Lowe's says Frigidaire stackable separates won't work in closet

So I bought the FL Frigidaire LTF530FS washer and matching dryer last week to be installed in a 2nd floor closet where an old broken Whirlpool stacking set (1 piece) now sits. These 2 separates connect together by a bracket in the back so the dryer doesn't fall off the washer. When Lowe's got to the house to install them, they said this type of washer/dryer requires access behind them to be able to connect them together, and that it wouldn't work. It's not a size issue, it's just that they say they need access behind/on the side once it's in place to connect them. They say the only kind that will work in the closet is the 1 piece type which I was hoping to upgrade from.

This makes no sense to me. Why can't they hook them together outside of the closet and then just push it in like the 1 piece units? Seems like the same concept to me, or am I missing something?
