Hi Jayokie ~ I do not know of a forum, but I would be interested in finding one too. It's been years and years since I did any embroidering, but when I did, it was all by hand. I found patterns the same way you do. I think my favorite thing to embroidery was a picture of an Indian head dress. It was so colorful and so pretty. Maybe someone here will have a suggestion.

Wish I knew of one too. I've noticed that everything seems to be machine embroidery. I just got back into embroidering this last summer. Did 3 pair of pillowcases, they were cross stitich, not my favorite. Really prefer outline but I got a good deal on the cases and figure I needed some practice since it's been so long.

I have saved color books for years thinking I would use some of the pictures for designs. Somewhere buried out in a shed is a box of embroidery patterns that my sister gave me and they are from the 40s and 50s. I must find them I know there are really nice ones in that box.

Planning on making some more pillow cases and/or tea towels for Christmas gifts for DDs and DGDs.

Have any of you tried Aunt Martha's iron on transfers? I use them a lot to iron my designs on pillows, baby quilts and towels that I want to hand embroidery. Ebay does have some iron on transfer books too.

Well, there IS a cross-stitching forum. Did you notice it, just above embroidery?

I think you can take a picture and xerox it and then iron the image onto the fabric to be embroidered. The image transfers onto fabric.

Socks, I looked at the cross stitch forum, but I think it's all counted cross stitch, not stamped.

I've used a lot of Martha's patterns, & really like them. My mom recently made a very nice baby quilt using tea towel patterns & leaving off the days of the week. They can be found at colonialpatterns.com if your WM no longer carries them. And a lot less expensive than ebay.

I often trace my selected pictures. A full page from a coloring book can be reduced to the size you want. I've done a doll quilt for a g'dau on 4" blocks. THAT was interesting :-) but she absolutely loved it!!

toni ne, the outline embroidery is not like crewel, IMO. I tried crewel one time & didn't finish the project :-/ With outline, you stitch along the outer edges of the images with needle & floss and inside the image is left 'open'. Some patterns you'd fill in but that depends on the look you want.

I've gone to the craftster.org site. (had to drop the /forum part before it would connect). It's a large site and a bit overwhelming. I did play/poke/search/stumble my way to several areas, and will probably go back when I have the time.

They have tutorials....I checked out one, and 'learned' how to do something I'd only read about. Now, I just have to get the ribbon & actually try it!
