This the server part of the village.

This shot is the window seat and is part of the village itself. Previous shot we call the outskirts/park.

As always, it's WONDERFUL to see a sampling of your massive plant collection, Geoff! I, too, hardly get to photograph the Faucaria in bloom. Just got a few snaps, as I could see the yellow spots across my yard from my kitchen window! I think I need to get an Aloe betsileensis. Its color change sounds cool! :) Thanks for the show!

Rita - Yes my roses always get a lot of damage from winter and I have to cut them back quite abit in spring. Last year was the same and they still did well come July/August but yes, definitely late coming. I am excited this year as I planted some hardy roses that were bred specifically to withstand our rotten Canadian winters. One is from the Explorer series and three from the Parkland series. They are supposed to have little to no winter die back. I still love the english roses and the hybrid teas but they just don't like our winters very much. When I post pictures in July and August you'll see how much they will have grown. My daylilies are coming along but yes, they seem very slow this year as well. Our April was so cold and dry and now our May has been so cold and wet. I hope the summer is a lot better! Jason

keswick sniders, Raspberry Suede holds up great in the rain and has good substance (at least here in my cooler climate). Mantis, the best performers are: South Seas, hands down the winner, with Freedom's Triumph, Berma Abercrombie and Shelby's Song the runners-up. It is interesting to note that someone else here mentioned FT not being a good bloomer for them. Mine is a workhorse. The worst are Forsyth Flaming Snow and Techny Peach Lace. Both took 3 years to bloom and are still stingy. Firewall is a bit stingy too.

This is the family room tree from half way up. A live one which I believe was 9 foot tall. The one in the living room is artificial. We like to have the live one here.

We've been getting White Pines, but are going to go to a different variety next year as the branches aren't sturdy enough for our collection of ornaments.

Last by not least, and not a part of the village, is Buddy. After all the decorating was done he decided the artificial tree in the living room was made especially for him. He managed to get the branches to pop off and the mash them down to make a bed.

What fun we've had straightening them out and finally give up after the fourth time of finding his "bed".

I love villages. Mine is still up waiting for me to get busy and take it down. In past years, I've split the buildings up, but this year, I did one display on two card tables pushed together and covered with a sheet.

Looks like a lot of work, but what fun. When I was a kid, my dad put a village under our tree every year. He would get this sweeping compound that was green for the grass and used sand to make dirt roads. We had the old big Lionel trains that would go around the tree. He did this every year on Christmas Eve after we went to bed, He'd be up until four or five in the morning getting it done. Your village brought back great memories. Thank you for sharing. Love your little pooch. By the way, my dad's nickname was "Buddy".

Mine won't come down until next week. You should post this on the holiday forum. They have more experience with the village and holiday decorating. I'll post mine soon...before I take it down ;)

I didn't put mine up this year, we were going to be gone over Christmas and I wasn't doing any entertaining, but I missed it. I'll try for next year.

I'm thinking of keeping mine up for the entire month-its more wintry than xmasy. This year DH put them all on a timer-genius idea! Thanks for sharing your village (and Buddy)! My village grows every year. This year it encompasses a wrap around counter, 3 recessed shelves by the dinner table and the across our entertainment stand underneath my TV. My dream is to find a McDonalds piece, I think Dept 56 once made them. We do have a Publix, Ace Hardware, chinese restaurant, steak restaurant, 2 theaters, chocolate shop, pets shop, Krispy Kreme + lots more.
