If you format your card now, all your pictures will be gone. Pull it out, and try again. Sometimes those machines don't read the cards right.

Yep don't format it!
I had trouble with my camera once....blamed it on DH since he'd taken it and used it to take several pics. He was messing with it when I complained he did something. Question popped up and he clicked yes and I lost some beautiful pics of a Father's Day outing with us and DS and Maddie. I was SO upset. If nothing else take it to Walmart or another place and try it in the machine.

I'll take it to Walmart tomorrow then and see if it will work there. Once I get the pictures printed off, then I can delete them and then format? Why would it work fine in the camera, but not on the computer?

try loading the pics to your puter...put them in a folder then loading to walmart from there...don't know if that'll work but it's an idea...

Copy pictures on CD, take CD to Wal-mart.
After pictures saved on CD or your computer,you may want to format your card.
My camera (and PC for that matter) ask to format NEW media before first writing on it.
That way you could use it on different computers, WM machines, cameras. HTH

Oh yeah, I forgot. He/she also told me to wipe the ends of the batteries off with a cloth before putting them back in. Don't know why, but it must have helped.

I can't copy the pictures to cd because they won't come up anywhere on my computer. My computer isn't 'reading' the card at all. The card seemed to be working okay while in the camera. I took lots of pictures at a party yesterday.

I think it has to do with the size of the card. This is a card that holds a lot of pictures... never had a problem with my smaller xd cards. Could be a computer problem... I just bought a new card because the old one was getting an error (that one had been used since I bought this camera though...so about 5 years maybe?). How long do the xd cards last?

Lydia, are you sure you have pictures on the card? Can you view them on your camera?

Can you move them to the internal memory, and then copy to the puter?

Just for the H*** of it try schoolhouses' suggestion. Can't hurt and just might help.

DO NOT FORMAT unless you are ready to wipe the card of any data. Also, format the card only while in your camera, e.g., let your camera do the formatting. A number of camera makers do special formats bsead on their own system. Usually, it means it reserves some space at the beginning of the file to record settings and time/date (file header). The photo content, if recorded in a standard format such as jpg will be the same as any other jpg format written by other equipment.

If you format a card in other equipment, it may not be recognized by your camera and will ask if you wish to format it. That may be waht happened at Walgreens: Your card had a special file structure that was not recognized by Walgreens equipment, i.e., it wasn't smart enough to search the file for the begining of the picture content, or the photo was recorded using a technique not recognized the the machine. For example, if the card was written by a Kodak camera using their pciture format, pcn, it may not have been recognizable by the Walgreen photo machine.

What to do: Find out what types of media the Walgreen machine can accept (CD, USB thumb drive) and which photo formats it can read (jpg, tiff, raw, etc.) Transfer the photos from your camera to a computer files such as hard disk, data CD, USB thumb drive, etc., and then take a copy on a CD, USB drive, etc to Walgreens for printing.

Again, do not format your data media in the Walgreens machine. Do all your formating back at home.

One caution: If you format a card in the camera, make sure its cells are charged or use an external power supply if you have one. Running out of power while formatting is a bad thing.

Here is another one. I have a Kodak cd33 easyshare camera. I have the program installed on my computer and never had a problem. My kids got me a new camera for Christmas. It is a Kodak m893 IS (easy share), but I cannot load this program on my computer. I think it is because I am using an old version
of windows. Do you think I can use the older version of easyshare without worrying about reformatting my camera card?

Lydia - it could be the size of the card!

I have used 2GB cards fine, but when I went to a 4GB card - my computer would not read it. I think it is due to the type of file system on my hard drive. My computer is older.

I could, however, plug a cord into the camera, plug that into the compter and it read fine. I could not read the card when it was out of the computer no matter what card reader I tried.

The card also worked fine in the photo machine at WalMart.

This is a good reason why one should NOT use the camera or the card as a permanent photo storage device. The cards can go bad. Download to your computer? We all know that hard disks can (and do) crash with data unrecoverable. How about burning a disk? Better still, but for long term storage, what about all the machines that no longer read disks? Or in 5 years, will your disk be okay still be readable?

For photos that you really really treasure, load them onto an offsite photo website, and print out copies for albums. "Father's Day 2009" or "Hawaii 2010" or "Jenna's wedding".

But don't use your photo cards for long term storage!

tralynn I also have/had a Kodak camera. I never used the easy share software. I would plug my cord in, and use windows explorer to pull my pictures off my camera. You might try that?
