Speaking about do you or don't you

Not intended to highjack the other post, but wanted to know from those using the mineral makeup which one you use or prefer..and which one is the most cost effective since..I'm not a Clinique kinda gal and the price of makeup is a real issue for me! I normally don't wear foundation, just lipstick, blush and loose powder applied with a puff, along with eye makeup. I have really wondered if it would help this "aging skin" but haven't tried it because of the price. Walmart has to carry it or it's too expensive. Those mall demos are real turnoffs!

I wanted to try mineral powder type of makeup, and we have a store in town called Ulta which has all different types of makeups, hair care items, perfumes, etc. So I went in there and found their line of mineral powder makeup was just $14, plus $8 for the brush. So I bought it, and LOVE IT. I use moisturizer first and let it soak in a couple of minutes while I'm doing my eyes, and then use the makeup.

I'm 55 and on me, think it looks a lot better than the Mary Kay liquid foundation I was using previously. It's very natural looking because it's not thick like the liquids.

I use Bare Minerals which is expensive but it lasts a long time. I use a small amount every day.

This one was on the table at a book club potluck last week. Everyone raved and wanted the recipe. I'm going to cross post in new recipes. Zucchini Pickles - Heidi Swanson, 100 Cookbooks There are quite a number of ways to play around with the personality of these pickles. Sometimes I shave the zucchini paper-thin, resulting in a whispy tangle of pickled zucchini and onions. Other times I want my pickles to have a bit more bite, structure, and definition. In those instances, I slice the zucchini thicker, perhaps 1/8-inch, and let them drain as long as possible, sometimes overnight refrigerated. Also worth noting, when I make them for our personal condiment stash, I used a brown natural cane sugar. It gives the pickle liquid a brownish cast that, quite frankly, weirds people out if they don't know what is causing it. So, if I'm making the pickles to bring to a BBQ or something, I'll make them with regular organic cane sugar - one that is lighter in color.  3 medium zucchini (1 pound / 16 oz / 450 g), thinly sliced  1 medium white onion, thinly sliced  3 shallots, thinly sliced 1 1/2 tablespoons fine grain sea salt  1/4 cup (small handful) fresh dill sprigs 1 small fresh red chile pepper, very thinly sliced 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard seeds 3/4 cup / 180 ml cider vinegar  3/4 cup / 180 ml white wine vinegar  1/3 cup / 1.75 oz / 50g natural cane sugar  Toss the zucchini, onion, shallots, and salt together in a colander and place over a bowl to catch the liquids. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least a couple hours. Toss once or twice along the way. You're aiming to get as much liquid out of the zucchini as possible.  When you're finished draining the zucchini, shake off any water. At this point you want the zucchini as dry as possible. Place in a 1 liter / 1 quart jar along with the dill, chile pepper, and mustard seeds. Alternately, you can cram them into a 3/4 liter Weck jar like I do, but it's always a bit snug in the jar. Combine the ciders and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves, and continue to boil for a few minutes. Pour the liquid over the zucchini and seal the jar. Let cool, then refrigerate. The pickles are good for a week or so.   Makes one large jar. For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned.

I over planned and bought too early. It was an error. Appliances sat around in the garage for months and I lost warranty time because that counts from date of purchase usually. When you buy too early everything is months old by the time it's installed. Take the list of must-haves to a big appliance store. Shop those features, take pix and make notes on prices. When you get down to actually designing the kitchen and know space requirements for various pieces that's the time to get more specific with actual picks since you will need exact dimensions for the cabinet order. Meanwhile, there is plenty of time for the inevitable learning curve. There is one no matter how many suggestions you might get. Now to answer your question: I have a built in Miele refrigerator. What I love about it is the amazing lighting, the sturdy build quality (no clattering or chattering doors when they close) and the door storage. I have a bottom freezer that's excellent and very cold. My fridge doesn't stick out much from the cabinets -- I don't care for that look. No big grill either. It's super easy to clean -- everything comes apart in just the right way and goes back in a minute. Very quiet and very reliable. But bi fridges are a huge cost commitment. I extensively researched bi fridge styles and didn't want storage loss with FD. I don't care for the taste of fridge water -- I have an excellent filtered water faucet which gives me terrific quality water that I know is OK. That's used for all drinking and cooking. No way to do that with a fridge door dispenser. Just a thought if there will be kids in the house.

I still can't decide if I like it. I got some free samples from oceanmist cosmetics, (had to pay shipping) then I bought some maybelline mineral makeup and some Jane minerals. I got some Jane at the flea market for $2.00 so I bought it. Its colorless, since I can't get the shades right, its ok, but I don't like the applicator it has. I feel it just doesn't cover any dark circles or blemishes as well as a cream foundation does.

These kind of discussions make me miss my mom. I think the main reason I don't wear makeup is I never learned how to. We need to have a KT sleepover and do make up! I would like to try one of those mineral ones myself. I think I will check out the drugstore this week. I have so many sun spots on my poor face I am not sure if it will make a difference or not. What do you think?

My DD tried the CVS brand. She really likes it. I'm going to try it also. Can't hurt to save $$'s.

I have Bare Minerals which I purchased from QVC. I love it and the brushes. I agree it's price but it does last along time. And QVC has a 30 guarantee. If you don't like it mail it back and they happily refund your money.
The kits from QVC comes with a DVD to help get you started.

I also love the bare essentuals.It cost me $25.00,but it lasts me 5-6 months.I have tried the Loreal mineral makeup and was not as happy w/it and it ran about $12.00.The bare essentuals blush has lasted me almost a year and I still have alot left,I would guess 6 months or more.I think it runs about $18.00.It is well the money to me.

Exactkly what msmarion said.....another QVC person here. I love the bare minerals and it does last a long time. I hate paying alot for make up too, but this works and it goes a long way.

I wore the bare minerals and loved how it worked but my skin itched sooo bad for about 2 hours after I applied it? Strange I guess....now I use MAC makeup and I LOVE it!! Stacy

Was blessed with a good complexion, so I never spend big bucks on makeup.
I now buy Dollar General's brand for a buck fifty. Suits my needs.

For dressup, which is RARE, I do have Merle Norman products.

I wore the bare minerals and loved how it worked but my skin itched sooo bad for about 2 hours after I applied it? Me too Stacy! I tried a couple different brands and they both bothered me.. I need better coverage anyhow.. so I'll stick to my regular foundation.

Seventy-four year old Nanny here, and I would just like to remind everyone that how you treat your skin is the more important thing....and a good skin-care routine will have you not needing a face lift as you age. I consider myself lucky, in that I always had very sensitive skin, so just covering up flaws etc. was not an option and good skin care
took care of flaws. I am quite pleased with Costco's Kirkland Borges line of products right now. And, darn...I am starting to get wrinkles, but not ready to try some of those wrinkle creams. Nanny

Smokey Mountain Minerials here, similiar to Bare Essentuals (from reviews I've read), MUCH less expensive! DD#1 loves it too now, so does DIL.

I use Base Escentuals. It is the best I have found. The starter kit is the best deal ever. The brushes, an instructional DVD and the Warmth are things I wouldn't have bought on my own but I am so glad to have them!

I like the Smokey Mountain Minerals, too. I bought a selection of sample sizes on eBay, and it has lasted a long time.

Most of the time I just use moisturizer and a light application of translucent pressed powder. (I like Almay and Avon's Incredible Finish.)

I use Jane Iredale mineral makeup, and love it. Yes, it's pricey, but as others have said about other brands, it lasts a very, very long time. A little goes a long way.

I've had skin cancer in three places on my face, so I have to be very careful about sun protection, and I think that the Jane Iredale products have the best sunscreen protection. It also feels great on my skin -- it has NEVER itched at all. I tried Bare Minerals and Youngbood, but both made my skin itch.

I use liquid foundation (currently Jane) put on with a foundation brush. Similar effect and control as the powders without the mess.

I tried the BE mineral powder and it did nothing for my skin. I think if you have really good skin without many blemishes it may work, but I prefer Smashbox liquid makeup when I choose to wear it.

While I love the powder type foundations, it will settle into any wrinkles and accentuate them.

Physicians' Formula makes a mineral face powder with no talc. I like it a lot because it looks good, doesn't bother my allergies, and has in a well-designed container with its own brush and mirror that is small enough to fit in my purse. It is not very expensive and the quality is good.

Since "aging skin" tends to be dry, I find it's best to use a good moisturizer first, before the powder. I also dab a bit of liquid foundation on my nose and under my eyes with a damp wedge sponge before applying powder.

I watched a news segment this morning where they advised us to buy high-quality foundation (for the smooth consistency) and mascara, but that the cheaper brands of powder, blush and lipstick weren't much different from the high-priced ones.

I like the Clinique moisturizing foundation that comes in a tube, even though it is a bit costly.

At my age, I use very pale blush and go easy on the eye makeup.

Speaking of cost, why are you skimping on your makeup? I think you deserve to use cosmetics that suit you, and I'll bet you could save money on something else in your budget instead.

I've tried five other minerals brands and keep going back to Bare Escentuals. And thanks to NaughtyKitty, I have the instructional DVD she got with her kit.

I've tried it all and finally think I've found the best--Estee Lauder. The mineral stuff just emphasized the circles under my eyes and it itched. Estee Lauder stays on all day. When I get ready for bed it looks like I've just put it on. 2 of my BFFs use it too and love it. I do use the Clinique moisterizer, but I've never tried the EL.

If Bare Minerals makes your skin itch (like mine) the Jane Iredale line does NOT. It's wonderful! : D
