There's a clock in a stove in a house that burned in a canyon near us; the burn was 15 years ago at least and the house is gone but the clock still works .... can that have honorary mention? I don't know how old it is though.... We fight with a half propane-half -geez I dunno, kerosene? - that part is gone -- range that predates 1950 every summer. Parents' waffle iron from the 40's still works. I want it but my mother gets very offended when I ask for it. Her grandkids will be too old to enjoy waffles soon.... I have a hand-held beater from the 60's. Love that thing. It's turquoise - what more could you want? It wont work unless you wear an apron. :)

Well, here I am back again. After doing my research on the front loaders I'm just too leary of the vibration problem. I know they are in highrises but those joists and floors must have been designed especially for that situation. After all this time, I just got the new Sears catalogue that shows the Kenmore washer & dryer. The washer will fit perfectly. It's 2 cubic feet. I only saw 7 reviews on the web -- two great and 5 bad!!! But I see it as my only option unless I want to reconfigure my apartment. I'll try it, wont overload it, get a plan ... While it doesn't say in the catalogue it is a portable and so Sears wont hook it up even if I have/buy the hoses. I don't get it but I'll talk to them when I go in to look at it. The attitude these days, I guess, is take it or leave it, sometimes even in small stores.

My gosh - thanks for all the quick responses! blfenton - we aren't much of a beer/wine family, so a plain fridge fits us. mnerg - we have a keurig, about fourteen inches tall, where you remove the plastic reservoir to fill it. I'm more worried about vapor damaging the cabinet over it, but maybe it can be lined with something, or painted heavily. I am a little concerned about the appliances - heat and vapor from the dishwasher, built-in oven and coffeepot. But I don't have space to really spread them out. There's a ceiling fan in there, but no real exhaust other than the dryer vent. yestertec was interesting - thanks! They all seem to want burners- but we don't use ours as much as the toaster oven. A portable is a great idea there. The contractor was saying this will take a lot of electrical. palimpsest - Thanks! I will look into those panels. The oven cavity is about 18 inches tall, so then it depends on the insulating layers. H4042BM is the oven. It would be a lifesaver if the contractor could get this set up before they demo the real kitchen downstairs. Pretty sweet for a temp kitchen!

I had an older version of this unit, the W852 (11 lbs) I think. I loved it. It was great and perfect for my needs. It's actually made by Samsung, and I had ZERO problems with it. I loved the electronic controls. I find them LESS prone to failure than mechanical ones. I'll take them any day over mechanicals. It does look like photocopier , and there is this silly "song" it plays at the end of the wash. I chalk it up to its Korean heritage. Perhaps it's the national anthem that's being played? Samsung washers seems to be getting a bad rap on this forum, but I thought this unit was just wonderful, and without the agitator, it can hold more than the small size would suggest. I was very happy to buy this at the time, over a Haier, once I found out it was actually made by Samsung. Bottom line: it's cheap, it looks nice, and it works. For an apartment dweller, it means the difference between the laundromat and clean clothes at home. You can easily unhook it and move it out of the way when not in use. Try that with a larger unit!
