I think I asked about this over on the conifer forum at one point in time but didn't get many answers. The P. Macrophyllus I got earlier this year is doing pretty well, although it'll have to cope with lower light and temps, so we'll see how that works. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with other plants in the Podocarp family, like lagarostrobus or nageia, since I've heard of people having success with those indoors. Going out on a limb, for that matter, anyone ever try Dacrydium?

I choose to enjoy my plants when I can. I live in China now, so I have a good friend who is taking care of my collection for me. I have him send pictures during the growing season. I am trying to figure out which ones of my relatives are into c & s, so I can decide who to 'leave' my plants to. I start most of my plants from seed, including saguaros and pachycereus pringlei. So I have no hope of ever seeing them grow arms. I plan to be cremated and thrown into the Atlantic off Maine along with my dog's ashes. I can't validate, but I believe VT was one state that took up the issue of being buried on private property. The school I teach in was on a former cemetery. The bodies were dug up and moved somewhere else. China has a very large population and cemetery land is being reclaimed for second uses. The government is encourage people to consider 'green funerals' such as cremations and burial at sea. The whole area was once a rural village. Traditional Chinese want to be buried in their traditional hometowns, so many want to be buried here. Where do they bury them? Along the median strip of the boulevards under the electrical towers. Last Christmas, I saw one burial right out side the school gate. Coffin and all, along with one guy digging a hole and the other lighting off firecrackers (the ever preset firecrackers). I was told there was another funeral yesterday. You see mini cemeteries along the roadside. Walk along the road and you'll probably bump into a grave. Maybe I use part of my ashes as a growing medium for my pachys or pachypodium rosalatum!

It's not actually "on" the whole time. The ambient temp in the house is 65, so the toaster only comes on every so often to heat up 5 degrees (which takes less than two minutes). The heating bars don't ever get red. Im only going to keep them in there for two weeks at most, then i'll put the seeds outdoors (our highs are in the 60s now with lows in the 40s, so in two weeks or so, it should be warm enough to finish off the germination process --at least i hope, im no expert) bestdank, Im not at home right now, but im sure if they havnt arrived yet, they will by the end of this week. Can anyone truly say it's Christmas without seeing a snowfall in the streetlights with some Christmas lights in the background? What a calming effect, so peaceful. Really puts your troubles aside. And a walk in dense fog is fun! And great for when you're stuffed up from not having enough humidity inside. sandy_in_ia & wantoretire_did, does rain on the rooftop help you sleep well too? Sure helps me. C'mon over, I'll get out a deck of cards, the Monopoly game or something and we'll enjoy the weather. Guess I never thought of it as a "disorder". Now I can complain like so many others! Sorry boss, I can't work today, it's foggy. Don't make me file an ADA complaint! I like different weather, except hot days with high dewpoints. Can't handle that. Rather have it 0° and put on a jacket. At least you can do something.... and breathe. So what's the difference with these special lights? Are they just daylight temperature? If so, why not just use daylight bulbs? Or is is UV rays or something? I don't understand what these lights are supposed to do. To some, low light is romantic, and to others depressing. Unless the romance is depressing? :)
