Replacing 13 year Heat Pump

southga

My evaporator coil in my attic (split unit) is rusting and leaking freon from 13 year 3 Ton Heat Pump 10 SEER unit. I can spend $1500 to replace coil and hope nothing else goes wrong or replace entire unit. I have narrow down to Trane and Carrier. I get very confused on whether or not I need a 2 stage compressor or single stage, whether I need a Variable speed air handler or regular, get or not get a fancy thermostat, replace or flush linesets, duct work seal or it is fine??? We have a 2100 ft sq home in South GA aka HOT and very few freezing days but cool. Home is insulated well. Been told that Trane is the better unit XLI 15 but getting much more info from Carrier dealer. Seems to have me leaning toward the Performance 15 with Carrier rebate and Federal tax credit.

Can you give me your thoughts , inputs, suggestions on these Carrier specs?

I am really getting lost. I want quality and dependability but like Infinity System cost would never pay for itself since it is so high. Carrier has three main thermostats and upgrades all cost much higher but not sure they have any benefit with below Performance 15 unit.
