It's still cool here too. After last years' cool wet summer, a cold snowy winter and a so far cool spring, where's the global warming?

I hope it starts to warm up soon, I need to get some of these larger plants out from under the lights.

Growing some Bhuts, huh? Orange hab's are about as hot as I can handle so far, but I do love hot peppers, so maybe someday...

catman: I hear ya! Forecast scared the crap out of me twice now...grrr. My mater plants were hardened off well & survived the last one (38, I think) perfectly fine, so i'm not in the least worried about a forecast of 41. =)

I know they would survive the temps but honestly I don't want to stunt the growth at all. I want them to grow well so I can start harvesting, eating, harvesting, eating....well you know, any tomato grower can't wait for the first tomato to ripen.

And yeah I'm hoping the Bhuts turn out well. Also growing orange habs and black pearls. Not a big fan of the flavor of habs but I love the heat. Still got to work up the tolerance level though, can't take much more than a sliver of the vein.

I understand the frustration. We had a beautiful day on Saturday & I thought I could leave some of my seedlings outside. Not so. We have a chance of snow today & tomorrow. ~sigh~ Just once I'd like to ease into spring & summer instead of yo-yo into it.

I'm in NY and mixed precipatation was reported last night in the city. It was 51* there at the time 47* up here North and West. 34* forecasted for tonight. My tomato plants are screaming plant me but they will have to wait. (last avg frost date is Friday). I don't think I'll be planting this weekend but we will see.

I was talking to a friend who grew up here in the Boston area. We were talking about Memorial Days Past, and how cold and wet they almost always are around here. It's not until June that the temperature seems to stay in a predictable range. Before then it goes up (it will be 80 on Sunday) and down (40s tonight) pretty quickly.

Crazy thing is, catman & I are in middle TN! Our last frost date is the 15th-21st of this month, depending upon source!. I guess we're just trying to get through Blackberry Winter or something. Crazy TN weather. lol

I'm just south of you, catman and Steve. One of my 'maters went out Sunday -- mud and all. It HAD to go, it was getting way too big. A couple of other things, too, that were literally growing out of their pots. I hope the warmer soil will protect them tonight when it gets down into the low 40's.

It's weird that we're actually having a spring this year instead of one week of spring and into the 90's after that!

Yea, and here comes that da** whole month of rain in May again, just like last year! ugh! My pepper seedlings are gonna be 2 inches tall until July, I swear...lol. Crazy crazy weather.

catman, I know how you are feeling. I can't/won't plant my tomatoes and peppers until next month. Even though I am a Zone 6 too, our last frost date is May 10th.

This crazy weather has made everything put out early. The fruit is either past bloom or in full bloom. And guess what? We have a Freeze Warning for tonight. No way to cover everything up. I'll be up before the chickens spraying everything down with water to minimize damage.

The full moon is here! A lot of folks criticize it but it's true! It's 38* here now...going down to 34* they say.

im in nebraska our usual lfd is may 15 but with 300 plants i took a small shot today and put 7 tomatos and about 20 cucumber plants in if i lose the cucumbers no big deal the tomatos i can pull the cages off and cover just dont see that its going to be below 40 anymore and if it does owell this year i have plenty left

It will drop down to 42 or 43 here in central NC. The whole gang is coming in tonight...and maybe tomorrow night...argh

Dodged another drop in the high 30's however calling for frost in the early morning hours. Hoping for the best as my plants are out and growing here in No VA.

We dipped to 42, but I ended up leaving my plants outside, because I was tired of dragging them in. :-( They look ok for now, we'll see...

Hit 36-37 by where I am. That hit a little too close for me. I went out and covered up as much as I could, but I already have a fair amount of plants in the ground. Already got 20 tomatoes in, 4 tomatillos, two rows of beans just sprouted, cucs that just sprouted, sprouting beets, and asparagus finally poking it's head out.

Everything seems to have made it just fine, but that was a lot closer than I like to cut it. I have plenty of back-up plants, but don't want to use them unless I have to, I'm sure there's plenty more plant related tragedies that await me (high winds, birds, deer, etc.) and I don't want to use my only insurance policy so early.

Supposedly, my area is due for a mini-heat wave in the coming days... Bring it on!

40 last night. Ouch. Mid-40's tonight and then we should be done with the chilly weather; low 80's tomorrow! Everything looks good in the wake of the cold weather except the zucchini's leaves look a little pale like it's stressed. Considering the rabbits haven't found a weakness in the fence and eaten the squash yet, it should feel lucky.

My freshly cut lawn was covered with frost this morning.

That is exactly why I wait till third week of May to plant here in Iowa.

And I just accidentally left my peppers, eggplant and atlantic giant pumpkin seedlings outside last night. They look fine though...but I really didn't want them to be out when it got that cold.

We had a cold snap last week (37)and then back into the 90's this week. Mine were all already planted. Between my FIL and I we had 93 plants covered with random buckets, pails, boxes, ect and then mulched over the tops of my cukes beans, ect. Thank you DH and FIL for covering them!

I think catman & I hit about 38-40. It didn't seem to phase my maters, just like the last drop. I fear if we have another one the "phasing" may commence though. :-\

I'm outside of Chattanooga, and my maters have been out for a few weeks now. I have been slowly moving them intot their permanent SWCs that, in theory, I could bring in, but they've been fine out there. (And they are held up via Florida weave, so it would be a pain to do that all over again.) I've got about 40-ish seedlings that are still in pots/cups that I guess I could bring in, but I also keep thinking that I could stand to lose a few. ;)

One of my unknowns is somehow already setting fruit, and some of the others are flowering, so hopefully it'll make it through the mid-40's that are predicted for tonight and keep on trucking.

FWIW, I've had a jalapeno and a Cali wonder pepper out in their SWCs under cloches made from 2-liter bottles, and they've been fine as well, still growing, even. I ended up having to pull the cloche off the California Wonder, because it got too big for it, and have just left it alone for now.

Just lovely. We have a Frost Advisory tonight, dropping into the 30s. Gotta bring my plants inside...hope the dogs don't get hungry. They enjoy grazing on potting soil every now & then...and the occasional tender young plant. ~sigh~
