My local bank was bought by another

What a pain in butt it's going to be. The first hint I got was when a new debit card came in the mail from a bank I had never heard of before. My first thought was someone had opened an account using my identity and somehow screwed up and gave my address too.

Then I opened the second piece of mail from my current bank telling me they had been bought by the other bank. The next day a box of checks came for me and both kids for our accounts. Good thing I only had one box of my old checks left, or I would've been a little irritated to have to throw them out. I'm also glad I didn't buy the kids' new checks, which I almost did last week. They were both out of their first free ten checks from when we set up their accounts.

Now I have to change my bank account info at work and figure out what to do about the recliner I bought for my dad. JC Penney's still hasn't shipped it or taken the money out of the old account. It's supposed to be shipped on or near the 18th of this month so it will be after the bank switches over. Arghhhh!

I need to call and make sure our checking accounts are still free and what if anything has changed. Anyone else have their bank taken over by another recently? I've never had this happen before.
