Pictures restored oh my gosh

I have over 8,000 pics to go thru....ummm maybe I should not take so many LOL Can't even us my puter til I get those organized and put on a external hard drive as i don't have any memory left on it LOL.....But can't do it toady I am finally going to finsh painting the hallway that I started before Thanksgiving.....stopped because Brian hated the color I love it and I am over him hating it so almso done LOL STacy

LOL, do I know what you are going through. I just burned thousands of pictures to DVDs. Pictures really accumulate so fast. Get that hallway painted and start organizing those pictures, then share some with us. Charlene

Stacy, I went through about that many over my Christmas vacation. Got them all on one computer, organized and in folders, and narrowed down to just 5,000 of them (deleted duplicates and just how many pictures can you HAVE of dogs sleeping upside-down???) Then I bought flash drives and copied them all onto those.

It took the most part of three days to do it and I was SO RELIEVED when done! LOL!

For a future vacation, I'll dig out the first of 40-'leven boxes of paper photos and start scanning them. now THAT's scary!!

In the meantime, CONGRATULATIONS! on getting them saved again!

Buyer Beware> I have bought items from Goodwill off and on for the past few years. We didn't have a store close by. One thing you need to check is the outrageous shipping charges and handling charges. I saw a lovely metal vintage style tea pot I would love to have....bid 3.00 reasonable............shipping 10.00........handling.....2.00. Hmmmmmmmmmm tea pot not so attractive at 15.00 and that's if you get it for the 3.00 bid. I love looking thru all the items Goodwill has but some of their shipping rates are way out of line. All these items are donated and I know for a fact it doesn't cost 10.00 to ship one tea pot. Don't want to rain on your parade just want to make you aware. I also bounce between goodwill and ebay and yes I am a wicked sniper...............LOL Does anyone remember Andy's Warehouse Auction? It was run by Fingerhut no less..........oooooooooh the bargains I got there and their shipping was reasonable. How i miss them. There were a couple others but I don't remember the names. Sigh! Hmmmmmmmmm maybe I should google. Then there's freecycle.............I can't begin to tell you all the goodies I have gotten off there. Ok so I belong to 5 different ones.............:) I subscribe to all that are within a 50 mile radius and try to pick up two or more items on one trip if possible. Anybody watch the Junk Brothers? Bout time I got off my lazy can and chimed in on this. I know EXACTLY how excited you are to see this handsome bird at last. I fist saw a pileated here about 8 or 9 years ago. Oddly enough, our truck had developed problems and my husband and I were pulled over out in the middle of nowhere with the hood up trying to get it running again. I was standing back out of the way and wishing I was elsewhere when I saw it...a pileated woodpecker flying over. I'd only seen them in books but it was like a kick in the gut and I started dancing around , pointing and screaming. Of course, when your husband is stretched out across a greasy hot engine block in his good jeans, trying to coax that P.O.S. into getting us back on the road, he isn't really in the mood to get all goofy about a woodpecker, especially, as he stated later when I was grumpy that he wouldn't look, since IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN A PILEATED. And then about three years later I saw the first one here in our own woods. I doubted it even then, and ran the whole 1/2 mile back to the house through the nettle and mosquitoes to get my binocs. I could never get close enough for a good look but I was sure of it....we had pileateds. And I got the same response from my husband: Don't be silly. I soon got used to hearing their loud ringing ke-ke-ke-ke-ke-ke, but he wasn't impressed. Then one morning we were eating breakfast and watching out the window as usual and he about choked on his frosted flakes. There was a big flash of black and white and there it was, about 20 yards out on the side of a large oak. There was total chaos for a moment as we tried to locate the d--mn binocs (spot a new bird and see if your field glasses don't vaporize)and then I was doubted no longer. I bet you just about gave everybody a coronary when they heard you start hollering. I am wondering how inthe world it held still long enough for you to go fetch the camera and get a good shot. Would never have happened for me. And by the way, I did like everybody else, searching high and low through that HUGE picture, dying to see what was in there. At first I was scratching my head because it appeared to me that there was a bobcat-shaped creature casually sitting among your chickens, which didn't really make sense. Then I saw it. Congrats congrats congrats!!!! I bet it is looking for grubs and carpenter ants among the trees damaged by the ice storm you got two winters back.

Francy -- I am just delighted to see your sweet name here! (I'm here on the Painting Forum today looking for brand suggestions for painting outdoor furniture. I was outside painting some side tables fuchsia but a thunderstorm has rolled in -- raindrops the size of Volkswagens and a fierce wind. One of my favorite things about a Colorado summer, seriously.) And I'm so glad you like the Impervo. I have to agree agree agree (that's a wholehearted agreement!) with how terrific it is to work with. We had it colormatched to our (factory finished) kitchen cabinets and I have to say, because of its incredibly fluid nature, it is absolutely impossible to tell the difference between it and the factory finish. (of course, the excellent color match helps!) We have it on the wainscoting in our breakfast nook / family room and it is so smooth. In a hurry I painted a shelf using a foam brush and it is the same texture, the same finish as the wainscoting (which was sprayed). It's crazy! I also want to tell you that after having it (and ours is pure, bright white) on since late-April how well it's stood up to our family (puppy, three cats, four year-old "Spiderman," two year-old sticky-fingered / chalk-drawing enthusiast). Our two year-old loves walking around with sidewalk chalk in his hand, drawing wherever he feels like it. (and yes, I let him because in general I can just wipe the chalk up) Anyway, the turquoise chalk seems to have permanently marred the white cabinets (I have yet to find a product I'm willing to have in my home which will remove it). BUT, the same turquoise chalk was drawn on the Impervo-painted wainscoting and it wiped right up -- left no marks whatsoever. The two year-old likes to vacuum (wink wink), and he is rough with it, banging it hard into everything, inc. the wainscoting. Not a problem. The four year-old "Spiderman" likes to climb and has attempted to climb the wainscoting (until he was seen by me, that is), scuffing it. Again, I have had zippo problems wiping it off. I feel like an advertisement but that Impervo is impervious! (For the record, I've also been having great luck with Aura -- a little friend came over to play and colored her palm red; she then left red palm prints on our newly painted wall. I was less than thrilled, but miracle-of-miracles, it wiped right off with no burnishing. Now that left me thrilled!) But I do want to caution you to PLEASE, PLEASE take special care of your wrists! I'd hate for you to get any painting injury -- it is just not worth it. It is not worth it at all. (Now a personal note: Thank you for your lovely note. When you posted pictures of your soapstone delivery [so I saw a photo of your neighborhood] I thought: that looks like Burlingame! But then you wrote about your bicycle and I told my husband [who likes to consider himself East Bay savvy because he moved to the US to attend Cal] and he said: "if it looks like Burlingame then it's XXX." And we'd even been to XXX back when we lived on the peninsula! My cousin [who's a DVM] was filling in for a vacationing vet there so we went to visit her. I can't remember the name of the street, though .... Francy, I'm old so this memory thing happens! You are absolutely one of my all-time favorite people here on GW, so you just have no idea how pleased I am to see you here.)

Crafteedee - I had a HandiQuilter with one take-up roller and two feed rollers. The HQ was mounted on a table and I had my sewing machine and another smaller table behind it to hold the batting. I taped a piece of muslin to each roller. The quilt top & back where then pinned to the muslin on the feed rollers and I rolled the fabric up. The backing is deliberately cut bigger than the finished size and will be cut later. I pinned the backing to the take-up roller. I then pinned the batting & front to the backing. Once I was happy with the alignment I would do a basting stitch through all three and remove the pins. I would meander the length/width of the quilt and then roll that portion up onto the take-up roller and do another pass. Repeat till finished. Other frames have slight variations on operation. I did not do any basting other than the lead edge.

The hall is done.....totally so after I vacuum the front of the hosue tommorw and that is all that needs done......I will be at the computer doing pic. work....I didn't think about flash drives...I don't know how to do that but I can at least organize delete them and put them in folders then B or one of the kids can do the other for me and I will share......Thanks stoney and I know about the dog pics....I also havve thousands of duck pics how many does one really need come on? LOL Stacy

Flash drives are really easy-peasy, Stacy ... really!

Our 5,000 pictures take up about 7 gigabytes of space, on an 8-GB flash drive.

You buy the size drive you want ... 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, etc. You can put all the pix on one, or separate them and have ducks on one drive, dogs on another and people on another ... whatever you want to do.

It'll have a little button on top or on the side that you slide to make a USB connector poke out ... stick that in your computer, (typically these slots are in the front of your desktop, on my laptop it's on the right side) go to My Computer and drag your picture folders (not picture-by-picture, but a whole folder at a time) over to the drive where the Flash drive is ... and voila! your computer will copy them over. When you've put all you want on that Flash drive (you don't have to fill it up, you can keep adding to it later on) just pull it out, put a tag on it so you know what pictures are on that little thing, and then put it somewhere safe where there are no magnets.

Syd will be able to help you, I bet ... it really *is* easy-peasy. I showed my husband and he can even do it, so I have high hopes for you too!

I bet your ducks have expressions as funny as our dogs. LOL!

Thanks for reminding me...I have thousands to go through and organize.
I've been putting it off for way too long.I promised myself that as soon as the holidays were over that I would attempt to start.

My 250 gig hard drive was almost full: of pictures! I shoot RAW images and boy do they fill up a hard drive fast. I've got them all burned to disc right now. I'm not sure having an external hard drive would help me right now. It would have to be awfully big.

If you do get an external hard drive, keep back up discs anyways. Put the hard drive in a safe place. If the house burns down, you have back up discs and you save your pictures.

Thanks guys...I turned on my puter this morning and I was like NO I don't want to I figure I am going to try and devote at least a hr. a day to it and then if I spend more great...I will be getting those flash drive things that is a super idea.....Stacy
