Should I Rawr Lowes or Electrolux?

So after waiting *three weeks* for the Turquoise Wave Touch washer and dryer from Lowes, we were called by the delivery guys and told there was some "damage". Since I'm desperate for a W/D, we opted to see the damage -- a substantial dent in the side of the dryer, and a washer that took a strong enough hit to bend the frame along the top.

Since we were going to stack them, they had to go back, even if I was willing to deal with the high odds that something internal was broken.

Here's the deal -- Lowes couldn't tell us why it took three weeks to get them in the first place and, three hours later, and still trying to figure that out. They seem to think it's Electrolux.

Sears has the washer and the steam dryer (which I didn't want) in stock, but would require another week to get the normal dryer.

Ye Olde Local Appliance story doesn't seem to have them in stock, either. What gives? Does Electrolux just not want to sell these solid gold washers? For all their ads, no one seems to own them, they don't go on sale, and they seem impossible to acquire. Or is it just bad luck and my desire for the fancy color?

Argh! I can't live without a washer for another three weeks! We got a good deal from Lowes (for the Electrolux) but this is beginning to seem not worth it. I really like the size and the feature set, but this is beginning to look like a sign from God to just find something else. We'll see what the salesguy finds out -- assuming he calls back -- but I just don't know what to do if he says three weeks.

I guess I would wait a week for the dryer you want or maybe go with a second color choice.
Do they have any colors in stock that have the model you want in a color that's livable/acceptable?
I sucks when you can't get what you want in a timely manner.
I want what your getting but in Island White.
I hope it all works out for you. Keep us posted please.

What is "Rawr"?

It took two weeks to get my Electrolux wall oven from Best Buy. They said because it was coming from the factory warehouse. I assumed it was because I wanted black. But it sounds like possibly that they don't send them out until they are actually purchased.

I do feel your pain of not having a washer and dryer. But you will have this set for at least ten years. If it is another three weeks can you change to a different brand that they have in stock? If you change will you be kicking yourself?

I do love my new Electrolux oven, but the washer/dryer I'm getting next week is a Samsung. The deal was too great even with the extraordinary long wait time. In my case they obviously took the orders then made the appliances. Luckily my old set is still running.

OK, a little followup here in case anyone's interested. After calming down a bit I realized the advice above to just find an independent repairer and ask their opinion was the way to go. It took 3 minutes on yelp to find an ideal-seeming guy. I loved him - ironically his repair shop for vacuum cleaners is about the dirtiest place I've been, stuffed with literally hundreds of refurbished vacuums. He has a huge bench of tools and broken down motors. And he's incredibly nice. He sold me a replacement wand, what had started all of this, for $6. Not $30 like electrolux wanted. He listened to the motor and said it sounded just fine. He told me he'd be happy to clean the thing, but in his opinion it wasn't necessary. He sold me filters. He ordered a hose to replace my long-broken one - expensive, but still 60% the cost of electrolux's. And that's it. He pointed out the reason the machine was smelling badly, a major complaint of the saleslady, was because the bag needed changing "blush>. Dodged that bullet! I can hardly believe I countenanced this lady's bs for even a moment. But I did, I tried hard to be polite to this woman in my house, entertaining the notion that maybe it was true I was such a bad vacuum owner I needed to just atone with a whole new machine; I actually did try to envision spending $1100 on a product I had done zero research on. *I* was thinking this?! It is absolutely amazing what a salesman in your own home can get you to think. It wasn't really until she started misbehaving after I warned her I was not prepared to write a $1100 check then and there that the current was broken and I started to think logically again. I think I've crossed the age divide into foolishness and can no longer be trusted to have any salesman inside of my home for any reason whatsoever. This is a slippery slope, electrolux today, Maddoff tomorrow. I got increasingly astonished at my behaviour and the way all of this transpired driving home, so decided to call electrolux HQ to complain. In the process the lady tried to explain to me a situation that I still just do not understand. Apparently electrolux was sold 12 years ago to a company now called "Aerus". But -- and this is what I just don't understand -- the Swedish company bought the rights to use the name "electrolux". So when I call electrolux what company is coming to visit me? I guess it's really Aerus and they aren't selling me (or trying to) an Electrolux Ambassador, because now another company sells that??? Huh?! What they sell looks just like it, but is called a "classic"... I just couldn't get this straight and since it didn't particularly matter, just let it drop. But I think the bottom line is, the company toward which I felt such loyalty either is no more or has changed names ... only maybe it hasn't. Geesh. At least I will have a fine-functioning machine next week upon hose-replacement. Shoulda done this years ago. I deleted Electrolux's phone number from my phone. So there. Thanks, all. Both Wolf and Electrolux have issues with the blue porcelain. And its a really big oops on the Wolf. Electrolux seems to have resolved their issues with blue porcelain as there are not any complaints from recent ovens. Wolf still has ongoing issues, but the repair will now be easier with the bottom as a separate piece. Search blue porcelain in this forum to read about this. Looking at cubic feet or even the depth and width of the oven can be misleading. In looking at oven size, measure the rack to see what the usable space would be and then see how your pans will fit. Look at how the convection fan takes up space in the oven. Some have the fan sticking out into the oven cavity, which might allow for a handle of a pan to hang over a rack edge. Others place a wall across the front of the fan so they can say the back of the oven is flat. Some examples Wolf Electrolux The new Wolf ovens seem to be blue. Different fans! Wolf M series illustration Wolf M series photo Also look at where the racks are and how they can be used. On Elux, at least mine, the rolling rack cannot be put on the lowest position. The regular rack can be placed there. The best feature of the Wolf is the dual fans/elements. I think that is more significant in the 36 inch width though. Whatever you buy, get the longest extended warranty you can get.

Thanks for the useful, thoughtful points, ladies and gentlemen. Upon further thinking, i think this might be the best solution: - Warm/Warm and press the Eco Friendly button. Reason: this reduces the normal "Warm" temperature, and will be, between cold and warm. this, in theory, in this frigid winter weather with freezing cold "cold water from the tap/outside", should result in a barely warm water, right? This would ensure both a "Barely warm wash cycle, and then a Barely Warm rinse cycle", ensuring a thorough rinsing of detergent. Furthermore, when Warm/Warm (with Eco Friendly selected) is done, I think I ought to do one more Rinse Only cycle, with extra spin, at "High" speed spin. This would ensure that detergent would be thoroughly out, and that water would be centrifuged out. Any comments please? Advice? How should I fold my natural wool fleece mattress pad when putting it inside? Only one person has made a suggest thus far, and he suggests that i fold all the wool fleece INWARDS. My fear is that detergent might get in and not get out! Thx in advance.

Yeah, what is "Rawr"?

You may indeed kick yourself by not waiting. I do know the pain of being without washer/dryer. Sort of on a smaller scale of being without power. Oh, and housefairy, what makes you think she will have these ten years?

Mark the ten years is just one of the numbers that they throw out for life expectancy of washers. Some quote 7-13. Hey, how are they going to get you to pay big bucks if the item is only going to last a few years! LOL

Since she's paying over 2K for this set, without pedestals, I'm sure she's hoping for some longevity.

Sorry -- "Rawr" is kind of a net-slangy "roar". As in, with whom should I get on the phone and yell, "Rawr! What you idiots doing?!"

And I hope I'm not double posting -- the post I thought I did yesterday doesn't seem to be here, but I was really tired, so who knows *what* I did ;-)

After playing phone tag all afternoon, the Lowes' guy seems to think that 1) the three week problem was because they were back ordered and 2) that they *should* be able to get one in another week.

But they couldn't order a new one till the old one got back, and then it was too late, and the sales guy doesn't get in until 11:30 today . . .

But DH is convinced that they'll get it ordered and get it in a week and wants to stick with the original plan. I'm expecting to hear, "Oh, well you know it's Friday, and we missed some deadline, and, and . . ."

And I now have six houseguests, in addition to the four of us, with a nine year old Bosch that barely works and wasn't big enough for the four of us. We're going to try hooking it back up and hope the case didn't crack any worse and that we can get the dryer to run again.

I swear -- it's no wonder there are no reviews of these, they're impossible to get! You'd think they were hand carved by Tibetan monks and trucked through the mountains by caravan . . .
