laundry not smelling fresh
Comments (9)That's why I prefer white towels. All whites or lights that do not need to be handled gently (underwear, towels, socks, kitchen towels) I use Tide with bleach/hot water. That alone should do it. If not, use liquid bleach. However, the Tide is the easiest and not quite as rough on the clothing. I use warm on any other clothing that is dark or less sturdy. Cold only on the darkest darks or gentle items. Rule of thumb, use the hottest water that your clothing can take. I'm not familiar with "Purex". For anything other than something that can take bleach, I use Cheer with colorguard. Never any problem with mildew smell. Btw, if you line dry, don't let your clothing sit in the washing machine without immediately hanging it. The longer a fabric stays wet, the more likely you can get bacterial growth. Even bleach water won't 'sterilize' clothing...but using it greatly decreases your odds of mildew. I would also say that cool weather line drying, especially if there is high humidity is going to make your clothing take much longer to dry. I never do this except for delicates. Immediately into the dryer. But if you do do it, put it outside or in an area where it will dry as quickly as possible. Never would do this in a closet. As to your Dh's towel? Wash more frequently. Again, he's got a wet towel that's just hanging around growing things....See MoreMissing the smell of fresh laundry?
Comments (6)After I stopped using softener, I used lemongrass scent-among my favorites, plus other oils too. I had it diluted w/water in small spray bottle, sprayed washcloth and put it in dryer w/my laundry. I also like cherry blossom spray on the laundry too. I spray some of my clothes w/ my EDT before I fold them and put hem in closets. I do the same for my BF. Linen sprays work good for me too. I buy them in TJ MAXX and just spray it on when folding or ironing. Now I got bounce dryer bar inside the dryer and it works very well without any buildup....See MoreLast day of vacation, laundry aisle photo for you folks
Comments (10)whirlpool_trainee, good question - I actually did not get any of the Persil liquids this time (did pick up a couple of Ariels though). I assume it's the same 75ml, since the Austrian liquids in the grocery store appeared to be the same size as the German ones in Mueller with the same number of loads, however the Austrian scent was different and to me more pleasant. So the formula might be a little different. Also picked up some Pril gel to see how that does! My family thinks I'm a little on the crazy side now. rococogurl, initially I wasn't planning to pick up any Megaperls, but the $3 price tag was too much to resist, lol. mamapinky0, I know! The first time I went I sent my husband off to a nearby coffee shop and spent at least an hour just browsing and smelling detergents and softeners! They also had a separate eco section on another floor. Laundry Mitch, if only vacation didn't have to end... But we're back home already and my next visit won't be till next summer. :( mustangs81, we actually ended up paying for an extra suitcase! Between the amazing wine, fresh olive oil and dried figs (and detergent of course) there was too much good stuff to not bring back with us....See MoreFresh smelling laundry
Comments (57)I grew up in the swish neighborhood of a small town -- no clotheslines there. I live in a Manhattan high-rise -- no clotheslines here, either. But I once visited a friend who lived out in Queens. She had been telling me about her house, garden, pool, etc. It was like visiting another world where everything was in miniature. The rooms in the house all seemed oddly smaller than expected. The yard was tiny with a postage stamp garden. The pool turned out to be one of those above ground kind, about 10 feet in diameter. But the most "foreign" thing was her clothesline. One pole was in the yard and the line went to her kitchen window. She could sit at her kitchen table and string up the clothes, then pull in into the yard! And looking across her yard I saw her neighbors' sheets and underwear. At the time, I lived in a tiny third floor studio walk up and hauled my laundry five blocks to the laundromat. By comparison, her set-up seemed rather luxe. But I still wouldn't want to see my neighbors' underwear....See Morewtfiholly
