New kitten in my house.
Comments (23)Lis, you and the family are more than welcome, anytime. It took many months and Xanax to learn to live with a gator in the back yard. Since, I work at home and am outside all day, as is the dog, the gator has moved to the other end of the lake. When we first moved here I had one very notable close encounter, like 10 feet away, that flipped me out. I was outside watering the orchids when all of a sudden, it surfaced right there in the lake. The resident gator is about 12 feet. The first time I ever heard it "growl", one night, also flipped me out as I was sure it was right outside the porch in the shadows where I couldn't see it. I figured if I didn't get over it, I'd end up institutionalized:) Fortunately, I haven't seen it in months and heard it last week for the first time since May. There is a pod of manatees living in the lake a block away, at the end of the street, which is way cool. One guy who lives on that lake, spent 2 hours one day scratching them. Evidently, the bull brought the pod over for a good back scratching from a human. This is why I've gotten over being 10 miles from the nearest grocery store....See Moremy older kitten and my new kitten help please!!!!!
Comments (5)When we had 2 cats, we subsequently had a daughter. One cat did fine. The other cat had to be put on PROZAC. I'm not kidding. She was wetting out of the box, it was a mess. We ended up giving them to another home due to the problems. PS. Report the other family to animal control. Sounds like a bad situation for animals, and owners alike. And, as pointed out this is a Water Garden board. Not a Kitty Litter board....See MoreClay Soil - How To Clean and Keep From Tracking In To House?
Comments (6)Yep- i second making a habit of taking off your shoes. Sure, ask guests til your grass or groundcover grows in enough to not be tracking clay constantly. You can keep extra guest slippers handy if you want. We have a shoe holder right by our door and most guests notice without being asked and we don't make an issue of the ones who don't. But we don't have lots of exposed clay people are dragging in, either. It will subside as your grass comes in, really. A sidewalk or walkway of some sort will help lots, too. Otherwise, you'll just make a track in the grass anyhow. Your carpets & or hardwoods will have less wear & tear, and you'll be less likely to track in wet and bugs if you make a habit of shoe doffing, anyhow. Lots less work for you!...See MoreHow do you keep your island free from clutter?
Comments (42)My weakness is paper clutter - I am pretty good with clearing out clothes/dishes/books/etc. but paper is an obstacle for me that I struggle with. What I found to be the BIGGEST HELP EVER to my paper clutter habit was not to let it into my house. When I receive catalogs or advertisements or other mail I can't help but read it or "keep it to read later". Even though I know it's junk and should be tossed. So I went on a CAMPAIGN not to let it into my house in the first place. It was initially time-consuming, but SO worth it. Here are the steps: 1. Go to the DMA's website (the Direct Marketing Association) to register for the Mail Preference Services by filling in the online form. It takes about 30-60 days for it to kick in. On that same webpage is also a credit card solicitation opt-out service which I recommend both to decrease junk mail, and to decrease chances of identity theft (identity thieves could take a credit card solicitation addressed to you, fill it out, and get a credit card in your name). 2. Call all your magazine subscriptions' 800 numbers, and tell them "Please mark my account so that my name or address is not rented or sold to other companies." 3. Call all your credit cards, and and tell them "Please mark my account so that my name or address is not rented or sold to other companies." 4. Call any catalogs that you want to continue getting, but tell them "Please mark my account so that my name or address is not rented or sold to other companies." 5. Call all your utilities (phone/cell phone/electric company, etc.) and and tell them "Please mark my account so that my name or address is not rented or sold to other companies." 6. Call any sweeptstakes 800 numbers when you get a sweepstakes solicitation and get them to remove you from their lists. Just takes one call to each sweepstakes company. 7. Whenever you donate money, purchase something on the internet or via a catalog, write in the "comments' box in capital letters, "Please do not sell my name or address". 8. Call 1-888-567-8688 or 1-888-5OPTOUT. This will remove you from junk mail sent by Trans Union, Equifax, innovis, and Experian. Whew! That was a lot of work! But once I finished, after a few weeks my mailbox ONLY contains mail I want. I would say my mail has decreased in volume by at least 70%. Good for the environment too. And that's 70% less paper on your island, and 70% less work for you every day sorting through your mail. A very nice payback for the time you have to spend initially.
