Red oak vs White oak - pictures please?

multi part question. First, I just found out that the difference in getting laminate flooring vs finished on site red oak hardwoods on my modest 350 sq foot kitchen/hallway is only going to be about $500. Sounds like a no-brainer for me. The budget could take about $1000 more, so I'm safe at this point.

BUT, here are my questions, and I hope you helpful folks can help me.

#1 finished on site - how horrible is that to live with for the time it's happening? And we do have 2 cats. might it be easier for us to just go with pre-finished?

#2 red oak finished natural vs white oak finished natural - I need pictures. I'm not sure this is the look I want at all, so I might want to spend more $$ to get something I like, but I really haven't looked at any hardwoods yet.

#3 high end laminates - pictures and stories from anyone who has them and likes them.

Thanks as always folks!!! and I did scroll through the FKB but most folks haven't taken good shots of their floors. :(
