Ordering quality image printing online

IÃ¢ÂÂm excited about my first quality black & white print order (my dad's photos). I havenÃ¢ÂÂt been all that thrilled with the b&w results IÃ¢ÂÂve been getting from my photo printer, but I'm not surprised. Good printers that use grayscale are expensive - and getting top-notch results requires considerable knowledge about printing. Someday IÃ¢ÂÂd like to have a good printer (and that knowledge), but for now I thought IÃ¢ÂÂd see what online printing has to offer.

Asking around on DPReview, I chose www.mpix.com for my first order. The upload and ordering was simple. I ordered the two largest prints to be mounted on a backing. They offer matte paper specifically made for b&w, so IÃ¢ÂÂll be eager to see what the results look like. Prices were reasonable. The 5x7Ã¢ÂÂs were only $1.49, and my most expensive item was $9.80 for a 10x13Ã¢ÂÂ print mounted on the backing.

Anyone else have experience with this sort of thing?

I had some great black and white copies made from pictures I'd scanned and uploaded to Shutterfly..quite a few years ago..
What you describe sounds nice.
I'll have to check them out. I plan to get a few of the Big Boys Sr Pics done in black n white.

I am not a big fan of surefit. I dont know where you are located but we have a great local futon shop I am sure they would ship to you and the quality is excellent. www.futonfurnishings.net Most mattress stores also sell futons and will have some covers and be a source of a bigger selection in your area. LLBean also sells futon covers.

Nice print! I'm not sure of the difference in quality between the three options, but I do know that non-glare glass takes away some of the crispness of any print. I have a few prints hanging on my walls right now with the non-glare glass. I don't think it detracts too much, but there is a difference, more when you observe the photographic print from an angle.. BTW, just yesterday I ordered a framed print of Mel Allen's "Ullswater, Glenridding" from Art.com . It will be a birthday gift for my DS. I ordered regular glass with it. Let us know, please, what you find out about the differences in quality between the 3 print options. Lynn

I haven't had prints done by any of them, but I did make one of the Snapfish photobooks recently. Considering that I scanned a bunch of old color pictures - they came out wonderfully perfect in the book!

I should have mentioned that I got free shipping with a coupon code from RetailMeNot.com.

AND . . . I got an email last night saying my prints had been shipped yesterday. I ordered them yesterday afternoon! I heard their customer service was outstanding, but I didn't think they'd be this fast!

Andy has ordered from Mpix and has always been VERY pleased!! He had one picture blown up to poster size and it's AWESOME!!

I order my pics from MPIX, I'm with Andy, they do great work. I also ordered a photo book from them once, it was really quality work.

That one sounds good, Alisande!

I have used Ritzpix because I like the matte finish!
they are great! these can be picked up at store, or sent home.

And you can order the white border... you remember, that old fashioned border! cool

Thanks for the tip on Mpix, I was just getting ready to find a place to have 12 of my travel photos printed 8"x10" in black and white. I have 12 black frames waiting for pictures.

I will choose my favorite photo from each of the following places I've traveled in the last two years: Antarctica (I'm choosing two from Antarctica), Buenos Aires, Kobe, Toyko, Hakodate Japan, Russia, Kodiak, Homer, Sitka and Glacier Bay Alaska. I will add the 12th photo when I return from the Iditarod dog race in Alaska in March.

I can't wait to see them lining my boring hallway.

Update: I received my prints today. They probably would have been here yesterday if it hadn't been Sunday. They're beautiful!! I couldn't be happier with them. I especially like the enlargements I had mounted on matboard.

They were packed carefully for shipping. Great job all around!
