cost to replace gas hot water boiler

My new (older) home is heated by radiant floor heat with a gas hot water boiler, original to the house (built in the mid-1950's). I am getting quotes for various contractors to replace the boiler. So far, quotes range from $5600 for an 80% efficient boiler to almost $10K for a high efficiency. The house is one story, 3BR, 2BA, on a slab, about 1500 sf. I am in southeastern Ohio. Does this sound reasonable? I had a similar heating system in a home I had about 8 years ago and had the system replaced for about $4500 with a mid-range boiler. However, the contractor has since retired or I would have him come and do it.
