs or, was it the hissy fit Matt pitched between the subway and finding the bus? Did you notice how many people on the street around them were watching them fight? I felt badly for Matt after they lost. He cried and, she took that exact moment in time to analyze their relationship. But after all...it was HER BIRTHDAY!

So, now we are down to the final. I think we all like the teams left. I hope next weeks show is two hours...I hate to see it come to an end. Do you think we will have another Amazing Race in the spring. I hope so.

It was a great night! I was so happy to see them keep melting down and blowing any chance they had to win the leg. Arguing like that in front of those nice Japanese people was SO rude. I was ashamed of them.

I now want Chris and her dad to win, they are really hustling. TK and Rachael are OK, but Grandpa/Grandson- they kind of get my nerves with their crude attitudes and lack of respect for the other teams. I will give them credit for distancing themselves from Nate and Jen, though. Any of the teams could win next week and I'll be OK with it.

The challenges seemed really easy last night- drink tea, find a clown. Sit in car, hold your breath. Walk across smooth rocks (those were NOT jagged at all) or send up balloons. I wish someone would have done that, it looked so lovely.

I hated how Nate and Jen would go from fighting to crying to hugging (and that looked SO stupid) IMO. Too much drama for me, from both of them. They'd argue over anything.

Thanks again, Shirley.

"Any indication as to when the next race will start?"

Wow-sooey, you think just like me. There probably isn't any information on that yet, but I will be diligent trying to find out. I wonder if the writers' strike affects this show.

Too bad the finale is only an hour long, but it will be better for my heat rate.
Can anyone else hear their hour racing while watching TAR?

WOW! Judy, you are GOOD! I was going to finish with my KT, THS and GW viewing before I looked around for any info on the next TAR. Well Done!

So, it looks like we will have to wait until May for the next one? Longer than I would have liked but, I guess the writers strike is a 'good thing', in this case anyway...

Thanks, Judy. This is good news.

Karma in action! I am so glad those to ungratefuls are gone! She was rude to people in all of the contries they visited I thought he was a weakling and am glad they are gone their drama Rama was too much.

I like the last three teams, I do not have a favorite.

The next season only films in April or May. :-(
I expect it won't air until the fall season. They don't normally run it in the summer.
That's a looong wait.

I checked Amazon and you can get season 1 & 7 on dvd. Hopefully they will get more seasons available and then I can get my TAR fix whenever I want.

I live in Canada and can't, but has anyone here ever considered trying out for TAR? What an experience that would be.

I think this is the first time where we were cheering for a specific team to LOSE rather than win! So happy dance over those results!

If there is a "most improved attitude" award, it should go to Christina's dad. He's finally behaving better.
