Smelly Duet But She Does Everything Right :(
Comments (11)monicakm, I understand what she is going through. I would have her wash her towels without soap until there are no suds. Whirlpool had replaced my first Duet after 9 months due to tangling braiding of my clothes and soap issue, than they replaced it with a new one in May, after 4 months of the same thing happening I replaced it for a Speed Queen frontloader that is 4 yrs old, and the Duet was only 4 months old. I washed towels for 3-4 months without soap to try to get the soap out, and I had only used 1/2 tbl of liquid Tide for 9 months, I had to go buy a different washer as you probably have read about my issues. The Duet wouldn't put enough water in to rinse with. Maybe she could take her towels to a laundramat, because it will drive her crazy trying to get the soap out with her Duet, I also would quit using liquid HE soap. As for the FS mold problem, take out the dispenser and try to get all the gunk off, maybe spray some bleach down the compartment. I had a Frigidair FL that I had that problem with and I didnt know where the smell was coming from till I took out the dispenser and looked back in with a flashlight and it was black mold all over where the FS dispenser goes, I tried scrubbing with an old toothbrush but the compartment was too small to reach back into. I had my Frigidair for 7-8 yrs and didnt have the problem until the last few months. I replaced it with the Duet, I wish I would have just kept trying to get the mold out because to find out it was a much better washer than the Duet. Also with the FS, have her add water or vinegar to make it thin so it wont stick to anything, also take out the dispenser after use to let it dry out and leave the door open. I know how rediculous it is to have issues with a Duet that doesn't need to happen, if they would just give more water to rinse with, and warn of these issues. I remember when I first got my Duet they gave me a packet of Tide liquid HE, and on the packet it said to use the whole packet, I knew better so I used about 1/3 of it and WOW it was way too much, that is when I started to use 1/2 tbl, but that apparently was still too much. Good Luck I hope this helps!...See Morewill my new first floor laundry room have a "laundry " smell?
Comments (9)the basement laundry smell might have more to do with insufficient air movement ..... every basement i was ever acquainted with... lacked a cold air return at floor level ... so the furnace never really moved air down low .... leading to that wonderful basement scent ... maybe its just a MI thing ... but i am thinking upstairs.... you just arnet going to be dealing with that kind of dead air ... also.. if it does start bugging you ... something like a bathroom exhaust fan would be simple to install in the ceiling... unless you have a second floor ... also ... the dryer will be sucking air outside.. and it has to come from somewhere ... so it will probably exchange the air also ... one thought for sure.. i wouldnt close the door to the cubby while doing laundry .... good luck ken...See MoreSOUR VOMIT smell with GERMAN Persil :(
Comments (10)Lantro, there's nothing like a long soak in a Speed Queen or any other TL washer. I soak almost every load I wash, sometimes its only 30 minutes, some loads like whites overnight. its such a gentle way to do a longer wash, its also not very much in fashion any longer, but it works. I do use Tide and Persil but I also have many US detergents that are MOL and BOL. Add the STPP to it and a soak you will have clean laundry even with the cheaper detergents. whitening is an altogether different matter, I've yet to find a BOL detergent with a whitener in it, but add some STPP and sodium percarbonate and your whites will be white. Ya I do love soaking in my Queenie....See MoreQuartz countertop smells sour
Comments (15)Do you launder your dish cloths with bleach? We have "sour dish cloth" issues unless we bleach them when we wash them. If not, do so and then try: * Cleaning the counters with a mixture of 10% rubbing alcohol to 90% water. Spray it on the counters and wipe them down with paper towels. * If the above doesn't work, rinse them off well and then try using a bleach/water mixture (wear rubber gloves and be careful!) Rinse well with paper towels. I don't what ratio to use, but it should be weak mixture. See if the bottle says anything about it. Also, do a search on this Forum for the issue. Here are some that I came up with: http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3275085/sour-smell-in-granite? http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2673334/helpmy-kitchen-granite-smells-horrible? http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2680238/help-my-granite-smells-funny? http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4220684/smelly-kitchen-granite-counter-top?...See Morelivebetter
