letting their gray grow out~~~~how is that working for you???

I am 60 this year and that is on my list of changes I want to make, but just not sure how to go about it and not look so skunky in the process???? I dye my hair a redish brown, kinda sorta close to my back in the day natural color. I do my own dye jobs and it looks decent.

One reason I dye is my gray hairs are fizzy, so if all my gray turns out fizzy what then?? My stylist tells me if I grow it out she can give me low lites, I will not have to fuss with it as much as I do now and it will look natural??? Anyone do this??

My DD's do not want me to grow it out they think it will make me look too old?? Some gray hair is so beautiful I do not think mine will be:(

I always thought my DM and DMil both looked younger when they stopped dying their hair a color that wasn't natural for their age. I think salt and pepper can be very attractive with the right cut.

I'll be 70 in a couple months and my hair is salt and pepper.Most of my friends are totally grey and have been for years,and they all have very pretty hair,with natural highlights.My family doesn't grey early,so that's why i'm still S&P,guess you'd say genetics!!

S&P like the other poster said is very attractive.Much better than dyed hair that doesn't look natural and there is a lot of that out there.

Also a we age i don't think long straight hair is attractive on us older folks.JMO

Pippi21, thee critters are the 4 legged kind, mostly chipmunks, 1 groundhog and the bunnies where a few. nothing has worked to keep them away, the groundhog is famous for climbing my 7 foot chain link fence to get in, and the animal detergent did nothing and liquid fence and urine stuff is a waste of time and money. solved no problems or deter any critter. The groundhog met his demise. he got to close to a nesting family of red tailed hawks (or is that red winged?). either way, when the parent hawks where through with him/her, there was nothing left. My datura metal plants, grown in pots are now big enough to do some good as well as be beautiful. The chipmunks are chewing on the leaves and meeting their demise as well. Since all parts of the plant are fatal to them, and a deadly poison, we are now finding lots of dead chipmunks all over the front lawn. As for being homeless? I don't think so. these critters got their homes and dens underground all over the place. chase them away and down the holes they go. Only to return with a vengence a short time later. I gave up on bulbs years ago. Any planted where eaten within days. Now I have a few clumps of daffodils and crocus that arrived courtesy of some 4 legged critter that stole them from someone else's yard. Fran

Welcome to the forum Mark. I do believe that is a pretty hardy list there, I think ou can add Isabella and Frosty Pink to it as I've heard that they are old reliables too. Sorry no cutting shere to spare, I only have CG and it is just a cutting, and my sangs were just planted as seed a few weeks ago. You may want to get some sang seed and grow them out because that one is notoriously hard to root. Stick around and I'm sure you will be able to get cuttings maybe in the spring or definately in the fall. Most of our brugs have already been cut long ago and are sleeping for the winter. I see you are zone 8. I'm not sure but I think you can leave most brugs in the ground in that zone, you may not have to limit ourself to the tried and true ones. Shawn

Chipster, as mentioned above, see if there is a Softlite dealer in your area. The last time that I checked they were not in the Boston market yet but I could be wrong. Park Avenue made by Thermal Industries has a .18 rating. NewxxPro has a .19 rating. There are a bunch of triple panes in the .22 range. I am not sure about the ratings for Gorrell but they are in your area. There is more to buying windows than just the ratings:(copy paste) Rating windows is not as easy as saying one is better than the other one. Consider these things when rating windows: Looks- which window looks the best to you the owner. Does the window look good viewed from both the inside and the outside? Function- does the window meet your needs? Do you want the sashes to tilt in for easy cleaning? Options- does the window company offer the options that you need? How about colors, windows are now sold in several different color both on the inside and the outside. Window screen are now available with several different options. Maintenance- do you want a window that is easy to clean and does not require any painting or staining? Warranty- how long is the warranty that they offer? Will the company be around to honor the warranty? Does the warranty cover labor? Is the warranty pro-rated? Do you have to buy replacement parts at an inflated price? NFRC ratings- Do you care about how good the glass is? Do you understand the benefits of triple pane glass? Do you know the differences between the different spacers? Do you know about Argon gas or Kyrpton Gas? Customer service- will the company handle your window issues in a timely manner. If one of your sashes (glass) breaks how long will it take to get you a new one. You should check the BBB reports, and several of the other on-line complaint databases to get a feel for what people are saying about a company.

Mine is getting very gray but a very drab gray and I have on a couple of occasions let it grow out but truthfully I like it colored...I color it lighter and it is colored but still a graying look without that drab color ...I have to say though that what I missed most was the body that the color gives my hair...It seems pretty limp when not colored...I'm going to continue coloring for awhile..

Ruthie, that is one of the reasons I like to color too, the body it gives my hair and I have no frizzies. Before I colored my grey was also very drab and dull no shine. This is why I am having a hard time thinking about growing out:(

My mom had wonderful S&P hair, her hair was jet black and it looked almost like she had it done professionally. Even after she went all grey it was shinny had very nice body. I of course did not inherit her hair my DB's did, they have nice grey. I know mine is gonna look dull and fizzy!

HEY! I have almost talked myself out of doing it LOL!

I have brown hair with about 10% gray. I just got golden highlights put in by mmy hairdresser, and the grays are completely blended in!

Mine is pure white....But there is no one that will talk me into letting it go natural...I'm not ready to look like a really old woman...

I don't care what anyone says or thinks...IT makes a person look years older than they need to look...

That's my opinion and all the arguing won't change it.

I agree with you a bit Patti, but I have seen gals with beautiful gray hair. I think it is your skin that ages you more, I am not talking wrinkles it is the texture and glow that gals have that make them younger looking, not even really younger just healthy looking. I see lots of gals with wrinkly skin that glow and they look wonderful that is what I want to look like when I am older too:)
