Comments (46)((((everybody))))) All this hugging going around is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Well it's either that or this budlight I've been drinking.....hiccup! :) KYgirl - Yep, they got the copper pipes too. Don't ya remember...we're building "up in the hills" of KY LOL. We're not in a neighborhood. There is only one house close to us. It's across the street and he didn't hear or see anything. You know, you would think that the people that buy the copper would wonder where Joe Blow gets a truckload of copper per week. I'll never understand the mentality of any of the people involved in this. Kharma seems to be trying to get my attention lately. I think I'll follow BJ's advice in another post and hide out for a while....See MoreNeed info on car alarms!! (My car was broken into last night)
Comments (3)***SIGH*** I hear you! Where I "used" to live in PA,we could go away for a week and let the door unlocked.Here...we had to put up locked gates because the freaks back the alley have teenagers that think it's ok to walk in my carport and take...my lawnmower and our tools when they need money. We learned the hard way that this isn't our small hometown....now we lock everything up.Wonder what the kids back the alley are doing for money these days? Brats! Then they come past and say"good Evening" real sweet! Grrrrr! The neighbor saw them taking my stuff ,I should have called the cops but he wasn't SURE which kid it was. There are about 5 of them back there.More on any given day. Cops are always back there.Only bad family on our street! (Of course there's only 5 houses here counting the one on the corner.)...See MoreI was a victim of a smash and grab last night.
Comments (32)Thank you everyone. For the advice and commiserations! I think of this as a cautionary tale. I've gotten my mini van back from the repair shop and hidden the evidence of the incident in the garbage. I've decided to take on extra work to cover the cost of the glass. More exercise and all that. :) So sorry for every one else who has gone through this and hope that the ones who haven't never do. Unfortunately it did happen at home. DH uses the garage as his workshop and so no options for locking our cars safely away. Besides it seems to happen everywhere in Vancouver. IRL everyone I've talked to today has had stuff stolen from their cars. :( My whole neighbourhood parks on the street as just about everyone else has a lane way house where the garage would normally be. Nobody here but me was broken into this time though. They probably remember to bring in their lunch bags every time too. :) Bonus I get to go lunch bag shopping. I hope it's easier than buying a dress. At least it's supposed to look like a sack. ;) Tomorrow's a busy day so very happy to have wheels again. :)...See MoreThey're Baaaack (Black Bears at My House Last Night)!!!
Comments (26)Early one morning last week, DSIL had to chase a bear out of the garage. The garage door was closed, but he came in through the man door that is almost always closed, it may have been left ajar that night. The bear got the dog food and had opened the refrigerator and pulled out a few bud lights (probably trying to get to more dog food on top of the fridge. DSIL chased him out with a broom and then managed to lock himself out of the house. Fortunately, the bear had run off by then. The dog, who had just walked past the door to the garage didn't bark or do anything to alert. Not a good guard dog to say the least. It is not unusual to have to chase a bear off -- usually yelling is all that is needed. Bear are frequent this time of year around town, but are frightened by humans and property damage is really the only problem. Garbage cannot be left outside, by city ordinance, unless in an approved bear proof containers. Making it easier for Bear to forage in town is dangerous for the bears, not so much humans. Humans tend to contribute to the problem by leaving food out -- even hummingbird feeders are a problem. Moose and mountain lions are much more worrisome -- those are much more of a threat to humans and dogs. Luckily, mountain lions are relatively scarce, but there seems to be a moose injury to a human in the area every year or so. Usually cows protecting their young and they will charge a dog, who they view as a wolf, one of their primary predators....See Moreawm03
