Red oak vs White oak - pictures please?
Comments (3)Go with real wood - hands down. In old house, I had all carpet torn up and had the hardwood floors refinished. Turned out great - and while yes, it can be messy, it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. The company did a great job. only took a few days to sand, clean, stain, finish. When we built current home 16 years ago - had hardwood floors installed in two rooms. We weren't moved in so no impact to us directly but again, it was a pretty easy process. And it still looks great 17 years later with MINIMAl upkeep. \ Real wood all the way if you can...See MoreRed/White Oak Floor Mismatch?
Comments (12)Did you get a full sand/refinish on the old floor along with the new? Or did they leave the old finish in place and "hope" the new would match the old? If they left the old finish in place then you could be seeing the difference between a clear coat (that does NOT amber) and an old solvent based finish that has a STRONG amber colour. That would be the place to start. But I have a feeling this is red oak vs. white oak once again. Did you pay to have samples of your old floor sent off for identification to a lab? Should have cost you about $100 and taken 1-2 weeks to get the results back. Please let us know a bit more about what was done and whether or not the old finish was left in place....See MoreMatch new White Oak Floors to existing Red Oak in our home addition?
Comments (1)Sample this where the two woods meet. So you can see how big of a contrast there is. On my screen, the water base looks good....See Morewhite vs red oak hardwood floors
