Bright White Cabs & SS Appliances? Let me see your wall color!

I need to begin choosing wall colors - We are going with bright white shaker style cabs, stainless appliances and hopefully Virginia Mist countertops (enhanced to be darker) and oak hardwood floors. I will have alot of light in the kitchen work area and the eat in part of our large room.

Please share photos of your fabulous wall paint colors in your white kitchen and the names of what you chose!

The blues and greens are popular these days, still some red, but I went with something in the camel tan/mocha ice cream range. Mocha ice cream sounds better for a kitchen color, doesn't it?

The photo below is my "before" and the last minute stuff being packed was on the breakfast room table when I realized I needed a photo to remember and compare. I don't have new ones to share for now, but the wall color is what you see above that chair rail behind the table. We didn't change it -- just took it into the kitchen where there had been wallpaper. We did the ceiling at something like 10% of that color -- enough to contrast with the white crown molding up against it. That piece of chair rail gave way for the hutch that now sits in that spot. The navy below the chair rail is only in the family room now, and at least half of that is covered by the brown sectional.

I have Jet Mist counters and white cabinets with dark
wood floors. I have recently painted my kitchen a soft
light misty green. It used to be a camel coat color. It
has been everything from red, yellow, blue, green....
I change it often. Right now I like it but there are days
I think I should go a shade darker with the green.
I am waiting for the moulding, ceiling and some minor
changes from our carpenter to be finished before I tackle
the paint change.

Sorry I don't have any pictures. However we just painted our ceilings and closets in Dover White. Looks fine on the ceilings but it reads green in the closets against either the primed or the Ivoire (yellow/gold/neutral color) walls. I never saw the green tinge on the color chips. In the room with green walls it reads warm and creamy. I would say make sure you look at it in the space you want to use it and against other colors you like or think you will use. We did our bonus room space in Creme yesterday, so far I really like it but the paint is barely dry and the lighting up there is much different than other parts of the house. Many people on the decorating forum like White Hyacinth, you can find it on the color presevation palettes. My painter has mentioned Silver Lining as a warm white but I haven't seen it. (The name sounds like a cool white to me - but what's in a name?) Also Sherwin Williams' website has a room design tool that lets you look at colors and helps find colors similar to one but lighter, darker, brighter, more muted, more yellow, etc... The people at Sherwin Williams might also be helpful, probably depends on who you get. You could always take a painted sample of "your" white and have them color match it with the machine. I think creamy whites are a challenge but look so great when they are right.

There is no law saying all the appliances have to be the same colour. If you want to co-ordinate appliances that are set into cupboard fronts to your cupboards, and appliances and sinks that are set into benchtops to your benchtops, then that's fine too in my opinion. I went for white on everything except the sink which is stainless, but now I wish I'd gone for stainless steel on my stovetop too. I still like the white fridge,oven, dishwasher, stove hood and microwave better with my white cupboards, but the stainless goes better with the fake granite finish laminate benchtops.

Yes, the photo is missing. I had the same dilemma, and I have always preferred white. We now have two new appliances in stainless--a Wolf range and an ASKO dishwasher--and two older white appliances (fridge & walloven/microwave). I have become used to the stainless we have, but, even though I have top quality stainless that is supposed to show fewer marks, it is definitely more of a pain to keep clean than white appliances. To me, one of the biggest problems in making this decision is that many of the nicer appliances only come in stainless. Your choices are definitely more limited if you want to stick with white. And, many of today's white appliances (unless you really go top of the line brands) IMO look fairly cheap and tacky.

I'm voting stainless . . . but not for design reasons. I'm voting that way because stainless is essentially all that's available these days, and if you want to have any choice in the machines you choose, you kind of have to go that way. My story, which influences my opinion: A couple months ago my dishwasher died. I have black appliances in my current house, and since the other items are all in good condition, I needed to stick with the same color scheme -- so I set off to buy a black dishwasher. Lowe's Home Improvement, where I ended up buying, had exactly FOUR from which to choose. All of them offering the "silverware in the door" arrangement, which I dislike. On the other hand, if I'd been looking for a stainless dishwasher, I would've had a much wider selection of brands and features. Though, admittedly, I did not look at white -- it might have had wider availability, and I was not willing to order and wait. You should check to see whether my story is true for you or not, but the moral is that I fear you're essentially going to be "bullied into stainless" by lack of other choices.

I love Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage. My sister-in-law has it in her kitchen, and it's beautiful. I just painted our master bath that color and it is so soothing.

Our house has light blues, greys and sages. We chose "Fossil" by Martha Stewart for the kitchen. This photo doesn't do it just, but it's a very light celery green.
