What did you do in 2010? Make a list and share it here. It can be places you went, people you saw, events you attended, big or small, funny or sad, anyting that you did or experienced in 2010. Here is my list:

-was interviewed for a newspaper article about local blogs

-saw Red Rock Canyon, Nevada

-went to a Blue Rodeo concert

-saw the TV show "Republic of Doyle" filming downtown on several occasions

-did some renovations on the house

-wrote poetry

-saw a tarantula in the wild

-completed all levels of Angry Birds game

-traveled by plane, boat, ferry, taxi, car & bicycle

-saw a double rainbow

-went to Ferryland lighthouse picnics with 2 of my sisters

-appeared on the local (NTV) evening news

Well, now - my 'accomplishments' for 2010 would pale in comparison to yours, Casey - you lead an active life! Do everything you want to do, while you can - as you get to beyond middle age, circumstances may not allow you to be so active.

At 60, I pretty much lay low. I took the Grandkiddos to see their Gramma in K.C., Missouri for a week (our vacation this year), and other than that, I didn't do anything grand.

Please do participate. As national chair of Roses in Review I opened it up to everyone several years ago so we could get input from all rose growers. We are trying to help all rose growers with the survey, and we need as much input as we can get. I would love to see the day where we get as many reporters from non-ARS members as we do from ARS members. Then we would really have a good cross-section of opinion. C'mon, give it a try. How are your tomatoes doing this year (2010)?

I'm in Berkeley and it rarely has been over 70 degrees. Tumbling Tom has grown huge in spite of chewed half off by deer in May and I have gotten an occasional ripe cherry tomato off of it since 2 weeks ago. It must be setting less than 10% of its blossoms until recently. My Black Plums were also eaten half off by the same deer and they are just now turning yellow, but they seem to be setting a little higher percentage of the blossoms. These were both of my best producers last year. My San Francisco Fog is setting some fruit finally and the plant just started a growth spurt so it might have a good season. I planted some new ones for me like Sub-Arctic Plenty, but the deer erased them.

Diana, I'm so glad to see you posting here! I hope the tomato plants do well for y'all. Isn't it disheartening how, as we get older, we have more aches and pains in our creaky bodies after a good day of gardening and yard work? I remember the good old days where I could be outside from sunrise to sunset and not even feel it the next day. (Those days are gone.) Hope your DH didn't overdo it while planting those tomato plants. Leava, I love my soap too. It feels so nourishing on my dry, gardening hands when I come inside and wash them with it. Good luck with the teaching art studio in El Reno. I hope you'll keep us posted on how it goes. Seedmama, Indeed we are jealous! I do wish I lived close enough to just 'drop by' to see Paula and Ken. Paula, Woo hooo! You really do have the perfect location, but you know, seriously, we'd understand if you didn't want to invite half the state to your place again. So, if you change your mind, just say so. Otherwise, you're likley to be "the hostest with the mostest" forever after. I promise I'm not going to grow too many tomatoes next year. Maybe I'll grow too many peppers instead. I hope the folks at the FAA enjoy their plants. Carol, Tim and I did get the sign you brought (thank you!) and I am planning to spray it with a clear coating before it goes outside. I clear coat pretty much all decorative garden things with the clear Kry-lon spray paint. Y'all, I hope to get my last raised bed planted today, and then I will start planting in the currently unfenced new areas and in containers. I feel like I'm ahead of where I was at the end of April last year....and I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping we don't have a monsoon the last couple of days of April. (For anyone relatively new to this forum, last year Love County had 12.89" of rain fall in less than 24 hours on April 29-30, which set back my mostly-planted garden for a month or two as the soil stayed wet forever. On another April 29th about 4 years ago, we received 9.25" and most of that fell in less than 4 hours. So, April 29th makes me nervous.) I cannot believe I've got the big garden almost planted. I still have tomato plants left to squeee in somewhere. lol I also cannot believe the Spring Fling is over. 2010 Mid Season Tomato Review and First 2011 list

Jay, I am married to a former Pennsylvanian and he still has relatives there who garden and every summer I envy their cool temperatures (you know, they think 85 degrees is hot) and their usually abundant rainfall. When we go there to visit in summertime, everything is so lush and lovely that it blows my mind, especially compared to how roasting hot and tired everything looks in this part of the country at the same time. On the other hand, Late Blight seems to be on a tear there the last few years, so their beaufiful crops can fail suddenly. Marcy, That's a great list from the Kerr Center. Thanks for linking it. Susan, I think each of us adds/drops varieties for many reasons. After growing tomatoes for 25 years on my own and for at least 15 years with my dad prior to that, I'm just through with the massive experimentation. The truth is that out of every 20 or 25 new (to me) varieties that I try, maybe one or two is worth putting into the permanent growing rotation. So, rather than constantly looking for something new, I'm trying to refine the grow list and weed out those that perform least well in a broad range of conditions. I've reached the conclusion that there really aren't many, or maybe not any, incredible undiscovered varieties out there that taste/perform significantly better than what I've already tried....so I've stopped looking. I had high hopes for the Brandymaster series, likely because it is so tempting to believe there could be anything that could match Brandywine's flavor. They've performed so poorly here that I doubt I'd see a better performance next year or the year after. While many of you may be seeing significantly hotter or drier weather this year than in your average year, for us here in southcentral OK, our rainfall has been exactly 'average' for the year to date and so have our temperatures. If anything we've had slightly lower temperatures, in general, in Love County than we usually have although higher than average heat indices. So, for me, this is a pretty typical year except the real heat arrived in mid-May instead of late June so we got hot earlier, but not necessarily hotter than average...just earlier than average. A tomato variety that didn't perform well in what was a fairly typical year here at our place this year likely wouldn't perform any differently next year. In Oklahoma we have a wide range of average annual rainfall....some folks may average 15" of rainfall per year in western OK while others in eastern OK may average 50-60" or more. Humidity varies widely as does soil type and pH. So, what grows well for someone in highly alkaline soil and water in western OK may not grow nearly as well for someone in eastern OK with entirely different weather and soil. I enjoy looking at everybody's lists and hearing how different tomatoes perform for different people but I know that works well in areas drastically different from mine may not work well here. Growing in containers is much more complicated. First of all, nothing that I grow performs as well in containers as in the ground. Heat and pests hit container-grown plants much harder every year than those in the ground. The grasshoppers have completely stripped my container tomatoes of every leaf and fruit, but have only done sporadic damage to in-ground plants. It is the same thing with spider mites....only the container plants have had issues with them this summer. For me, container-grown tomatoes are great from Jan. or Feb. through the end of June or early July. After that, I might as well yank out those plants and toss them on the compost pile because they're toast. Last year, the tomatoes in containers did somewhat better than they usually do....but we had much higher than average rainfall and much more rain/clouds/cool weather than we see in an average summer. I'm looking for plants that perform best in the worst of conditions, not the best ones, because more often than not, we get the worst conditions every July and August. In containers, I plant tomatoes that can tolerate the heat and the restriction of their root growth and still perform. That means I often grow tomatoes in containers that I don't consider 'good enough' to plant into the ground....stuff like Better Bush and Husky Red Cherry. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm just at the point that I want what produces best for us here, and I don't want to keep looking for something 'better' because I don't think there is anything out there that's really that much better than our tried and true varieties that make our grow list most years. For a long time, I gardened for fun....trying any and every thing that interested me. We ate all we wanted fresh and gave tons away and didn't care if we put up much for the non-gardening season or not. In recent years, though, I've developed a deeper appreciation for the truly superior flavor of anything/everything that's grown locally and picked/prepared/preserved at its peak of perfection. Thus, I give away little and try to raise as much of our annual food supply as possible. In a good year I fill up three freezers, a root cellar and manage to can 2 or 3 or 4 hundred jars of 'stuff'. Since that is what is important to me now, I want plants that produce well, that provide tasty food we like and that are not prima donnas requiring a lot of pampering. Thus, I'm less inclined to experiment and more inclined to plant what produces really well with little fuss. In a lot of ways, the 'experimentation years' were a lot more fun, but the farm-garden-preserving years have been much more productive. Now my family is spoiled and I must produce as much home-grown food as possible because they don't like grocery store stuff as much as they used to. Even DS's firestation co-workers prefer fresh, home-grown and I'm going to try to plant a lot more for them next year so I can send them all the tomatoes, peppers and other yuummy things they're craving. There just isn't room, or enough improved soil, to experiment with varieties now as there used to be. I don't mind that, really, because as long as what I'm growing is producing well, I've gotten over thinking there are incredible varieties out there just waiting for me to find them. Megan, Black Plum grew very well for me for a long time and then for 2 or 3 years it didn't and I dropped it. It is odd how that happens....and I loved Coyote too. If my garden were twice as large as it is, I'd bring it back to the grow list. So many varieties, so little time (and improved soil). The tomatoes I grow from seed invariably outperform storebought ones and I don't know why, but I've seen it enough years to know it is true. Dawn

Here's a nice boring one lol

-Threw my DD a surprise 21st birthday party at a local restaurant.
-Moved her out of the dorm and home for the summer.
-Went to a John Edward (psychic) group event.
-Gave my Mom a semi-surprise 75th birthday party.
-Spent most of the year dealing with systemic Candidiasis (not the lady type).
-Moved DD into her first apartment.
-Vacationed in Branson and visited with Flamingo once again.
-Had to put our sweet dog, Kobi to sleep.
-Visited a real distillery.
-Went to lots of 50th birthday parties, a graduation party, a baby shower, a wedding and a funeral.
-Bought tons of newer furniture on Craigslist.
-Gave tons of older furniture away on Craiglist.
-Redecorated DD's old basement bedroom into a bar and entertainment area.
-Got a new computer.
-Lost 25 lbs... then gained most of it back after switching medications.
-Lost a friend in her 50's to a heart attack.
-Had the flu.
-Threw a Christmas party at our house for friends.
-Ate pheasant for the first time.
-Started a low carb diet.. 10 lbs. gone already.
-OH and I won the KT Trivia game two months this year! Woo! lol

That's an impressive list, Casey! By the time I finish mine, several other posts will have appeared. I look forward to reading them.

In 2010 I

- had three photography exhibits, two with opening receptions
- sold eight pictures
- lost my beloved Mickey cat
- hosted my first "singing party" in over a decade
- quit my job
- got the news that a grandbaby is due!
- learned to seriously text
- bought a snow blower and a log splitter (a big deal for someone who grew up in NYC)
- acquired an 8' arch on which I grew pole beans
- bought two new lenses for my camera
- was given Topaz, an interesting photo editing program
- was given NetFlix and Roku, thus will shortly be pushed into the world of streaming video
- read at three poetry readings
- gave a rug hooking demonstration at the library
- lost my beloved Wolfy dog
- got Lyme disease
- had my piano tuned twice
- did six freelance interviews/photos for the local paper
- received 12 rejections from Woman's World (a record!)
- added a 1200-page songbook to my huge collection
- rejoiced at the engagement of my daughter and fiance
- rejoiced at the marriage of my son and daughter-in-law
- went to four hamfests (ham radio flea markets) with my DS
- photographed countless gravestones for FindAGrave
- cooked many containers of beef and chicken scraps for the dogs at the animal shelter
- went back to being very strict about what I eat again

Attended my 50 year high school reunion in California.
Attended all the home games of ISU women's basket ball.
Attended 2 home games of ISU men's basket ball.
Took water aerobics classes all summer.
Got a third cat, Mango.
Had to have my beloved Lab, Jake, put down.
Got new carpet in my living room. Hooray.
Had to spend 3 nights in the hospital for an infected finger.
Offered a year of free babysitting for my friends' new baby.

Oh, lets see.

I turned 75 last year
Had a 57 year anniversary
I did an awful lot of cooking
Went to a lot of rummage sales
Had a dream that Amber had the Giggles, meaning pregnant and found out the next morning when she took the test she was
Got to go with her to see her first ultrasound
Finally got a lot of updating done to the house and yard
I am sure there are other things but that is all I can think of right now.

My bone density scan showed a 33% improvement in my osteoperosis, but not enough to be taken off Fosamax.

I attribute that to exercising and taking on the weight machines in the gym. Maybe good living?

I'm still healthy at 71.

Bought myself a new car.

DD diagnosed with breast cancer
spent 3 days in the hospital with internal bleeding
lots of Dr's apts
Granddaughter got married to a nice guy
Went to CA to GD 8th grade graduation and had nice time visiting with other relatives
DH bought a new mini truck.
Son lost his job, got a new one, moved, DIL new work place also

Learned in January that we were gonna be grandparents again - after ten years!

February and March - went to LOTS of junior high basketball games (granddaughter's)

April - took on another flea market booth (I now have two)

May - finally got my mom's mysterious rash diagnosed and cleared up, she moved in with us.

May - 18 year old granddaughter also moved in with us to stay for a month. (Then she had to find a job in order to stay here in Arkansas with us.

June - Granddaughter moved back home! LOL Mom had a stroke.

July - Mom had another stroke.

August - Still another small stroke.

September - our new grandson got here and he is a doll, of course!

October - my mom turned 86 and was holding her new greatgrandson in her arms. There were happy tears all around.

November - had the kids for a late Thanksgiving. THAT was a fiasco! (Long story and I'm not telling it here! LOL

Dec. 3- She had a major stroke and was hospitalized for 25 days.

December 24- small, quiet, nice Christmas

December 28 - got Mom home from the hospital

December 29 - She died about noon that day.

Dec. 30 - made funeral arrangements

Dec. 31 My brother's 66th birthday and we had Mom's visitation at the funeral home.

January 1, 2011 - we laid Mom to rest beside Daddy.

Here's hoping that 2011 is a brighter, happier time. Hope to spend a lot of time with my brother, my husband and my grandkids.

Boy does life really take us on different journeys.

Started 2010 taking down commercial holiday decor.

Continued family fighting over estate matters for my Great Aunt.

Decided to build our dream home on our land.

Met a con artist contractor to facilitate home build.

Fired con artist who stole our dream, building funds.

Hired a lawyer to commence civil litigation regarding home build.

Communication broke down completely with sibling (co-executor of Great Aunt's estate). Hired lawyer.

Tried to talk our best friends from Scotland out of coming to Canada with 2 daughters (they booked for July in January) due to having no home to host them in.

Had a mental health break down, tried to commit suicide. Got help - again.

DH purchased weekend trailer day before our home sale closed for us to live in on our land.

Home effects went into storage.

Worked with lawyer to build a major lawsuit.

Met more new friends (neighbours) who opened their hearts and doors to us. Helped us make a decision to fight back and stay here to fight for our 16 year dream.

Found a new contractor equivalent to 'Mike Holmes'. God sent us a miracle.

Continued fighting with family.

Continued getting help, seeing doctors.

DH went to doctor. Wore down from stress.

House build commenced, health started to improve.

Made our little trailer our home. Built flower gardens around trailer area with plants from previous garden.

Experienced horrific winds that demolished outdoor tented area (had my clothesline....). BBQ blew over, awning tore off side of trailer...felt like I was going to Oz.

Learned lifespan of plastic pail port-a-potty. Appreciated construction site toilet hut - luxury at last.

Experienced bird baths in large buckets.

Washed some clothes in large pot of boiling water.

Traveled to laundry mat every 2 weeks.

Finally got power to trailer, unhooked generator.

Got telephone line and internet in the trailer - the world returned.

Came home to KT.

6 months later, moved into new miracle home (downsized dream).

Launched major lawsuit against group of individuals for original disaster home build.

Continuing to work with lawyer for estate matters.

Said good riddance to 2010. Starting new life with new hope. Promised myself to get back onto a healthier lifestyle and to enjoy the small things in life again.

- Reconnected with some high school friends- we now are having a great time together

- Went to Georgia on vacation with a friend

- Lost my sister-in-law to an alcohol related accident at home

- Was diagnosed with hearing loss

- Had a rare visit from my brother from Victoria, and we were joined by his twin and one other brother and his daughter which made it very special

- Went to my nephew's wedding in North Carolina with my daughter

- Had a great new patio and pergola installed- LOVE IT!

- Was attacked at work, charges laid

- Became sadly aware that my father isn't functioning very well living on his own any more. Started to untangle a mess he's in- this is ongoing

- Went for an MRI three weeks ago due to my doctor's concern over my head issues (insert joke here)

- Had my father come to visit for the first time in about 25 years. Two of my brothers were able to come and spend Christmas with us as well. My father is still here, we're working on assisting him with some things, and he'll be leaving in a week or two for a little while before hopefully coming back for good

*Grammar and spelling people: In my sentence about the MRI, where should the apostrophe be in "doctor's"? Is the way I did it correct? If not, I would like to know, because I always have an insecurity about that. I would like to do it the right way.

Susan the way you did it was correct unles you had more than one doctor concerned, then it would be doctors'.

A few of the highlights:

Reached the age of 55.
Went to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a week long trip.
Attained two new levels in Toastmasters.
Saw my parents celebrate their 60th anniversary.
Married off my middle child.
Watched Bigbaby lose 50 pounds. ( Way to go!!!!)
Traveled to Galveston to celebrate Christmas with Bigbabys family. (Pictures to follow soon.)
Witnessed a 500 year flood in our corner of the state.
Helped friends of mine cope with adopting twin 2 year old girls from Russia.

Hit 19,000 photo mark on my flickr.

Visited Montana 4 times. Yes!

Lost a "daughter" when my son and she split up. :(

Got a Jeep, which was an unexpected thrill.

Got a trampoline.

Was "healthy" until I went to the doctor, who told me I have high blood pressure, borderline high cholesterol and am borderline diabetic.

Became addicted to facebook.

Met a LOT of relatives on my Dad's side that I didn't know I had through facebook.

My oldest got a job after being unemployed for over 2 years. Thank you economy

My youngest got a job after being out of school for 2 years. Thank you economy.

My mother in law moved out.

My sister moved out.

DH got glasses, which is about 12 years after Lasik.

Finally got the crown molding up in our dining room. We took what was "crown molding" down...it was actually baseboard the previous owner had put up. Dumb!

DH got a Harley.

I can't think of anything else right now...too early. LOL

Well here's what comes to mind off the top of my head.

Made it to the 38 year cancer survivor mark (in spite of a recurrence 28 years ago)

Survived DH being laid off again

Celebrated my 33rd wedding anniversary

Hit the ten year anniversary at my company and got a big unexpected raise

Had a nice vacation on the coast of South Carolina

Had two huge oak trees fall on the roof over my bedroom during a big storm while I was in bed

Made a business trip to Spain and got to have a little vacation with DH in the Costa Brava area on the Mediterranean

Got a another cat - a two year old Siamese cat from a shelter

Sent my son off to college (although, he seems to keep coming back home and is here till the 13th or so).

Hosted two exchange students.

Read very few books.

Had my house repainted.

Cut my hair short again.

Got bariatric surgery

And I forgot to add that I started watching birds in my back yard. My DH and I Iove watching them so much, we installed underground wiring for a fountain birdbath when we installed the patio.

* 4-wheeled Kebler pass, 1st time
* started baking ALL our bread, rolls & pastries from scratch(like I used to, years ago)
* stained the house, took 3 weeks & 20 gallons of stain
* in the middle of a camping trip took DH to the ER,diagnosed w/ kidney stones
* went to my first wild flower festival
* went to the Aspen Balloon festival, 1st time
* went to local balloon festival
* 4-wheeled around Crested Butte
* held my first dragon fly
* hiked around old mines in Cripple Creek
* gas dryer stopped working, got a better one
* new tires on 4x4 & mp3 player/converter
* went to Monte Vista crane festival
* photographed my first sand hill crane
* went to sand dunes
* 1st time to photograph a blue heron & watch it catch fish
* enlarged a photo to 22x28, biggest I've ever done & framed it
* Was in the 1st group of people to hike to the city resevoirs before they opened it to the public, had our picture in the newspaper for that
* went to the Kirkland Museum & Denver Arts Museum for the 1st time
