Please Show Me Your SW Dover White or ?? Cabs

OK, I am in a panic (what's new?), Hubby told me that we should just have the cabinet company paint our doors for us instead doing it ourselves. Now he tells me--after I mixed my own formulation to find the *perfect* color. It would be great if they could use *MY* color, but of course, they only use Sherwin Williams' colors.

I bought sample jugs of different Sherwin William's whites--Dover White, Summer White, and Creme. Of the three, Dover White is verrrry close to my concoction.

I like a white with just the teensiest hint of yellow, and it looks like Dover White has it. At least from my sample jug.

I would love to see photos of your cabs painted Dover White or any SW color that is a creamy white with a hint of yellow.

Sorry I don't have any pictures. However we just painted our ceilings and closets in Dover White. Looks fine on the ceilings but it reads green in the closets against either the primed or the Ivoire (yellow/gold/neutral color) walls. I never saw the green tinge on the color chips. In the room with green walls it reads warm and creamy. I would say make sure you look at it in the space you want to use it and against other colors you like or think you will use.

We did our bonus room space in Creme yesterday, so far I really like it but the paint is barely dry and the lighting up there is much different than other parts of the house.

Many people on the decorating forum like White Hyacinth, you can find it on the color presevation palettes. My painter has mentioned Silver Lining as a warm white but I haven't seen it. (The name sounds like a cool white to me - but what's in a name?) Also Sherwin Williams' website has a room design tool that lets you look at colors and helps find colors similar to one but lighter, darker, brighter, more muted, more yellow, etc... The people at Sherwin Williams might also be helpful, probably depends on who you get.

You could always take a painted sample of "your" white and have them color match it with the machine.

I think creamy whites are a challenge but look so great when they are right.

Jant has SW Dover White Cabinets. I don't have the link bookmarked on this computer, but I think I do at home. I'll post later if I find it. Or try posting over on home decorating for her and see if she sees it.

We used Dover white on our outside trim, the house body being Compatible Cream ( light yellow ) .. Dover white is the lightest color on the Compatible Cream color strip. Dover white being SW 6385 and Compatible Cream being SW 6387. It has yellow undertones up against a real white, but is a very pretty color.

Thanks to all for your recommendations! I have only made it to the Benjamin Moore store but did buy a LOT of samples. I painted my samples on 1/2 size sheets of poster board to see which ones I liked the best. Of those, I painted my top 4 colors on foam board which is really easy to prop up with my tile and granite samples. So far, I'm really liking the BM Bone White and BM Frappe. The warmer colors seem to work best with our lighting and dining/living areas. Thanks again! ~Des

I am new to this forum. We're in the final stages of building a new house (only wish I knew about you guys sooner!) and I love seeing all of your awesome work! We put in espresso stained rift oak slab front cabinets (not too far off of celticmoon's awesome refinishing of her 20 year old oak cabinets!). Our paint we chose is BM Timothy Straw (2149-40) which is a goldish-lime green color. It is bright, but not too bright for our taste. I think we'll love it in our Seattle November weather! We also chose it (over 15 other test paints ranging from tan to gold to sage and even some blues) because it goes really well with the yellow-orange tones of the VG fir woodwork and Red Birch floors in the attached great room. I am SO happy every time I see it!!! Our backsplash will be a blend of 2x12 glass sticks, laid horizontally in a random brick/stick pattern, from Statements Flow Glass line (link below). It's mostly a blend of Glacier, Pepper and Ivory with 5% Mint and Chocolate added for little pops of color. Countertops are my next decision...I know I want light, but am not sure if I'll go for natural stone or quartz yet. Cailin, thank you for this response. Yes, the Dover White appears to be really showing its yellow undertones on some of the walls I have placed samples. You are correct about the 70's ranch not having great natural light! We are removing the wall between the LR and Kitchen to let light in and create a feeling of space. The house (LR window) is South/ East facing - kitchen in the back. My floors are hardwood in all rooms but Kitchen (I will be matching the kitchen with same flooring). Typical natural narrow oak wood found in most brick ranches in that era. Also, we want to paint the exterior brick a darker gray, deep charcoal shutters and we currently have a blue door (SW Briny - it may be too intense). We are going for a cross between cottage/farmhouse with a slight nod to industrial (legs on table, some shelving using pipes). My husband loves the white upper/gray lower kitchen cabinets seen on so many of the Fixer Upper shows. I might want to branch out and try a darker blue base. I like the picture you posted. What color gray is the island? The lighter colors you posted are nice and all look like warm tones - am I correct? I am concerned that the color I choose for the walls does not turn "murky". I had considered Revere Pewter but heard it could turn murky with less light. I have to find colors for walls, trim, doors, upper and lower cabinets. Feels like a daunting job to me.

Thanks, Shelly! I did have SW do my color concoction; it's the cabinet guy that only uses SW formulations, so this is why I am having a hissy fit. LOL. I love Hyacinths, so naturally I want to see that one. It just sounds so pretty.

Prill, love Jant's kitchen! Thanks for hunting down that link for me. It surely looks pretty in HER kitchen.

I have the paint sample, and have painted it on one of my cabinets, and it looks like I oould love it. My fear is that it will come back from the cabinet company looking NOTHING like the SW sample I have. Am I paranoid or what? LOL.

Oh wow, I wish I'd seen Jant's kitchen when I was collecting inspiration pics!!!! Shelayne, glad to hear SW was able to match your concoction color! I agree with Shelly_ok, off-white or cream cabinets are a challenge to pull off but they sure can look pretty when done right. I think I aged myself 10 years in a week trying to get my walls and trim to agree with my cream cabinets. I think cream with yellow undertones is so pretty in a kitchen!
