I already had some of theirs coming from earlier sales, so I ordered: Flamenco, High Society, Lagerfeld (to replace one that died), Royal Welcome, Soft Whisper, Sundance, Tournament of Roses (also a replacement) and Voluptuous. They did a sneaky late addition of some sale roses after I'd already placed my order, or I'd have ordered a replacement of Malibu instead of the Lagerfeld. Not that it's a bad rose, but it's available elsewhere and that one I'd prefer own root. Cynthia

pm2 - yeah it's surprising that our snowdrops were further along than yours. We are in the 'lake effect' zone close to Lake Ontario, near the west end of the lake. Some zone maps show that area as 5b or even 6. Our first house was a little west of here and closer to the lake. I had a horse back then that I kept stabled about 5-6 minutes away and further inland on higher ground - i.e. outside the 'lake effect' zone. It was fairly common in late fall for rain to be falling at the house but snow to be falling at the stable! So weather conditions can be a bit odd here at times. Spring can be long and cool though because it takes quite a while for the lake to warm up. Autumn, on the other hand, can be long and mild as it takes the lake a long time to cool down once it has warmed up a bit. 'Cooler by the lake' is a normal part of summer temperature forecasts here and boaters have been known to suffer from hypothermia if they capsize and spend too much time in the water in the summer! So I garden in an odd microclimate :-)

My favorite scone recipe from Bon Appetit Cranberry-Orange Scones 3 c. flour 1/3 c. sugar 2 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 Tbs grated orange peel 3/4 c. unsalted butter cut in 1/2" pieces 1 c. chilled buttermilk Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Sift flour, sugar, powder, soda and salt into large bowl. Mix in in orange peel. Add butter and rub in with fingertips until mix resembles coarse meal. Stir in dried cranberries. Gradually add buttermilk tossing with fork until moist clumps form. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead briefly to bind the dough ... about 4 turns. Form into 1" thick round and cut into 8* wedges. Transfer wedges onto baking sheet spacing 2" apart. Bake until tops of scones are golden brown about 25 min. Let stand on baking sheet for 10 min. Serve warm or at room temp. ------------------- *I usually cut into 16 wedges as I like them smaller....8 will make giant scones.
