I'd be embarrassed if I was a Springfield, MO fan!!

Holy Moly!

A VERY few of you may know (or care...;-)) that my NDSU Bison were in Springfield, MO to play the Missouri-State Bears. Last week we lost for the 1st time in 2.5yrs @ UNI. We rebounded this week & pounded MSU 45-10.

My main point is this however...
I think it was their "Senior-Day". The ONLY full section in their outdoor stadium was their BAND. For God's sake....NDSU fans outnumbered THEIRS I think!!!! It looked so empty!! The "attendance" announced was ~ 4,900. BULL! Sold tickets...MAYBE. Actual butts in stands? VERY few. I've seen more people @ HS games!

Temps were mid-30's during the game. Up HERE, that's light-jacket weather! So....was it the weather....or just sheer apathy for football there?!??! I think their record is ~ .500.

Faron, I'm from Mn and use to go to Springfield freq. for many yrs. about 10 yrs. ago. At that time 55 was cold hats and gloves. School closed at 20. I wanted to retire there.

I bought some Candy Onions too and got my free tree from MDC, a Loblolly Pine. I don't remember the Sunshine Hill booth. I wish I'd seen that. I went through pretty quickly. I just had a little time on Friday and almost didn't get to go at all. There was a place from Monett (I think) that had a big booth where Hummert's was last year on the east end. I can't remember the name but it said it was affiliated with another company in Joplin so maybe one of you will know. They had a bunch of seeds and some enormous elephant ear bulbs. Hummert's wasn't there so I assume they're still out of business but someone at another booth said they heard they're going to reopen in the spring. I wonder where. I think they need someone else to choose the location this time. I picked up a card for a place called Smiling Sun that sells native perennials. I'm looking forward to checking it out when they get their plants in this spring. They're close to the old stock yards on West Division in Springfield. They have a list on their website of the plants they're going to carry. It also says $6.99 a quart which is kinda high for my budget but maybe they'll run a sale or something. The booth for the Master Gardeners/FOG(?) had a crowd of people when I went by. Violet - I saw you but you looked pretty busy so I didn't say Hi. The big color photographs of butterflies and flowers looked great and made me anxious for the butterfly house to open. Have I mentioned that I want a sunroom? ; ) I also want a pond so I'm thinking I can just have some kind of pond/waterfall feature inside my sunroom and save money. lol That's my lottery dream. ROTFLMAO! I didn't know there was a thread going on about this. It's about time somebody mentioned this! I LOL daily when I peruse the CL's ads. Where are these people coming from? People, proof your ads before you hit that "submit" button. I really LOL when they list an appliance for sale that is so filthy and then they say "would really look nice when cleaned up". Well, duh, clean it up before you take the picture and heck, you might actually "sale" it! I'm glad somebody posted this thread, I've been thinking the very same thing for months. LOL Now I think I'll go have a looky at Craig's list and see if I can find me sum of them thar anteek chester draws.

CSA is Community Supported Agriculture. Anyone can buy a piece of the yearly farm crop. Some places will do a full share and half share. Once a week you get your produce - you don't really know what might be there because it is often picked just the day before. Some CSA operations are certified organic and others are not. If there is a farmer's market in your area, ask some of the vendors for some names. They should be able to provide at least one, for they generally like the idea of keeping the money in the community and supporting a local producer. We sometimes get more than we need/want/can eat, and so I donate this extra to one of the employees where I used to work. I know that she will use it for her good health! Our season generally goes from mid-May until late October. We learned to be 'creative' with some of the items we get.

I'm pretty thick skinned so I don't embarrass easily but I do have 2 funny lingerie stories. One evening back in the early 90's I was at a diner just hanging out and visiting with the guys. Now I am just one of the guys here and do what I can not to give them any ideas otherwise. I had an older car at the time that was always having electrical problems. When I went to leave something or other , maybe the lights, wouldn't work. One of the guys offers to take a look. He slides into the front seat and opens the glove box. Reaches in and pulls out a sexy red and black teddy. He looks at me and I blurt out "that's not mine, my daughter left it there". Then he reaches in and pulls out a pair of handcuffs. "Now those are mine" I tell him. (DD was doing Rocky Horror at the time and one of her friends loaned her the teddy so she could find something like it for a costume) The other one was when DD was going back to college after vacation. We had these big Rubbermaid bins filled with her stuff. It was really windy that night when we got to the school and the lids were flipping up as she and I carried them in. I just got home when she calls and tells me she'd left her student ID/ meal card here. It was like 2 in the morning so I woke her brother and asked him to ride back to San Francisco with me because I was already tired. When we got to the dorm we see underwear scattered and blowing about. It's caught on shrubbery etc. We recognize it as DD's. Apparently it blew out of the bin earlier when the lid popped off and we hadn't noticed in our rush to get inside. So there we are, DS and I, picking up underwear like we're on some kind of weird Easter egg hunt at 3 am outside the girls dorm. Nobody said a word as they walked by.

Do you have any idea what their average in attendance is? Not every school is all about their football team. Perhaps they have students who have other priorities. Four years at what was then MSU--siblings at both NDSU and UND--a son and many nieces and nephews at NDSU and UND--imagine none of us has ever been to even one football game. Imagine more we are all happy, healthy and successful!!.

Yeah, I know it's not the most important! :-)

I was just speaking as an aggregate matter. I think their stadium is 18,000 capacity. But the crowd was almost non-existent. It was just SO stark...

This is D-1 Football. I think it's shameful for a school to have next-to-no support at a football game...

Faron, I know it's not for everyone, but I love college football too, and I think it's a real shame when any sport isn't supported when the team is in play-offs especially. As a rabid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and alumni since I was around 12 (fan that is), I get where you're coming from. It's been really chilly down south this weekend and that sure didn't stop the thousands of SEC fans from packing the stadiums.

I live in Springfield. We are a basketball town. Mens and womens teams in all the local colleges and high schools have huge support.
MSU spent a lot of money on a new football stadium and there was lots of hype about the new season. They actually won their first game but very few since. Saturday was also the start of a cold wave here after a very warm fall. I'm not sure the crowd would have been larger if the weather was warmer.
No, the schools don't close at 20 degrees but it doesn't take much snow to close the whole town down.

I'd be embarrassed if I was a Springfield, MO fan!!
