Leg veins going away soon!!

Well....

In a couple weeks, my homely/lumpy leg veins will be removed!!

Had a very detailed Ultrasound scan of my legs last week, and it's a good time to get-'em out the Dr. said. They have been causing some off & on pain for a year now. The scanning took a lot longer than I thought!

Back & forth over the veins...technician squeezing and releasing various areas, etc., to see how blood-flow was affected. Kinda weird to hear that odd "whoosh" sound sometimes!

There are some clots, but not the dangerous type. Deep veins are fine.

My veins are too lumpy to use the "Laser" to collapse them.

I get the "middle" of 3 procedures! It's a scaled-down Liposuction tube I guess, where they're just sucked out! A few small incisions, and the suction-rod goes to work....hmmmm?!

I'll be under general again (had my hernia repaired last Sept.), but up and walking almost immediately they say! They said I should head out to the mall! Each leg is done 2 weeks apart. So, I guess I have to get a couple pre-op blood-tests, along with a current EKG.

Any pointers guys?!?!!?

Make sure you wear the compression stockings if they give them to you. Powder your legs first, makes them go on easier, and use rubber gloves to put them on.

I haven't had to have vein stripping, but I also have the varicose veins and I know how painful they can be! Just be sure to walk around, that keeps clots from forming, and even if you don't have DVT, it's always a good idea to keep from developing it.

Carol, I'm sorry you had to do the mud dance. That is no fun. I wish I could catch some of today's sunshine and heat in a big old box and send it to you. Your forecast doesn't look real promising, does it? (sigh) It seems like the last couple of years, many of you (and us, too, last year) have had absolute monsoon seasons in the spring and summer. It ALMOST (but not quite) makes you long for a good, old-fashioned drought. Hey, I did say "not quite"! As awful as drought is, at least we can plant and then the struggle is just to keep it all watered. Brenda, We had the opposite weather...lots of clouds and thunder and lightning but probably not an hour of actual rain, and that is if you added a couple of short showers to the longer and more serious one. I'm outside of Chattanooga, and my maters have been out for a few weeks now. I have been slowly moving them intot their permanent SWCs that, in theory, I could bring in, but they've been fine out there. (And they are held up via Florida weave, so it would be a pain to do that all over again.) I've got about 40-ish seedlings that are still in pots/cups that I guess I could bring in, but I also keep thinking that I could stand to lose a few. ;) One of my unknowns is somehow already setting fruit, and some of the others are flowering, so hopefully it'll make it through the mid-40's that are predicted for tonight and keep on trucking. FWIW, I've had a jalapeno and a Cali wonder pepper out in their SWCs under cloches made from 2-liter bottles, and they've been fine as well, still growing, even. I ended up having to pull the cloche off the California Wonder, because it got too big for it, and have just left it alone for now.

Okay..Luvs...You asked for it...I'll share my 'Embarrassing Moment'..cause I could use a laugh myself! We had just arrived in Durango, there were 9 of us traveling cross country doing 500 miles a day. Dh/Me...My BIL/SIL.. and 5 teenagers - 2 cars. We stopped at a gas station to refuel. I jumped out of the car cause I had to go to the B/R REAL BAD (I have weak kidneys)...It was one of these tiny gas stations. When I walked in..there was about half a dozen local men..sitting around, just 'chewing the fat' and watching anyone who came in, as it was their entertainment for the day!! Well, I rushed in asked where the bathroom was..they pointed to the door right where they were sitting. I ran in, pulled down my shorts and started to 'tinkle'...well after a few moments, I realized I hadn't heard anything going into the bowl. The toilet was very low...and that's when I noticed it went all in my shorts!! I was soaked. I panicked..opened the door a crack..to see all these men staring at me..I asked if one of them, would call one of the ladies by the car for me. Well everyone came in, wanting to know what happened to me. I whispered to my SIL, that I needed a new pair of shorts. Everything was packed away tight with the camping gear..and they couldn't take anything out.. After much (to me) unnecessary discussion, and fuss over not finding any change of clothes...They finially decided to give me DH's Denim shirt to wrap around my bottom half. Of course, with the audience of these men sitting there taking everything in. So when I finially stepped out wearing DH's Shirt wrapped around me..looking to get out of there real fast, they started to clap and one said 'Mission Accomplished'!! Everyone started to laugh..I know my face was beet red. So, when I think of Durango...it brings 'Warm & Fuzzy' thoughts..lol jane

One of my fitness instructors has this procedure done on both legs. She has bad valves in both legs, had hers done about 2 weeks apart, maybe 12 - 18 months ago. Unfortunately, she is having it done again, the first leg 2 weeks ago and the other this week. For some reason, it didn't work properly but I don't know enough about it to explain why. I would be happier to ask her tomorrow. Her issue is with valves, and it's something she has to address periodically and always will, so it may not relate to your issue. I can tell you that immediately after the procedure she is up and around, even teaching although she is limited in what she can do - a quick demo in class only, but walking, stairs, normal activity is not limited.

I had mine completely stripped several years ago. I was bandaged and using crutches for a few days. Now, several years later I go occasionally for injections to reduce new varicose and spider veins. Good Luck!

No suggestions other than to let your family spoil you a bit afterwards. Keep us posted, will you?

As Dlm was describing, I have "bad valves" in those veins! That's the main cause of the lumpy veins I guess. There are some clots too, but again NOT the dangerous types the Dr. stressed.

I've heard good feedback/results about this Dr. He apparently does a lot of these here! He seemed very confident that I'd have very good results.

Yes, for 2 weeks, I'll have a full compression wrap after each procedure. Then just a "stocking-height" for a few days after that...then....nothing!
(I think I have that right!?!?)
