You don't mention bosch model, but the nexxt series don't stack, the axxis series does.... I think it sounds like you have a space constraint that would eliminate the whirlpool, lg, and smasung machines (at leat the ones that seem to be the 'popular' models... I'm thinking you've got Frigidaire, Axxis, Asko, Miele, and maybe a sears model to look at... fwiw... my fil had a frigidaire stacked set for literally years... he died before they did, and now the nephew has them...still going strong... I have a bosch, but it's a nexxt... I think the bosch or the asko would be the way to go... personally I think the Miele is way over priced and not worth the extra cash..

Michelle, I just used the wrong terminology. When I stated washer/dryer combo, I just meant I wanted both appliances. I want them to match and debated between pedestals or just making a platform. Decided on the pedestals in case I really don't like the height. My laundry shute is in a cabinet over the washer and I am wondering if that is going to be an issue. So what loads do you use the steam cycle? Since I've got both a clothes steamer and a house clean steamer, I can't see how it actually will do anything unless the clothing is pointed directly at the steam port. Can it really do more than the sanitize wash cycle? The LG's are gorgeous machines and my neighbor has a set in her upstairs laundry room. She said they are quieter than the Whirlpools she has downstairs. (She has also went thru two Neptunes.) Her only issue is she has had them leak and doesn't know if it's from too much soap or too many clothes. Repair man found no problem with them. But she seems to be very happy with them.

A few months ago, I was in your shoes. My washer and dryer had served me well, but they were at the point they had to replaced. Like you, I researched frontloading washers and was concerned about the mold/mildew issue, as well as the problem I would have using one because I have problems with my back. The pedestals would raise them higher, but they add even more expense. After much research, here and at consumer research sites, I bought a Maytag Bravos MTW6700 (Maytags are now made by Whirlpool). It's an Energy Star top loader with the HE advantage - no agitator, huge capacity (4.6 cu ft), very efficient when it comes to water and electricity. I've not had any problem at all with mold, mildew, or vibration. I do leave the top open after I've put wet laundry into the dryer; it's only shut when clothes are washing. Because my washer is a top loader, it can go on either side of the dryer with no problem. ALL my experiences thus far with this washer have been excellent - far beyond good. There haven't been any cons to this point. The settings are very easy to use. I like it that I can choose water temp, spin speed, everything. It's unbelievably quiet, even when spinning. The detergent, bleach, and fabric softener dispensers make washing laundry easy and fast. When I wash towels, I use vinegar in the f/s dispenser, which helps to keep the towels soft and fluffy (there's no residual odor), as well as cleaning out the dispenser, too. I can wash many more clothes or laundry items per load in this washer than in the traditional top loader I had, which had the largest capacity on the market at the time I bought it. I have washed king-size comforters in my washer with no problem. Whereas I used to wash at least one, often two, loads a day, now I'm washing less than half that many loads each week because I can wash so many things at once. This washer gets my laundry much cleaner than any other washer I've ever owned, and it is gentle, even with the fast spin. When I wash sheets, they do not tangle at all as they used to do in my old washer w/agitator, and they dry much smoother, too. I haven't had any problem with my clothes wrinkling. I do get them out of the dryer when the chime sounds (it has a LO or HI or OFF setting) and immediately fold or hang them. I don't use regular laundry detergent, for I've read the sudsing can cause damage to HE machines, as well as invalidate a warranty. I read an article which compared using regular laundry detergent in an HE washer to using regular dish detergent in a dishwasher. I have used liquid Tide HE w/ bleach for whites and towels (now have bought Sears HE Oxi-Clean formula powdered detergent) and Sears HE Ultra Stain-Fighter powdered detergent (both very inexpensive) for everything else except dress clothes and delicates. I use liquid Cheer HE ColorGuard for nice dark clothes, and Woolite HE for delicates and light dress clothes. ALL of these detergents clean very well in my washer. I also really like the matching dryer (the MED6400 model), as it has better features than my old one - the most important feature seems to be sensors, so that the laundry doesn't overdry. Because the washer spins the laundry so much better, the dryer dries them in much less time than my old dryer did. Any well-made 7 cu ft dryer w/sensors should do well. If my research is correct, the control board is part number 6871ER1003E. Google search finds a seller on Amazon.com (if legitimate) that has a small supply of them. There are also two board repair services that may (or may not) handle them. Neither one lists the board by number but both of them may handle boards that they don't list.
