Makayla gets an apprentice

Since Makayla is not allowed to have her own Gardenweb account, being under age, she has to post on my account. Here goes:

My cousin, Madison, and I spent a day at Grandma's house because it was spring break and Mom and Dad had to work, and we wanted to bake something. We decided to bake oatmeal cookies. Madison likes to pour stuff in the bowl, so we let her add the flour:

We also made pizza for lunch, and then Madi had to go home. Brother and I spent the night and we made some apple French toast. You make it the night before and then bake it in the oven and it was really, really good. Grandma had canned some apple spice syrup and we put that over top. Elery said it was dessert, but I thought it was a really good breakfast.

Grandma let me use her cookie scoop to make the oatmeal cookies and now I want one. Grandma says she'll buy me one. Maybe two, different sizes!

Its so sweet of you to start teaching Madison what to do in the kitchen. Did you enjoy the cookies?

That apple French toast sounds and looks so good. Elery may have said it was dessert, but I bet he enjoyed it, too.

You're very lucky to have such a wonderful Grandma teach you how to cook. And she is one of the best cooks around. Enjoy your cookie scoops and use them often.

I wish I could cook as good as you, looks yummy.

It so good to see you and Madison are working on projects together. BeauLily have a close relationship with their cousins and I think it's important to be friends with cousins as well as relatives. It makes family get togethers fun and memorable.

Sherry, you are right, Makayla looks like Ashley and they both have the same personality. It's very funny, from my point of view, not so much from Amanda's. LOL LindaC, before you decide you'd like to keep Bud, you'd better lift him. He's 30 pounds of dead weight at 10 months old, what a moose! He just learned to crawl this week, so now he's EVERYWHERE. Oh, Annie, I can't believe how big Makayla is getting!! What a beauty! I have pictures of Chelsea (DD), around 2 years old, kneading bread dough by hand. She was up to her eyebrows in flour - it's one of my favorite photos of her. Gavin (GS), has sent me some of his artwork from NY. His "pieces" are also on the fridge, holding court over the kitchen. Chelsea laughs when I tell her I'm going to have them framed! I love that Makayla is helping you can! You're building a wonderful bank of memories for her - that's so great!! Lori :D

coconut, how WILL Aunt Coke be able to cook Thanksgiving dinner without help? It won't be the same, you know. Poor Aunt Coke... Diane and RR, she will indeed be five in November. I know, it's hard to believe. Sigh. I'm going to cry when she gets on that bus for Kindergarten..... Deanna, just borrow some young mother's small children! I borrowed nieces and nephews and neighbors until I got Makayla and Bud. (grin Yes, Bruvver does need to learn. First, though, he needs to learn to use the potty. (grin) Sally, Linda, sure I'll be your Grandmother. LOLOLOL. The age thing might be a bit difficult to explain, but the cupcakes will make it all worthwhile, I'm sure. Madison looks professional. She will be another great cook in the family.

Keep making oatmeal cookies, but not broth.

Have your heard the expression, "too many cooks spoil the broth"? :-)

I really like the idea of baked apple French toast - it sounds a bit like a combination of bread pudding and Apple Betty. Who created the recipe? I would like to try making it, and I think that baking is better for French toast so that all servings get done at the same time. Maybe I will have my own apples to use this fall.

You're lucky that you get time off for Spring Break - I did not have that when I was in school. In Texas, schools did not have Spring Break bakc then so that the school year could end earlier in May, before it got to be too unbearably hot. Now they have more air conditioning.

Oatmeal cookies are one of my all time favorites, and I used to make them with granola and chocolate chips. The granola made them more crunchy, but I had to reduce the amount of sugar because the granola was sweet. What do you like to add to your oatmeal cookies?

MMmmMMMmmMMmmMMmmmm! It all looks wonderful Makayla. You are nice to let Madi dump in the flour. I bet she made a big cloud with it. I would rather have dessert for breakfast any day. Keep up the good work. I like your posts.
