bosch nexxt 500 washing machine questions

I recently purchased a Bosch nexxt 500 washing machine(model #3301) and have several questions:

1. I have read that the machine is very quiet and does not vibrate. My machine vibrates during the spin cycle,perhaps because it isn't perfectly leveled. It is located in the first floor mud room that has lineolum flooring. I have also noticed that it makes noice during the spin cycle, even at the beginning of the spin cycle before the spinning has started. Has anyone else experienced this?

2.The door does not seem to close properly. When I close the door, it will click and appear to be closed, but when I push the button to start the wash, error code E01 lights up. The door, although initially closed(based on the clicking sound) pops open from the latch. This is an intermittent problem and doesn't occur with every wash. I have only washed about 10 loads, so the machine is very new and should not be damaged from use. Does this seem to be a defect?

3. What is considered a full load of wash? When the clothes are first put into the machine, it will look full, but when the wash starts and the clothes become wet, it appears to be a much smaller load. If washing towels, for example, how many bath towels can be washed without overloading the machine?

I'm not sure if I can answer all your concerns, but I'll take 'em one at a time:

1. Proper leveling is ESSENTIAL for vibration free results. The "noise" during the spin speed might just be normal. Let's remember these things spin up to 1100 rpm... too fast for absolutely no noise. We have introduced some new and improved feet that really help with any vibration. The part number is 605139. If your washer feet are not at least 1 3/4" in diameter and a light grey color you might want the new feet.

2. I'm not so sure about the door issue. This is not as common. Did the load before finish all the way through? Are the door and latch system lining up properly? I can't think of any reason this should be happening. Sometimes, the gasket can get too dry and creat too much friction with the glass on the door. It should get better after 10 loads however. Let me know if you still have this problem after doing some more loads.

3. A full load is whatever you can get in the machine. Really the machine is only limited by weight (a little over 19 lbs.). If you can fit it in the machine it will get clean. We claim that you can do about 24 bath towels (depends on size, weight, etc.).

Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm not sure if I have the washer feet but I will look into it. Thanks for the tip on loading the machine. I washed a set of queen size sheets and four bath towels and a few mischellaneous items all in one load(XXSanitary)and they came out whiter and cleaner than ever. Even stains that had previously been set from prior washings came out.

Valves are a 'consumable' in any plumbed-in device. Feed valve life can be extended if you shut the water tap off between uses (as Bosch says to do in the manual!), though unless your water pressure is unusually high that should not normally be necessary. (If your water pressure *is* high, you can buy a flow limiter to put on the cold water tap for around $30.) Valve failure in 3 months is ridiculous. I doubt water will pool if you have it shut off at the feed, but that won't really tell you if the valves are the only problem. If the repair does not solve your problem, keep after Bosch, and if customer service gives you the run around ask how you can elevate the service request ("elevate" is often a trigger word in the service world, means you move up to a customer service person with actual authority). I think the reason all the appliance companies make service calls so difficult is that 95% of all problems are user error (not in your case!), and if a repairman was dispatched for every one then machines would cost twice as much to cover the cost of the unnecessary service visits. BTW, FIATs are actually very well-constructed cars, even the model (128 ) which gave them such a bad reputation in the US; it was service that killed them here. I have the Bosch Nexxt 500 plus. It does (like most FLs) adjust the wash cycle time when necessary for several reasons. Initially, it tries to control the incoming water temperature (by mixing cold and hot) to get close to the desired wash temperature. Once completely filled, it will estimate how long it will take to heat up the water to the desired temperature when applicable. Your desription sounds like there is either an over sudsing issue or an unbalanced load. How much and what detergent are you using? Liquid detergents are very easy to overdose. You shouldn't see any real suds when using a FL. When the washer detects suds, it will add one or more additional rinse cycles to get rid of them. An additional rinse (and spin) will take approx. 15 minutes. Another reason for extended wash cycle times could be a problem with balancing the load. If things are severely tangled up, the washer might not be able to balance the load for a high spin speed. It will attempt several times to spin and to redistribute the load by tumbling back and forth. Initially, the countdown keeps going until the washer starts the spin and adjusts the remaining time accordingly. Hope this helps. Do you think a shallower dryer could be rigged to be stacked on the 500? No no no, this is a terrible idea. First, the new Bosch models have plastic tops (I think), and even the old ones did not have tops that could support the weight of a dryer. Second, even machines that are meant to be stacked should only be stacked with a matched unit. If you really want to put a small dryer over the Nexxt, what you should do is build a very solid support structure which supports the dryer separately above the washer. If you are only a little short of lateral space, look for a thin dryer (possibly the Fisher-Paykel top-loading dryer will fit where the Bosch dryer might not). - DR

An E code is generally a latch error and not a control error. It means the latch over heated possibly from trying to latch several time real fast. Before doing anything try unplugging the unit for 5 minutes and then plugging it back it. Many times this will clear an error. Also check to make sure the door is not binding and is closing completely. If it isn't this could cause the latch to chatter then give an error code

All FL manufacturers claim this. Don't try it, unless your bath towels are paper-thin. - DR

To the best of my knowledge, no, they are not being offered for free. The switch in production occured late last month.

Your machine probably just needs to be leveled. I have my installed on a second floor and have no vibrations. When the delivery guys put the machine in place I experience some vibrations. So after they left I leveled it myself and it's working like a dream machine so far.

The manual say the drum holds 17.5 lbs. Is this dry weight or wet weight?
My washer makes an awful rrrr rrrr rrrr noise before and during the spin cycle, the machine is only 3.5 yrs old. Plus the drum bouces like crazy. Do I have the clothes unevenly loaded or what? This has just started. Does something wear out that makes the machine spin? Wet jeans do get pretty heavy. When the drum begins to bounce I stop the machine, take out the heavy piecies, close it up, press start and hopefully it spins. Then when its done I put the other clothes that I removed back in and let them spin. This is taking all day to wash clothes and for something that cost over one thousand dollars it should never wear out. My Kenmore lasted longer than this!
This is not good for Bosch.

Hi, we have had the 500 series (washer/dryer) for 4 years now. Over all we are very happy. We had to learn to cut down on soap more then we thought cause it won't spin out once in a great while. We are experiancing a problem now though. Washer still runs and cleans ok, but it occasionally makes a popping noise. Almost sounds like someone is popping a small drum or empty oatmeal box lid. Sometimes it's about one pop per second and sometimes it is pretty much rapid fire like a machine gun. Pop,,,,pop,,,,pop. Or Pop,pop,pop,pop. It's rather loud and annoying. But we're more concerned with something might be coming loose or breaking inside. As I said, as of right now, it's washing just fine. Any idea's, thoughts? Thanks in advance, Bob.

Hi, we've had the Bosch 500 washer/dryer for 4 yrs. Sometimes the washer doesn't spin the water out, but does when you hit SPIN or start over. Cutting down on soap seems to help. Our problem now is that the washer makes a popping type noise. Sometimes a pop,,,,pop,,,,pop and somtimes a pop,pop,pop,pop,. Sounds like a small drum being popped. It is rather loud and annoying. It still washes clothes Ok, but were concerned it might be breaking something inside. Anybody who can shed some light on this, your insight would be appreciated, thanks Bob.
