LG, Bosch, or Frigidaire Front Loader?

In the $600-$1000 per washer/dryer range, who has positive and negative experiences? Any one significantly better?

The Bosch is looking good right now since I can get 20% off at Lowe's and $100 rebate from Bosch, but price alone isn't everything. We are a family of 3 looking to save $ on utilities and also get all around better performance.

Any input? Thank you!

LG gets a lot of bashing around here but I can honestly say that I love my machines and have had no problems with them so far. I've had two sets of LG Tromm washer/dryers. We moved recently and I had to leave my first LG set with the house. I had no reservations about re-purchasing another set for our new home. I had a 2277 washer and now have a 2077 washer. My only regret is not buying another 2277. I didn't think I'd miss the extra features that it has but I find that I do sometimes. Still I am satisfied with my 2077.

I can't give any opinions about the Bosch or Frigidaire sets because I've never used them. If you can get the best deal on the Bosch then go for it.

I can only speak to the bosch 500 in particular... I love mine... got it at lowes... just make sure whatever you buy that you babysit the installation to make sure it is leveled properly.... front to back, side to side and vertically.... buy a full sized level if you don't have one as typically the installers will NOT come with one....

You will need to prioritize your preferences as you consider your options, as everyone's needs are different. I researched this site and all other information I could find for a month before making a decision. I have a Frig. Affinity that was installed in early November, and have been pretty satisfied with it. I needed a stacked set, with smaller dimensions, and reasonably priced. This fit the bill, but since it is a fairly new model, there isn't much of a reliability or repair record yet. If you really need a bigger washer and dryer you should look at some of the larger capacity units. If you need to wash a queen size comforter, I doubt it would fit in my Affinity, but I haven't tried it yet. Friends highly recommend the Whirlpool Duet, and a friend who sold appliances for a national chain store recommended I look at them, also. Or the Sears HE. You'll need to sort out the latest on that brand. If you don't need a stacked unit, you'll have many more choices. I liked the Bosch units in the stores, but they don't stack. You also should look at the Consumer Reports information, plus ask friends. Sorry there is no quick and easy answer right for everyone.

I personally think that a lot of the vendors producing these washers, including the "high end" ones, may have service issues. In this day and age, we all take a gamble when purchasing these products and hope that the respective company will faithfully support their offerings. We have an LG Steamwasher. We like our a quite a bit. At first, my wife didn't like the fact that the Sanitary wash took so long. She used the Sanitary wash for everything. She's used to not having so many options with a washer. I informed her that you don't need to use the Sanitary option for all the washes. Now, she uses a combo of the Sanitary, Speed and Cotton washes. She REALLY like the Speed wash when appropriate. With knowledge gained from this forum, I understood that there could be service issues if my washer needed to be serviced. Something I understood and appreciated when we purchased the product. Getting burned on the original Maytag "Neptune" fiasco, I learned the hard way that company reputations are not what they were 20 years ago. Too bad. To the OP, understand this. On the net, you will rarely see as many positive posts about a product than negative. People come on these forums to post questions about their machines. Some come in to complain about their service. With Internet forums like these, I wonder sometimes, of the total sales of a product, how many are satisfied and how many are not? Sometimes, the net is a good thing...sometimes not. I'll tell you one thing about this forum - it has a WEALTH of info and more positive posts that I have seen on other forums. "It's not 'Buyer beware'....it's 'buyer BE AWARE!' :)

I just purchased a Speed Queen AWN 412 top loader. 3 year parts & labor, 5 year motor & 10 year transmission guarantee. Uses about 25% less water than the old TL's. Lot less lint than my old Whirlpool TL. I even washed sweat pants w/ jeans & there was very little lint on the sweat pants. Higher spin speed than the old Whirlpool. Several water level settings, so the water level is more customizeable compared to just 3 choices w/ the Whirlpool. Because it uses less water, I can wash an X-Lg load without running out of hot water from my 40 gal H2O heater, unlike the Whirlpool. 'Hot' water ended up being warm--our 'cold' water is very cold so the incoming cold water in the tank diluted the 'hot'. So far, I like this washer a lot. Chose a TL because the SQ has no electronic controls to flash error codes, because I'm familiar w/ the TL's and do most of my own repairs, our clothes get very dirty & I like to stop the washer & let them soak in plenty of water and, for less dirty clothes that I don't need to soak, the load is finished in much less time than a FL. Yet another reason was because my local Craigslist is loaded w/ non-working front loaders for sale. That was telling me something, something that has been confirmed by appliance repair people. Oh, and Speed Queen is made in the USA, right here in Wisconsin. Think it was the transmission that went out on the Whirlpool. (Plastic parts in the tranny.) SQ is all metal & has only 6 moving parts in the transmission w/ confidence to offer a 10 year warranty on it. If you're shopping 'used' Speed Queens, make sure to get a newer one mfg'd by Alliance Laundry systems. You don't want a Raytheon one from what I've read. HTH

If it were me I would stick with the Maytag (or Samsung) front loaders. If you're buying soon, May is Maytag Month so there may be some extra discounts now, especially closer to memorial day. The Maytag front loaders are highly rated by Consumer Reports. Also the mold issue is not what it once was - they now build the machines with air vents and fans to keep everything fresh. Also, as for "leaving the doors open" I always just leave mine open a crack (not sealed). FYI Maytag is made by Whirlpool, who also has some good front load washers. The WFW92 is feature-rich and priced nicely right now. As far as top-load washers go, they don't work the way they used to. I haven't seen anyone say that the LG blows away the Bosch. For the multiple hundreds of dollars you'd be saving, I don't know why you wouldn't go with the Bosch. If you currently use a top loader, any good front loader ought to save you a fair amount in both utilities and detergent cost. I use far less HE detergent than the directions say (I never use more than 2 tbsp) and I'm getting great results from my Nexxt 500 series W/D.

I think I've decided on the Bosch 500. For bang for the buck, it seems to be the best, over any of the LGs, the Bosch 700, or the Frigidaires. It looks like we should be able to get both units for around $1300, which would be less than just the LG steamwasher!
