Frigidaire Gallery F/L Washer/Dryer

I bought a Frigidaire Galley GLTF2940F Front Load Washer and the matching dryer because Consumer Reports rated the washer a "Best Buy." It hasn't been delivered yet. I've been reading many comments from unhappy customers on epinions regarding problems, especially leaks and mold. Does anyone here have these machines and any comments? Should I cancel my order and buy something else?

My mom has this Frigidaire Galley GLTF2940F front load washer for 4 years now and hasen't experienced a single problem. They are good units. In the origional models the bearings were a issue. But that has been resolved as to my knowledge. Whatever you do Don't buy LG that is a nightmare. The frigidaires are the most reasonable priced and you get a lot for the buck.

One thing to watch out with some of the front load washers is that you really have to be consistently diligent about emptying pockets. The drain pump on mine (different brand from those you are considering) is really fragile and quite small, and a coin passing through can snap off the blades. Our old top-load washer from Sears was really rugged, a workhorse that could handle anything without breaking down. This one is a real prima dona. Our repair man pointed this out to the manufacturer's rep who told him flippantly, "What do you care? More service calls means more profit for you!" I'm pretty serious about saving water, so I want to stick to a front loader, but this really angers me -- deliberately making a product that has a known failure point. It probably saved them what, $5 to go with the cheap pump? I'd have been happy to pay a little bit more for a reliable product. if the washer and dryer are the same brand and model line most likey you can stack them. Frigidaire sells a stacking kit for their machines. look at the frigidaire web site, lowes or an applaiance store that sells them. the kit is just a set of brackets and screws to secure the dryer to the top of the washer. like the link below. just buy the one that is for your machines Here is a link that might be useful: frigidaire stacking kits

I have seen some complaints about issues with the top load dryers. Not a lot, grant you, but some. Also seems like there's been issues with damage in delivery, especially on the gas dryers but I'm not seeing anything on that for a long time. Perhaps they've resolved the issue. I am so impressed with the design of the top load dryer (being top load and also for the reversing tumbling to lessen tangling) and I really wanted to buy one and had pretty much decided to splurge and get it when I had to buy one, but in the end I decided against it in favor of a Whirlpool Gold dryer, primarily because the Whirlpool was well over $500 cheaper and additionally it held 25% more than the F&P. That's quite a difference and I'm rather disappointed in the size of the F&P dryer, especially for the price. I think they should be doing better. After a year's use, I don't regret getting the one I did. That said, I'm impressed with the F&P washers too. Very few problems with them from what I've seen. They change models quite frequently, but they're improving as they go. Prices are pretty stable and they're reasonably priced. Yes, the electronics concern me, however as dadoes said, you should put a good surge protector on it, as you should with anything electronically-reliant. Most of the washers these days are electronically controlled. Most do quite well. But you should take precautions to protect your investment. I'd definitely recommend you give F&P serious consideration at least for the washer. You could save some money by going with a non-matching dryer. Otherwise for a basic, solid top load washer, check out the Speed Queens. If you do large loads, the GE Harmony has an avid following too. For what my opinion is worth, and probably not much, you won't go wrong with the F&P washer. Oh, and if you get one, dig back through the old posts. Dadoes has given a bunch of tips and tricks for programming and using the F&P. You'll get that much more out if it if you want to program for various cycles. All depends on your needs. The basics are very sufficient for the average user.

Big hassle. I have my stacked also and they are heavy. You WILL have this problem again. Plan to waste your time from doing something else productive. The Duet sucks! I loved it at first but I must face the fact that it sucks! I have had the door problem many times having to take the bottom off and pull some latch. Then another time I had to take half the machine appart and after unplugging and replugging the all the cables to the main board and door latch everything worked but its a huge hasle. Its just broke again for the 5th time and I know that I will have to do it again. My problem is a Fdl and F14 error and to fix it yourself you must unplug and replug all the cables especially the ones going to the door latch. It may only be those cables to the door latch but I did all the cables and it began working. It's almost 10pm so I guess this is tomorrows project. Give me a break this sucks!

I have a Frigidaire Gallery front load washer and love it. It does an excellent job and no problems with mold. I think if you follow directions you will not have a mold problem. It's just like a bathroomn shower...leave the door ajar after use so it can dry out.

Anything can be a nightmare in the wrong hands.

The Frigidaires are good value machines and there's a lot of happy owners. Many of the mold problems are pilot error. Have you had a front loader before so you know how to use it and maintain it? They're different than top loaders and while most can adapt to the different nuances, many can't.

I had the LG combo 3677 unit for 4 years and it was nothing but one nightmare after another to get it repaired. Read LG service nightmare under a goggle search and you will see why I don't recommend. Very Poor service.

Thanks for your input. This is my first front loader. I know I have to switch to HE detergent, but do you think the powder is better than the liquid? Are some brands better than others?

I also have an LG combo, and my experience with service so far has been better than the service for my Whirlpool dishwasher. Getting an LG technician was easy, and the problem was taken care of right away. They even called me a few days before the scheduled visit to let me know they had a cancellation and could see me sooner if I was available. I did read your nightmare before I purchased the machine, and decided to take a chance anyway since I had to have a combo unit. I hope maybe LG service has improved a bunch since you had yours...or perhaps it's my location. I wouldn't rule them out unless you know you can't get service in your area.

I have the GE version of this washer, and will be having it 3 years and been very pleased with it.

I prefer powdered vs liquid due to the detergent tray don't hold the liquid back if I use the delay wash.

I run Affresh in the water every other month to prevent any issues.

LG had service problems in the past because they couldn't get many to service their machines (or didn't know how)

Their service area coverage is better now.
Find out who will service your machine before buying any appliance.

Google any appliance manufacturer and youy'll find many problems...
