"Tone" of one's e-mail

I am not a fan of e-mail (although I do it) and use the KT forum sometimes. I notice that people who post refer to someone's "tone". My problem with e-mail and posting on sites is that I don't know how I am coming across. How I mean something might be mis-interpreted. I think it is very hard to communicate without looking someone in the eyes.

I know I live in the past when there was no way to relate to others but by phone or in person.

Do you find it hard to really make yourself understood with e-mail?

No, but the people I email are people who know me very well, and the topics usually aren't anything that would make them question how I feel about something.

Judging from your post, I'd say you communicate clearly. It can help to re-read something for *unintended* meaning before you press 'send'.

This may be due to a failure of confirmation that the email was already delivered, somewhere in the email delivery process. This may be at any point between the first sending from your computer, or the final delivery on the server. I don't think I'd worry unless it's occurring all the time. You can Google duplicate E -Mail and see if that sheds any light. duplicate e mail --yahoo '' ' ' --- G mail etc

Thank you for the reply. I did delete everything, 2 items, in my outbox and it's working okay today. I did the same thing,deleting, a couple days ago and it didn't work, so who knows, maybe it just needed some rest time:) Thank you again, this forum is one of the best on GW,certainly one of the most helpful.

Well a printer model number would be a help. How old is this printer? Must be fairly new if Kodak answered you? Did you install the full suite of programs from the Kodak CD or just the printer drivers?

Usually before posting on a forum or sending an email, I read what I have written to not only check for spelling and grammar, but for how it sounds. Is it clear what I was trying to say? Was it clear what I was trying to ask? When I'm satisfied, I then either submit or send.

I often get emails or read posts here and am left wondering just what they were 'attempting' to say or ask. Often lack of punctuation and capitalization leaves me scratching my head after reading many things. I dislike having to try and interpret the meaning. Life is too short.

Ditto Marilyn, and Chisue too. But what you describe has always been a problem with online communication. Internet posts are usually dashed off quickly, and different people express themselves in different ways. It's easy to misconstrue.

Sometimes when I read an email, I sense a tone from the poster but others don't. Either sarcastic or angry voice etc. But it's hard to know if that's what the original poster intended? I normally give them a break or see in what context the comment is made. I try and see if they could just be joking or not meaning any harm. But some people tend to be snarky quite often, heck I know people like that in real life LOL

I find it hard to express myself at all! I am always misunderstood. I think the NY/NJ people have their own way of saying things an most people from other areas take us wrong.
