Yup, it is a weird weather year, Linda. I don't know if what is blooming now will have time to ripen seeds for trading and me. I expect August to be sweltering but not this year. I have cucumbers that are just staring to make fruit but the leaves are yellowing so I don't know that they will grow to any size or ripen. Bummer! They are the only vegetable I planted and it was just an experiment but once I saw the blooms I got anticipation excitement....now I'm worried. Who knows, maybe it will go back to "normal" soon.

Good heaven, sounds like winter! Gonna be a low of 72 for us tonight. Our maters have ripened so fast we got them all at once. It doesn't look like we have many more to come. Like all the other plants the tomatoes seem to be tired of this and are ready to call it quits.

I always hate to see summer draw to a close, but this year, I'm looking foreward to it.

Not me, Karen - I'm never in a hurry for summer to end, but fall is in the air here - nights and mornings are "brisk". Typically, though, when the kids start school (Labor Day week), the weather turns hot again.

Yeah, the weather turned unusually early this year...we usually get this about the time the calendar turns to SEPTEMBER, not August!

Sheesh, I'm going to have to keep a close eye on things, and take cuttings off the coleus early this year!

Yeah I know! Yikes....it's was 46 at wake up (has bumped up to 56 by 8am) and is supposed to be the same tomorrow morning. It ONLY reached 55 degrees yesterday and rained ALL day/evening and is supposed to be 62 today with rain this afternoon. Usually by now we are still pushing 100 and still dry. Well I guess our total precip for the year has bumped up to a little past 6.75 " ...that's good.

My tomatoes usually keep on ripening thru the first frost.

Ok, it was downright chilly yesterday, all day.
I'm wondering if we are going to have a warm September and/or October. That has happened sometimes, when July and August are cooler than normal.
Or else we'll have an early winter. I saw a "wooly-bear" catepillar the other day.
It was in the 30s in the Adirondacks last night. yuuch.

On the positive side, I actually harvested peas yesterday. They are liking this cool weather.

It was 100 yesterday, low 74. It's 100 again now, low tonight 76. Schools were supposed to open this week, many didn't because of the heat. Others dismissed the kids around noon. Still hasn't rained, either. It is supposed to cool off soon, I sure hope the weather guys are right this time. Our 10 day, beginning tomorrow.

What good is summer, if you can't stand to go outside? Might as well be winter. The heat is just too oppressive. My plants are dying, seeds I wanted to collect just lost on the ground. I can't remember when we last had rain.

Yup, I could've used those lows last night... our 14-year-old AC decided to take a vacation yesterday morning. Nice timing - overnight low was 74, humidity just plain ugly. Pollen count is very high, 6-year-old woke up at midnight with a swollen eye - thank you God for Patanol. Everybody else woke up periodically to the sounds of the great outdoors... who knew those replacement windows had been keeping it so quiet all this time? First day of school was less than perky, to say the least. I'm sure an attic fan would have been very helpful, but we never had one installed... *somebody* didn't think it would be necessary.

But it's all good now. My Sears tech brother came over this evening, cleaned the fan motor and got it going again, and it's slowly drying out and cooling off in here.

I'll be looking for deals on heat pumps in a couple of months I think. I wonder if I can make wintersowing troughs or beds out of the old AC and/or furnace? ;-)
