CABRIO problems-Cabrio Owners Help!!

Hello,

I purchased the Cabrio 6200 (with agitator) three months ago. I have already had major problems. I knew Whirlpool was a joke, I had just returned a Whirlpool gas stove for safety reasons. I don't know what I was thinking, and now I feel almost sick about my purchase. I have a feeling the problems are never going to end.

First off, the dryer was making a rattling noise when it was running. Whirlpool sent someone to fix it. He fixed that rattle, but another one showed up the next day that was even louder. So far, we have had 3 service visits for rattles on the dryer.

Then, the washer started flashing "F" and refused to run. Again a service person came and said there was a problem with BOTH the pump and the circuit board. Three months old, RIDICULOUS. Now we will be without a washer for 2 weeks while we wait for parts.

Here is where I need feedback: the loud dryer rattle is gone. However, right when the cycle ends and the drum is nearly stopped, it makes a clicking noise like ten-speed bikes used to make, or almost like the wheel on the Wheel of Fortune gameshow. The service guy did not know if this was normal. I do not remember hearing it before. It would be in the last 10 seconds before the drum stops completely. Does anyone else hear this noise and consider it normal? Please give me your feedback, even if yours is completely silent.

One easy thing to check is whether or not the installer pushed the drain hose down the stand pipe too far. A lot of installers are doing this, and when they do, the washer will siphon out the wash water as it's filling making it seem like the it'll never fill.

The end of the hose is only supposed to push in about six inches or so. The washer should come with a plastic bracket that limits how far the hose can go in, but a lot of installers throw it away before they deliver the washer to the customer's home.

Since you are having this much trouble with your washer and dryer so soon, If I were you I would contact the dealer and see about doing an exchange for something else. Sounds like you have a pair of lemons.

The Cabrio and the Harmony are very similar, but there are some important diferences. The Cabrio has a considerably bigger capacity, 4.5 cubic feet versus 4.0 cubic feet. The Cabrio has a porcelain coated top, whereas the Harmony has a painted plastic top. The Harmony has a heater. The Cabrio doesn't. You can get either machine with a glass lid, but I think the Cabrio's is larger. The Cabrio lid is also counterbalanced with springs so that it'll stay up if you can't open it all the way because of low hanging cabinets. Both machines are very quiet, the Harmony especially so, and neither machine vibrates in second floor installations. The Harmony has a drawer like dispenser at the back of the basket opening. The Cabrio has separate dispensers inset into the top. Which type you prefer is a matter of preference, but a lot of people have complained about the Harmony dispenser drawer seemimg to be flimsy. They're both good machines. Lots of people have been happy with both of them. One other machine to consider though, is Fisher & Paykel's Eco Intuitive washer. It's the washer that the Cabrio is based on, and has been on the market a lot longer than either the Cabrio, or the Harmony.

I have whirlpool cabrio having same issue unbalance on spin cycle. 1st i replaced suspension rods.....still unbalanced. 2nd change out bearings and shaft....still unbalanced. 3rd changed out motor stator.....still unbalanced. 4th changed out sensor.....still unbalanced. Did some research,and what i found is some washers will have a counter balance ring located on top of basket. It is filled about half way with liquid and factory seal. Some have a removable counter balance ring and some models are permanently attached to stainless steel tub. Our model has the permanently attached ring. and has liquid in it. The bottom part of the basket is another plastic molded ring, and has water in it. I understood the the water in the top ring ,but didn't understand water in the bottom ring. I did some research and found that many different manufacturers of washing machines only had a counter balance ring located on the top of washer and done on bottom........was there suppose to be water in the bottom ??? Did more researching and found a video that i guy, like myself with the same issues and changed out the same parts and still had unbalance issues. He had water in the bottom plastic ,and he drilled where the two mold plugs were and drain out water and reseal holes.........no more issues! So I said what do I have to lose,and did the same thing......RESULTS NO UNBALANCE!

If it is a F51 - then it is the motor position sensor. That occured with mine. The repair guy could not fix it. Took a second visit from him to install a new computer board. Do you have the one with the agitator or not? How do like your machine? Is it cleaning well? I posted my comments under the post titles Whirlpool Cabrio woes/warnings. Hope you get it all figured out

The manual that came with mine in 2007 says to run the clean cycle with 1 cup of chlorine bleach once a month. It fills the whole washer with hot water and that takes a LOT of water, and since it never got "dirty" or had any odor, I only have run that cycle a few times in the 7 years I've had it. I use fragrance free products so if it got stinky we'd notice that. The product you used is news to me. Maybe the chlorine was creating problems when used too often. You might try to call Whirlpool customer service and tell them about your residue problem. These washers ain't cheap, and I can think of more fun things to do with the $$$$. -Babka

I have the Cabrio with the washplate and have not had any problems with the washer. I just turned on the dryer to see if I heard the sound you were experiencing and mine does not make it. Right before mine stops, makes a small clunk as the drum stops completely but no ticking noise at all. I think John is right, maybe you should look into getting the pair replaced. No reason you should have to deal with this many problems with a brand new set. Hope I helped you out. Good Luck.

I cannot do an exchange or I would have by now. I purchased the pair (brand new) through the Whirlpool Every Home Partners. This means I get a discount, usually about 30% of retail (I got the Cabrio w & d for 1100 including delivery). However, they do not do exchanges. I called them about their lemon exchange policy, asked them how much it takes, and the lady made it sound impossible. So, for now, I am just going to keep nagging them until it's right. The repairman said the pump and the circuit board went on the washer. Thanks for the thoughts on the hose, but I checked and it was fine. He is coming to repair both today, let's see if he tries to talk me into believing that noise is normal (on the dryer). Thanks for the responses!
