Prayers for my Father in Law

He's been diagnosed with bladder cancer. They're putting him on a chemo drug called BCG (generic), TheraCys (brand name). He's a very private person, so we don't know how long he's had it, or even if he's going to tell us everything.

He's such a good person, he doesn't deserve this. My husband idolizes his dad and is really concerned.

My father in law is Catholic and very religious, so prayers will come in handy. Thanks in advance.

The more sun tomatoes get, the quicker they turn red. That is one reason some tomato books say prune for sunlight and airflow. Your plants looks rather crowded. Most years I use a dedicated tomato fertilizer, it does make a difference. Lacking that I will use flower fertilizer rather than any nitrogen rich fertilizer. Up here in Minn. he had a cool wet spring which caused tomatoes to just pretty much sit there, not really growing, and look green through June. Of my tomatoes this year, the one that is the furthest along is one I planted a month after all the rest- go figure.

Where was your Dads garden located? Different parts of the country have different desease levels.. I dont know what he used for "chemicals" but a common detterent to blackspot is a fungacide.. You said he had a raised planter.. what did he have in it as a soil medium? ? It could be the potting soil he filled it with , had pretty much was reduced to a non nutrional level.. He he filled it with a mix of clay , compost and sand and fed it with something like plant tone every year.. it wouldve done fine.. Any garden needs to be refreshed and reworked through the years.. very rarely do most plants enjoy sitting down and having nothing done for them.. But I dont know what he used.. if he indeed oversprayed and overused chemicals he couldve damaged his planters, but there is hundreds of factors to consider.. Im not trying to be Pro Chemical(as I dont even spray for blackspot.. and yes I get it), but we also need to look at this rationally, not everything in a garden failure can be claimed to be a chemicals fault.. Thank you so much, everyone. It's been a hard few weeks, trying to deal with the little details and stuff despite the mourning. Claude was very close with his dad. I didn't know him too well, but I loved him very much. I was so upset for Claude having lost his dad, but he seems to be coping okay. He certainly has his days and moments, but he'll be alright for sure. Sophie's take on things has actually helped us deal with it all. When Gerry first died she though it was so exciting that he was actually getting to finally meet Jesus right now! Whenever Claude is having a hard time she reminds him that PÃ©pÃ¨re is probably playing and running around and having a wonderful time in Heaven right now. We tend to focus on OUR grief rather than the fact that Gerry is in a much better place right now.

Sending my prayers for your FIL's complete recovery. I had bladder cancer some 15 years ago. I don't know how long I might have had it before I was diagnosed, as mine didn't cause any symptoms until the week before the diagnosis. I had two large tumors, but they had not grown through the muscle wall of the bladder. The tumors were removed, and I was treated with the same chemo as your FIL. I have had no recurrence at all, and was pronounced cured after the 5-year mark. I hope my good outcome might offer a bit of encouragement.

Thank you all. My FIL's first chemo treatment will be on February 18. He's waiting for his lab results from last week's visit. I think his cancer is confined to the bladder, so hopefully that's a good sign.
