What I don't like about my Keurig coffee maker

Is that you have to wait 3 minutes for it to brew!

But on the GOOD side, fresh coffee every morning. One cupper person here.

Oh, that's just too much.

I would write the company and complain, for sure.

Three minutes? It takes longer than that for my "instant" coffee.

Hi Plllog! "That is, I know it's possible, but might not be in your budget." See, there's the crux of it. This little beverage center idea of mine was not in the original budget. (Nor, alas, were new drywall in the livingroom and halls, the gorgeous walnut top on my used cabinet island, the matching gorgeous top that will soon be on the new media cabinet and the near full gut of the bathroom.) And we're still determined to get through remodeling our ugly duckling without taking out a loan or dipping into savings. Conventional wisdom says: Wait until the coffers are full again but that's so hard to do. First off, I'm a cheapskate. Even if the goose who laid the golden egg waddled up onto my deck and built a nest, I'm not sure I would willingly pay someone to mess up the walls I just paid to fix. Second, I'm not quite cheap enough. My new kitchen is starting to look pretty good but, gosh, it would look so much better if the microwave and coffee maker didn't take up so much room on that one counter. I'm willing to spend a little bit more to change that, especially since I'm going to have a piece of countertop leftover that should be just the right size. Still, it's nice to know that it's possible. Maybe when the coffers ARE full again I'll put a tile counter outside on my deck to shade the golden goose should she happen to wander by ;) Thanks for your help!

When we lived in the Netherlands we were introduced to the Senseo coffee makers and got hooked. My brother has a Keurig. I like the Senseo better because you can brew a double cup if you want and it is enough to fill a commuter mug. We can make a fresh cup of coffee, small or large/caf or decaf, whenever we want. It's just the 2 of us most of the time and we were constantly tossing out half of a carafe of coffee from a standard coffee maker each day. We bought ours from Amazon. I ordered Senseo decaf pods from Amazon, as well, but have a very large stash of Perla dark roast pods that I bought before we moved back to the States. I would recommend the model with the large water reservoir because it's easier when you have company. seagrass

I think the largest one with a reservoir holds about 60 ounces of water and you have choices of 5 different size cups; mine holds 48 ounces and I have a choice of 3 cup sizes. Even when I have to refill the tank it does heat up quickly again. Mine is the Sam's club version (B66) of the B60 - the difference is that it comes with a large assortment of K-cups. All my friends and I adore the coffee from The Coffee People, Donut Shop, medium roast decaf. Everyone who has tasted it has commented on how good it tastes - not bitter and not too strong. We've also become tea drinkers witih the English Breakfast Tea (non-decaf). My husband was very skeptical of using the machine regularly. However, he loves the Ghiradelli hot chocolate - comes in packets, not K-cups. Don't forget you can also use the Keurig to dispense hot water for hot chocolate, cereals or tea bags as well. Helene

I personally won't pay for those overpriced pods and capsules. Most important thing is freshness of the beans and a good grinder. Currently using either a French Press, Moka Pot, Clever coffee dripper or Thermavorm drip when we need more quantity. Mazzer Mini grinder was the best investment I've made. We do have a lever actuated plumbed in espresso machine (Fiorenzata Bricoletta), which we loved, but I've given up with it's endless repairs (gaskets, descaling, pump, stats, etc.)

Three minutes? It takes our old toaster over that long to toast! Longer, actually.

I think a single-cup coffee maker would soon prove too expensive for us. How much does each cup cost?

I personally would not have bought one for myself. It is expensive. I just bought 18 cups French Vanilla at BBB for $9.88 and got 20 percent off that.

I wanted a K basket but they were sold out.

Gal shopping for coffee as well, told me she gets, at Costco, Keurig coffee 80 cups for $30. I don't belong to Costco.

Glenda, I think we saw the little basket or whatever they call it, for your Keurig pot, to use your own coffee, at Walmart the other day. They were about $15, if I remember correctly, but at the price of the single use, it would be worth it. That is, if you want to go to Walmart anymore!

Three minutes per cup ...

... and you have to be out the door on the way to work in 4.5 minutes, right?

Buying at BBB - that's "Better Busines Bureau", is it? Or "Beastly Bankrupt Bankers"? Or "Bed, Bath ... and Breadline"?

For a mug of home-built coffee - 37.5 cents ... or 47.8 cents, etc. is too rich for my blood.

My kids were quite surprised a couple of years ago when Dad sprung for a cappucino.

I got a little over 2 lbs. can of the "Good to the last drop" kind a while ago ... for under $5.00, I think.

When I opened it, I put it into half a dozen, about 1 lb. jam jars and put the ones that I wasn't using into the freezer - four of 'em still there.

I goofed a few years ago - bought about a 4 - 5 cup maker with permanent strainer for about $8.00 at X S Cargo in Edmonton when son and I were up there for nephew's wedding. X S Cargo have low-priced stuff, quite a portion of it refurbished.

Within a month I turned it on, then went to add water ...

... and before I got the water going through into the carafe on the heater ...

... I heard a high-pitched "pinggg" ...

... and didn't even need to look at the carafe to know what had happened!

Drat!

Hard to "refurbish" a cracked coffee carafe!

You win a few - you lose a few!

Glenda, My daughter gets hers at Sam's. Check their prices when you get a chance. They love theirs. With a large coffee pot they ended wasting alot. Now everyone can get the flavor they want and no wasting. She even keeps chai tea for my son when he visits. My son in law first tried one at his Dr.s office and fell in love with it. Got one for his birthday in October.

Well, I made a second cup out of the used K cup, and it was ok, but a little watered down.

Just bought a 23 oz. can of Melita Columbian coffee for $8.49. That will last over a month. DH drinks two cups in the morning; I drink one. The paper filters are about two cents each. So...that's 10 - 11 cents a cup, kept warm in the coffemaker thermos.

Ed -- Did you forget to heat the carafe/thermos with hot water before adding coffee?

I don't drink all that much coffee anymore and I have one of those little 4 cup percolators....cheap and it makes really two good sized cups...It makes really hot coffee and it is just enough for the two of us and much cheaper than pods of coffee and better tasting I think. I love coffee and am particular about what I drink and was actually very surprised that this little small Mr. Coffee makes such a good cup...
