How long do those drip system last???
Comments (7)Any drip system for shrubs and/or trees must be expanded through the years so that it covers the additional root zone which has developed. In other words, let's say you started with two drippers per bush. The following year you may need three. In addition, the drippers may now need to be placed farther from the trunk. And/or perhaps one can change the dripper output. Let's say you started with 1 gpm drippers; you might replace some/all with 2 gpm. Beyond that, all drip systems need periodic inspections to ensure that all drippers are functioning....See Moreneed advise about those long pods?
Comments (2)Actually, I was surprised when we moved here that Chicagoans like trumpet vine so much. Where I lived south of here in Tennessee and Virginia, they are just about as common as herring. And like Kaiser Wilhelm said about herring: people would think they were a delicacy, if they weren't so plentiful! I think trumpet vine must not be as at home here as elsewhere, or it truly would be everywhere, from what I remember. And it's really not, from what I've seen. Plus, people like it and try to grow it. My mom was always having to cut it off her trellis in Tennessee. She viewed it as a weed there. Don't get me wrong: I love the color of the flowers and leaves and the form of it. I like that it attracts hummingbirds. I think it's a nice plant....See MoreLove those Gallicas (long)
Comments (17)decobug, the plants are still pretty young, so I can't say a lot about what the final sizes/shapes will be. And Ombre Parfaite is grafted, while the others are own root. The main difference so far is that Ombre Parfaite is covered with powdery mildew, while the others are completely clean. I'll have to see if it grows out of it. greenhaven--only one more acre?...See MoreAnother way to stretch those food dollars... Long Post
Comments (7)We get this food every month. This is not only for people who are poor or 'on relief'. My inlaws get it as it is easier than going to the store weekly for them. They get 1 or 2 regular boxes a month and that holds them pretty well. They live in NJ and this way if there is a storm and they can't get out, they have food in the house. There are a few things that we don't eat,( like the dried black beans) but they get donated to the food bank locally. They have a chicken fajita meat that I couldn't figure out how to prepare. Let me tell you, it makes the best chicken salad ever. Seasoned just right. The fruit and vegetable box is a real bargain for the price they charge. You get a nice selection of fruits. I purchase 2 regular boxes and a fruit and vegetable box nd a meat special every month. this really helps spread out our food dollars. I can plan our months meals around this order of food and know exactly what I have on hand. The substitutions we have gotten were never 'bad'. For example, this month they substituted cereal for the peanut butter you were supposed to get. Once we got spinich instead of green beans. All in all to feed our family of three, this really is helpful. My son jokes that we have steak an alful lot now....See Moremrsmarv
